I recently got back from a forgettable boating venture to the southern part of Bribie island in the passage where we encountered head on 28-32 knot SE winds on the way back to the ramp. Also the wind and run-out tide were in opposing directions. Very choppy!
Took the best part of an hour to get back and all on board got suitably soaked - I have a 4.3m stessco side console. Great to test the boat in those conditions but don’t need to do it again! Plenty of spray came overboard.
Anyway, once home, I cleaned the boat as usual and tilted (electric) the motor down to run the freshwater through - all standard stuff. Also as per normal I keep the motor down till the following afternoon when I tilt it back up. But this time there was no power - no electrics working in the boat at all?
I checked the battery and the view-hole looked black so tried charging it overnight. Still black and still no power to the boat so put it down to a dead battery... Bought a brand new battery and same electrical issue. Checked first fuse in line and looks fine.
I figured the next component is the isolator switch with the standard exposed red plastic key on one side and the wiring hidden on the other. When I took out the red key I noticed a small drop of water on the end. I wiped it off, reinserted and got more moisture...
Could moisture in the isolator be causing the issue? Is this somewhat common for tinnies after a rough day.... hoping someone has more knowledge on this as taking out the isolator looks fiddly. I want to avoid if possible!
Thanks.

the electric motors steering
I have a 65lb leccy on my 4.3. metre stessco so I can't say I notice anything negative steering-wise. I am sure there is some truth to what you heard but not an issue if you have adequate power. I have a mate who had a 40lb minn kota on a 5.2m and it struggled in anything but the smoothest water and wind. It was mounted to the side as well. Come to think of it I have not seen any mounted right in the centre?
I have to add that I have only used my watersnake twice - went out on the weekend and there was no motion at all - looks like a warranty claim coming up -

looks great. i have just purchased the same mount and will get it fitted in the next week or so. i have been told that the steering may be effected by wind, fast current with the motor being mounted away from the centre line of the boat. what are your thoughts?
tia
Do you mean the electric motors steering ability or the whole boat when driving with the additional weight of the motor mounted?

Went for a land based session with a mate yesterday evening in Redcliffe. Had to take advantage of the weather, wind and tide. Would have taken the tinnie out but with a curfew placed on my mate we had to maximize fishing time.
Within 10 minutes of arriving I had missed a run and then my mate reeled in a decent 40cm Tailor. We got our hopes up for a solid Tailor session.
What actually followed was an on/off patchy bite of mainly flathead. The best two going mid fifties. Nice and plump fish but the laziest fighters I have ever come across!
Bait was a mix of prawns and pilchards. Hope more Tailor arrive in the bay soon.

Thanks for the notice. Sad news. I would frequent that store on my way to the pine or redcliffe. Then grab a coffee and sandwiches next door.
Hope another tackle shop ends up there.

As usual its been a while between posts for me. I hadn't been out in the boat since last year! I managed to get my newly serviced tinny (with new thermostat ) out to the Pine River a few days back, on a solo trip, and managed to land some hard-fought dinner.
I started the trip by motoring towards the mouth from the deep water bend boat ramp, sounding at a few not-secret-at-all spots but not getting many returns on the Lowrance display. I fluked the tide at the shallow section between the green-red-green markers just south of Dolyes Rocks, which is getting less passable every trip I make to the Pine!? A mate of mine is a Hydrographic Surveyor for the QLD gov, which incidentally doesn't service the Pine, and his thoughts are the Port of Brisbane is saving $$$ by reducing frequency or not dredging some channels anymore.
Long story short, after an hour or so I finished fishing the far-lower reaches with a donut, on both bait and lure. Bad start but not unusual in my experience in this river. The trend almost continued when I headed upstream to the Bruce HWY bridge and wrecks just west of it. I managed a couple of small bream on prawns. So I ventured further upstream as the tide was nearing high, anchoring on a bend and immediately landed plenty of small bream and flathead on prawns. Only when I through a lure did I manage a keeper - on first cast...
10 minutes later, a few more tiddlers on bait followed by...
...and 'NO' it's not the same fish photographed later!
Stuck around for 30 mins until high tide, then decided to leave with just enough flatty tails for the family for dinner that night. Hard work but worth the trip.

It's been ages since I started this topic but I thought I should update as the subject is regularly of interest to tinnie owners.
So I originally contacted Jared who advertised through the link that @Doyley posted. I contacted him back in late 2016/ early 2017 and he was out of materials and I was to get back to him a few weeks later. A combination of procrastination at my end & timing meant this job fell by the wayside until I contacted Jared early this week and we organized the work to be done this morning.
I was not disappointed. For $220 I got a seriously professional job. Can't fault a thing - he is a boat builder by trade, for one of, if not THE, most popular tinnie group of companies. Highly recommended. All that is left to do now is a paint job.
Thanks to all for their recommendations and suggestions 18 months ago now!!
Now it's time to look into a bow mount motor!!!

@Panther My boat wasn't ready for pickup yesterday.Hopefully it will be ready today.
Don't you love it when people take on jobs with no real intention of completing the work in the time-frame indicated! Hopefully he is just being extra meticulous in doing the work!
Yeah @sax I want the same when it comes to my prized toys. Rather spend & wait a bit more for professional work & service.
Still let me know how it turns out.

Hi @Panther I am picking up my boat today from a guy at Eagle Farm who is doing mine for $250
I will post the results once I pick it up.
When looking with who to go with, I was quoted from $150 through to $450. I decided to run with the quote that was in the middle of the road.
A couple things worth mentioning. You wont get an accurate quote unless you take your boat to the welder as there is so much variation between hull design and they will just be shooting in the dark. Ensure the person doing it uses at least 4mm thick aluminium. Lastly make sure the welder has experience doing the bow mount weld ups, a few people I talked to were more than happy to 'give it a crack' which isnt what you want for your pride and joy and the job is more complex than it first appears. Thanks sax that would be awesome.

@Panther that's not solid. It's right angle aluminium three pieces welded together. It's very light. Doesn't need to be I also needed the raising so the motor sits above the bow rails. Was a very difficult fit on a runabout with the windscreen opening bow rails to contend with
Ah I see. Makes sense.

This guy advertises on eBay. they look the same as the one I had fitted by the boat builder. He is on gold coast and can fit it to your boat as well
So that's where it came from. Thanks Doyley. I have plenty to go by now.

Look at the haswing helmsman gps spot lock for under a grand can't go wrong
Thanks Cmalty. I will definitely check out /research the haswing and make some comparisons.
The mount looks good too. One query... does it need to be that thickness for a haswing? Looks like the best part of 2 inches high.

Cheers Luc53. I looked them up and will get in contact. A mate of mine also recommended them as well as AMM.

Anyone know people or shops in Brisbane that make and weld on after market bow mount brackets/plates to aluminium boats? For Minn Kota, Watersnake, MotorGuide etc.. electric motors.
I emailed Holt Marine as their website pictures this, but got no response. May call them later. Are there any others who provide this service in Brisbane? I would prefer a few quotes. Below is the sort of example I would prefer taken from the Internet. Needs paint though!
Maybe even info on any bolt on solutions that look professional? My boat is a painted hull and 2014 model so I am not looking for quick and dodgy methods. Here is the front of my stessco.
Any recommendations to get an electric motor on the front of this boat would be much appreciated!
