Jono4500 got a reaction from AFO in First solo overnighter to fraser
    Hi all
Wanted to share a bit about my first solo overnight fraser trip. Decided against the kayak, as was sure I'd make it over but unsure about getting back on Saturday if forecasted winds picked up. Not wanting to waste my opportunity, day booked off work and site booked, I walked on the barge and jumped off at hook point. What a slog, carting my 50ish kg of gear about 3km up the beach to coolooloi creek through the sand. Was worth it once I was there though. Set up camp, cast net some live bait and the fun began. Mackerel came through periodically, caught a few schoolies touch under size, then could see the tuna jumping after them. After a thousand casts with slugs and poppers could not tempt them though. Numerous big runs and bust ups, all from shore, had me thinking the remnants from the old jetty were causing me grief. Was hoping for squid for dinner, settled on crumbed bream. After a quiet beer and a good night's sleep had a quiet few hours early morning soaking bait then packed up camp to head home. Whilst walking back to barge realised I couldve comfortably kayaked it. All in all, an awesome day and a bit, and I'm already planning the next 1! Definatley taking the kayak!

It's a shame your not supposed eat them. I had a south African bloke at npd telling me they were farmed over there and a sought after catch. Good fun on my light bass gear.

I like the find the fish before the birds. See which way there are swimming then drive upwind current and have the sun in a way so it doesnt blind the fish. Then cut the outboard and wait for a bit then place a cast at the leading fish and retrieve as fast as you can aslong as the lure stays in the water. If you place a perfect cast you should get a eat as soon as it hits the water

it is a bit. it is the worlds second most farmed fish due to their great nutritional content. However the damage they are capable of in Australia far out weighs the nutritional benefits. If we allow them to be eaten, more people will ant to farm them and stock them which would have a disastrous impact on our local fish species

wicked fun to catch though, easy to target and pull hard on light gear. used to catch 50-100 at a time at Pine rivers park years ago, we even had a social there with this forum

Landed 3 mack tuna one spotty 1 longtail.
Had a big golden trevally eaten next to the boat by a big shark.
    Same with a few mackeral.
Lost about $200 worth of lures
Alot of fun on the 3000 stradic nice to be back on the water after selling our renegade 490 6 months ago.
Highly recommend cost  $380 that inlcuded a minn kota with spot lock and fuel. You literally just hop on and off boat gets washed launched and cleaned for you

Pulled a few pots and high tailed it down the dam to the fishing grounds before it got crowded. Bass were thick and quickly got the numbers up to 44 before they stopped biting and totally disappeared.Trolled around a bit looking for them, found several schools but not hungry.Finaly got my numbers up to 48 and as it was getting hot I headed home to the air con.
When I got home I  was reminded that we had been married for 55 years, I said yeah I remembered it.😜
Spoke to Ray late yesterday he was OK and doing well, said he had a nice female nurse helping him have a shower,I am booking in to that hospital for my next op. I had a male nurse offer to help me last time and he was a little suspect.

I quite often do an overnighter on my kayak (hobie outback, 180kg capacity). I have no trouble getting a minimal camping kit in the hull with fishing gear and esky. Still come in well under the max weight even with all my pie, kfc and bourbon weight added in.  hiking camping gear is great for this, compact and lightweight and there’s actually a surprising amount of space inside the hull.

I have towed a second kayak from time to time - sometimes with crab pots on it and sometimes with my partner when she gets bored with paddling. The drag isn’t a huge issue when it’s light but if you load it up it really slows you down - especially into the current.

    Hi all
1st post on this site, most of my fishing chasing bass at npd, hoping to get some tips locating schools with sounder. Also started doing trips from inskip to fraser on kayak and keen to do some overnighters. Anyone done similar trips or offer any pointers for multiday kayak trips?

Shrimp pots full and so was bass bay, started off with 2 rods catching bass and had to drop down to one rod, they were that thick. When they slowed down I tried the edges but not to much luck so I went back to the school that produced early. Managed 82 all up.

    Welcome Jono.
I believe Dino also does very good in Kurwongbah on a yak, and Ray and Dino both do great in NPD!
Welcome to the forum. I do a bit of yakking with Dad - haven't done a real overnighter yet. Sounds like heaps of fun though.
    Cheers Hamish
