    Hi,
not sure if its just me or not, but is it normal to dream that you are fishing when asleep?
Happens quite a bit with me-maybe I need to get out fishing more when I am awake 🙂

Wait till you drop your brand new rod and reel overboard, almost like your hand did it deliberately.
Then you watch the bloke in the boat across they way dive down to retrieve it and keep it for himself.
When he takes off you get into a high speed chase through the bay that believe it or not is full of high rise buildings, as if Brisbane was Venice, to try and catch this bloke but he just disappears.

Wake up all sweaty and cranky.
Go out to shed and make sure your baby is still in the rod rack.

    Yep.... Completely normal. 🤣

Hey guys. Decided to walk down the road from home yesterday during a spell in the weather. Not really knowing the area I had a quick scout around over a shallow sandbank looking for any signs of bait. Instantly I found a massive school of hardiheads, which were clearly being harassed by something below as they were skittering everywhere . I tied on a frost white 60mm double clutch on my millerod grubfreak and daiwa exist 2004, and  for the next hour or so it was nearly a fish a cast. Mainly just flathead around the 50-60cm mark, and a few bream. Towards the end of the session I tied on a MMD splash prawn and caught a few average bream on it too. Was a nice way to spend an hour, and a great way to open my account in my new home Brisbane .

    G’day @Newbie to Brisbane
Welcome to the forum. You will be able to find heaps of information on Brisbane River Fishing by using the search function in the top of the screen. There is also countless YouTube Videos you can browse through on Brisbane River Fishing 👍.
Seeing as though you like lures, there is a couple ways that people get the rivers fish species (threadfin, jewfish, occasionally snapper).
One method is soft vibes. I am no master on this, but from what I’ve gathered, find the fish on your sounder, and then jug it down in front of them.
The second major method is getting fish off the surface. I have been trying this desperately for a while to no avail, but basically.
Lights in structure attract bait. Bait will attract threadfin salmon and jewfish. Then, fish your lure on a lightly weighted rig if it’s a plastic, or a shallow diver (though lots of lures work apparently). With a side scan sounder and electric motor you will probably find it easy to locate fish (and you will be able to see them eating bait off the surface too).
I use about a 15lb line with 30lb leader, as threadies have abrasive mouths. If using soft vibes, you may want to use up to 30lb mainline.
You will be able to try spots like the Port of Brisbane, Gateway Bridge, Dutton Park Area, Riverhills Area, and even the Jindalee area are places people have success at. I would be happy to decky one day. It would give me a break from paddling everywhere. Lol.
    Cheers Hamish

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. As you say, it all depends on what we want to do. Since I dont think we will go off the beaten track I'll probably consider something like this with maybe a small vehicle (Suzuki) towed behind for day trips/shopping.

I imagine that plenty of people do the lap and then want to sell the vehicle after so there should be something suitable on the market when we are ready to go.

    Hi TimRen,
I'm not a crazy greenie, but I also wonder if quality of life for a fish is more than just if it looks healthy and well fed. eg some need to school to feel secure and maybe cod need snags to feel at home, or have minimum exercise needs. I know fish aren't credited with great intelligence -except for those wily urban bream, but lack of stimulation may be a problem.
l It may be worth while looking for regulations that cover the commercial public display of native fish.
Although fish are not covered in the first link, it may be worth enquiring with them they may be able to direct you to the right place. Alternatively just contact Vic Dept of Agriculture or Vic Fisheries Authority.

When washers failed my easy fix was to place the mouth of the pump on an old thong and push/twist to cut a replacement. Just like cutting scones from dough. Just needed to make a hole in the new rubber for the shaft. Worked just fine. I haven't used a pump for decades now- prolapsed discs didn't like it

Everyone has different needs and requirements when doing the great Lap, my wife and I are thinking of spending several years at least.  Australia is a very, very big place even just to do the circumference and then you have all the interior to visit as well, I suppose it all depends on what you are interested in seeing and doing.  As for the Campervan idea, it will be easier to tow around, however you only will have a finite amount of space to live in and also carry all your stuff, plus it will take you some time to setup and pull down every time you stop, it will also get very hot and cold in it, as you will not have aircon/heater, not to mention noisy as well as there is no insulation on the sides/roof when staying in crowded caravan parks. You won't be able to just pull up somewhere to have a cuppa, a meal or even just to rest without setting it up and then to pull it all up when time to continue. Plus staying inside when it is storming outside will not be fun.
A Motor home for me  will be a problem for the reasons you mentioned regarding shopping for groceries and parking, if you are staying in a caravan park then you will have to take the lot every time you want to go sight seeing or visit a place, advantage is when you do want to stop on the side of the road for a cuppa, meal or rest  you can just climb into the back and everything is ready from the moment you step in. You need to be aware  that a tall heavy motorhome will not be able to go to the same places a 4WD can if you intend to do a lot of side trips, as I don't think that they are designed for a lot of off road and tight, beaten up  tracks.
A caravan for my wife and me  would suit us better as we should be able to take most of the stuff we need over an extended period, it will be insulated, so comfortable in the heat and cold, we can unhitch when we want to do side trips, and the 4WD we are towing it with will enable us to go pretty much everywhere we want.  The caravan would not be as manoeuvrable as a motor home or campervan, and you have to go back and pick it up again if you went on a side trip  and when time to do another section, they have good sound deadening, most of the comforts of home, TV, lounge, fridge/freezer, cooking facilities, washing machine and reasonable amount of storage, aircon/heater, shower and toilet so most of the creature comforts. Plus you can carry a decent amount of water with you subject to your load limits(caravan and tow vehicle). You won't be able to take a tinny with you unless you have a dual cab with  good rack support from the back and over the cabin but also subject to load limits.
These are just my thoughts and everyone will have different requirements,  so a 6-12 months trip may suit some, but some people won't enjoy the constant changes and driving whilst towing something big, but there is only one way to find out if suits you. If it doesn't, you can always shorten it,  or lengthen the trip if you like the lifestyle.

I have project managed all my renos so I am not too much help except. My sister had a builder/designer do her reno's. They planned it down to the tiles and paint colour before the project started. She wasn't aloud to visit the building site until it was all finished and despite her worrying it worked our really well.
So yes if you go off the plan or have it fully ironed out and trust the builder its a great way to do it.
