benno573 got a reaction from Bretto77 in Best mission point camp spot?
hey mate. i parked near the boat ramp but not in the car park area. i put it on the street in a "reasonable" looking area under a street light and it was all still there when i got back.

hey mate,
have done this trip myself on the yak. we were in one of the spots closest to the i guess south eastern / bridge end and they were fine. Just dirt sites but shady and the one we were in had a picnic table as well which was super handy given camp chairs on a kayak are difficult. Would recommend mozzie coils as a must and plenty of 40% deet. Try and arrive at higher tide for ease of unload as there is a bit of mud on a low tide.
take plenty of drinking water as none available. there is a cold shower which was ok, other than cold.

by the time I had the pie with a big serve of peas for lunch, then the custard slice for afternoon tea, when my daughter came around with cream cake for the wifes birthday, I nearly lost the lot at the table, but like a trooper I had a piece.

benno573 got a reaction from MattInOz in adding cleats?
generally speaking, the handrails will suffice in most cases. tying up to a jetty or pylon doesn't take a lot of holding force. it would only be if you were trying to tow another boat or similar that you could run into dramas. if you go down the path of mounting cleats, large backing plate, big washers and heaps of sikaflex or similar between the alum and stainless to stop electrolysis.

there's not a lot of snorkelling spots in and around the jacobs well area unfortunately.
if you head south to around the gold coast seaway there is some great spots around the rock walls at the south western corner of south straddie, however, current can be a real problem here. about 1hr before high tide is when to start and finish not long after the change. make sure you run a dive flag on your vessel as well. there is plenty of boat traffic in the channels - the snorkelling is outside the channels and quite shallow but that unfortunately doesn't seem to worry the jetski lice sometimes.
