    perhaps I should rephrase..
In 2024 I aim to balance the surfing : fishing ratio. I used to surf a lot more. Some years it was most days. In 2023 I surfed once in the entire year and fished about once a month. So in 2024 I am aiming to surf as much as I fish. I’d be happy with 6 surfs to 6 fishes (1:1 ratio) around work and family commitments hence the “fish less” line.

there are many great things about pretending to adult, but alas some of the things you did lots as a youngun have to give!

My goals are to spend more time fishing with my kids and more time on the kayak. Captures would be a bonus.
also would like to help my “special” (as in the yellow bus kind of special) friend get his first whiting over 40 and first ever threadfin. You know who you are.

Should be plenty of options staying on plantation. If not try Fiji Surf Co they will troll you around for a mahi mahi, wahoo or tuna.
the namotu guys have a boat called Cobalt that do a range of fishing but super dooper expensive

Andrew_P reacted to lachrdr in longtail, mack tuna and kingfish
Reading the report by @Tuna are fish inspired me to write a report.
Headed out from the Port around 4.30am on Friday, with the plan to chase a spanish on trolled dead baits around cape moreton.
Was pretty choppy on the way out, but conditions improved throughout the morning. Within 10 minutes of getting the baits in the water we had a hit.
In came a 65cm yellowtail king. I had no idea of the size limit for these as I havent caught one before so it was returned.
The next two hours were uneventful, until we came across a school of mack tuna feeding on the surface.
They were on the chew and we spent a while catching them nearly every cast, with the hope of a bigger longtail lurking beneath.
This was not the case, and eventually we got back to trolling. Had one more hit and run without a hookup.
Time to head home, and about halfway across the bay I saw a large splash, with some birds heading for it.
Then I saw a huge longtail break the surface and excitement levels rose.
First cast with a 40g slug and I was on. Longtails certainly do some incredible initial runs.
After a good fight we had the fish on board. Weighed it the next morning and it was 19kg.
Plenty of meat shared around with friends and family so smiles all round.
Sometimes the target fish doesn't work out, but there is always the chance of decent by-catch in the bay.
    Cheers,
    Lachlan

I moseyed into TW too and picked up a Samurai extracta jigging rod for $200. Titanium guides on it woulda cost me about that if I was building it myself!

Yeah mate I bought the pe 1-2 I saw the 0.8-1.5 but couldn’t justify it! Samurai have high quality blanks and Fuji components (same company). Will pair with a ocea jigger 1500 and pe2 to jig for trout at the reef. Funstick!

Thats funny Andrew, I picked that up and looked at it as well.  I wish they had some of the heavier offshore spin sticks, that would have come home.  Nice stuff Samurai…

Got to love the traditional boxing day sales and this year was a beauty it seems.
I would have loved to have gotten down to Doug Burt’s Tackleworld on the GC with 40% off everything other than Venom rods and I think the reels.
Had to content myself in doing Tackle warehouse at Coorparoo which had 20% off storewide.  I was planning on a few lures and plastics for the tacklebox but didnt buy anything with 20% off when I found something I had lusted over for ages in the rod sales rack…..Loomis IMX Pro 904C swimbait rod.  I just couldnt walk away from that beauty when it was 40% off.
Could easily have walked out of there with 4 rods if I had less discipline…Edge Pelagic series spin rod for $380, Couple of Venom’s for $350….silly good prices but then I would have had to have bought more reels.
I am a sucker for a nicely built rod (and reel), lucky my will power is not totally gone.

So who else got lured into a deal or two?

Dug some wriggler worms on Tuesday afternoon , it was hot , and unfortunately for me ,the beach was covered in 6 inches of weed where I wanted to dig ,forcing me  to rake it off in order to get at the worms. Ended up getting enough  worms in about half an hour for a quick fish .
Headed down to the Pin on Thursday morning and fished the run up King Tide .
The fish were there but not in numbers I like ,but the quality of the whiting was excellent so I wasn’t complaining  .Also scored a lone Grunter which was a disappointment as I thought it was going to be a huge whiting . I tried to post a couple of photos in the usual way , but they still  don’t load .
    Regards
    Neil
