  1. That's all well and good if the forecast is correct at 5-10 knots... one day it WILL be wrong and you'll be kilometers from help and wishing you waited a bit longer for that 5m deep sided V hull with plenty of horse power at the back to get you out of trouble. That's the kind of boat you see upturned on the news. Excuse the abruptness, it comes from a place of care and knowing what it's like to be in those situations in a 420 renegade with 50hp (with much higher sides than that jabiru mind you). I took on waves a few times, and nope, riding parallel to waves will not save you when wind v tide kicks in, only a more competent vessel will. Good luck!
  2. Welcome Neil! Great introduction report and amazing photos. Love the sun one; I got digger of Gallipoli vibes upon first glance. Well done on tagging a bunch, hopefully they will get caught and released yet again. Thanks, Sam
  3. Haha heaps of GT around this year, I like your chances. Got a dozen or so from 50-70cm, great sashimi at that smaller size and obviously a great tussle on medium heavy gear. Lost a couple of larger models at the rocks. No kings around this year so far which seems unusual. Dirty water produces, I hardly bother in the clean calm stuff anymore. Let me know if you venture over and we should have a cast!
  4. Hey mate, thanks for the read. I actually live at the point! Even tougher living conditions... A stone's throw from frenchmans and the gorge. Landbased has been good this year. Have not got into spearing yet. But yep, monster jacks along there at certain times of the year are still definitely a thing
  5. Fantastic mate.. good to see a big smile on your dial! Really glad I posted them out to you, they will get the use they deserve no doubt. Throw those crank baits in tight to structure and it won't be too long til you catch a few bream (or bass if you ever visit the freshwater creeks) That walk the dog lure is good for whiting on surface on the flats too. Maybe it's the start of a lure fishing obsession
  6. Thanks guys! Good outcome indeed. The rod and reel I'm not too fussed about; thanking myself for being thorough with keeping hatches locked so I didn't lose thousands $ more. I know the lowrance units are all good with splashes, but what about the dunking? Does anyone know if theres anything I need to do? Another safety note, I also carry a marine radio, PLB, mirror, knife, pliers inside my life jacket. Good peace of mind if i ever got seperated from the yak. I saw today how easy that could potentially happen... scary @Old Scaley when I bought the yak I jumped on YouTube and watched a plethora of vids on how to right a capsized yak. So thankfully I knew exactly what to do and had it flipped and jumped back on within 10 seconds I reckon. It's similar to getting out of a pool in the deep end... If you cant push yourself up and out onto your belly in one go, you won't be able to get back onto a kayak which is probably even harder due to the instability factor.
  7. Was hoping for a mackerel upgrade or snapper in the yak this morning! Got out to where I wanted to fish and a squall came through... I capsized in some horrendous wind vs tide s***. Bit scary with no visibility due to the rain. Nevermind, made it in safe and most things dry except for a new $500 combo I didn't lanyard
  8. Lovely report mate! Some good fish too
  9. Tailor 45cm allowing for the ~1cm gap between nose and start of measure. We all happy with that?
  10. Got a few small tailor today, probs legal but didn't bother. Finally got a decent one and put my bag down to organise photo etc and Mr Tailor goes flappy flappy shake hook and water slide down rock weeeeeee goodbye Mr Tailor. Sorry Southside, it appears I am incompetent so far
  11. Yep I'm 100% sure I have 0% clue when it comes to filleting bream haha. I have many good memories catching them though
  12. This is awful. Especially for those who witnessed the trauma. Having had one whistle straight past my head, it's terrifying to know that this is a very possible way to go out
  13. Mate that's awesome! Is the 80lb mono for the raspy mouths of jew and threadfin? How long? Attach with double uni knot? Would love to get a jew, only got one as tuna by catch before so I don't really count it. Have you tried lighter for bream and the smaller species? I've found by using 6lb I'd get a lot more bites. At least you've got a bit of insurance if something bigger latches on with 14lb. Pm me your address and I can send you some 3lb leader and a couple of bream lures I no longer use if you like. Good point about keeping the jetty clean if it's multi purpose!! I think the ones I'm referring to must be fishing specific.
  14. Certainly not me. I'm just a bloke who buys whole fish and takes them out offshore to take pics
  15. Cool fish! What line you running? I don't jetty fish much but have to say I don't think I've cleaned up blood Fish blood and squid ink on the jetties here are part of the furniture. A good indication to see when the squid are on too. It seems I'm missing the etiquette! I know now. Thanks
  16. Yeah I'd throw one on live for bait. Funny story, the last queeny I caught had a 29cm bream in its guts and the head of another. Amazing! Hahaha @GregOug na each to their own, I love Mullet which many people don't like
  17. Nice!! Great sesh. They look a tiny bit like tailor in some ways. Do they taste similar?
  18. Bream eat poo and have 45839 bones. I would hope so
