  1. Mint day out in the bay but still surprised with a midweek carpark. Wait until you see a reel car park in the bay during weekends.
  2. No radios on board? I always carry some spare handhelds in the car (useful when convoying/4wd). If I'm running with some other boats and they don't have VHF radio the handhelds are a godsend when meeting up. Especially if one group is hooking up at Spot X
  3. The main advantage I have heard with left hand reeling is that you save a second or so (before and after ) you cast as there is no re-positioning of the hands required. If you are casting and you get a hit on the intial drop you may potentially miss a strike because you are changing your hands. I attempted left hand reel and it was awkward at first but just like anything it is muscle memory and just takes practice. I have since moved away from left hand reel because with a second or sometimes third person on the boat it became problematic to manage left and right hand reels as typically the other deckies found it so foreign to use a left hand reel. Add to this I don't do too much casting from the boat. Having all the reels right hand just makes things easier. If you are solo fishing then you should persist especially if your style of fishing requires lots of casting.
  4. Thanks for the info @Ed.looks like you researched it extensively. I haven't heard of the Tica Uzio or the Tica brand at all but i think for 1/3 of the price of the reels you looked into its worth a try. Had you used Tica reels before? I'm not attached to any brand so will keep a lookout of the 4 reels listed, will probably just come to best value / price that I can find. Was hoping there were some End of Financial Year sales but nothing really popped Up
  5. Thanks JRED1 - I'm looking at the lower profile baitcasters rather then an overhead like the fin nor. I do realise the smaller capacity overheads do start overlapping with high capacity bait casters. I'm going with a baitcaster profile because: 1) I like how they feel in hand. - Better for all day fishing / jigging 2) More versatility to also cast out. 3) In general lighter for full day fishing 4) I don't need huge line capacity ie 300m+ because most of my fishing is inshore in 15m - 20m of water. If the fish i hook onto can reel off 200m of line then so be it
  6. Most of the baitcaster I've found have about 20lb / 150m line capacity. Looking at the Lexa, TranxA or Citica they will push about 220m. They come with drags in the 8kg-10kg so this this will hopefully be enough stopping power for most fish I come across inside the bay.
  7. I will be using it as a crossover hence i haven't gone done the path of an overhead reel where line capacity isn't an issue.
  8. The fish will have no chance.......and you will have no excuses
  9. All these posts from @Dinodadog and @rayke1938 make me want to get a small punt with an electric on the back
  10. Humm do you find you get better catches around slack tide when your bait doesn't have to be naturally weighted (heavy) down?
  11. What rating rod have u matched it with? Does it feel balanced in hand? What type of fishing will u be using the new combo for?
  12. Aaah so u haven’t activated and updated the card the first time? You need to do that on the PC with an sd card reader to get the bathymetry (sonarcharts) loaded
  13. Looking for reviews of high capacity baitcaster for inshore jigging / micro jigging. Anybody with experience with the Daiwa Lexa, Shimano Tranx or Citica? Not sure what Abu Garcia also offer As their website doesn’t make it easy to see line capacity. Working off the manufacturer websites is a pain when looking at spool line capacity. (Each One uses a different braid/mono strength) so u can’t directly compare without some maths conversions. Spin reels have spool sizes but there isn’t the same thing for baitcasters...go figure
  14. So then I don’t know why sonarcharts or not available and greyed out. Navionics+ and platinum+ cards all have sonarcharts
  15. How does the current go where u fish? Is it the Brisbane river or a creek?
  16. @ellicat can u check this menu to see if the navionics card is available?
  17. Is it still reading the card? If it is like my lowrance once the card is in to remove it u have to push the card in and the spring will unload the card out. Should be able to then tweezer the remainder of the card out?
  18. @Andrew_P now what are thinking for your first upgrade?
  19. Wondering if it is the navionics card or the unit greying the sonarcharts out. WIthout it switched on its no wonder you are not happy with the contours displayed.
  20. I think you would be sweet with the new boat. Dealer would have factored that in
  21. Got to also think about the boat fully loaded, fuelled up and geared up. Would you be pushing over 2 tonne then?
  22. Are the legs comfortable if sitting for extended periods on the chair? I know you will get wet sitting in the kayak but your legs will be more supported.
