  1. Hey @Cobiaaddict, I'm normally an early bird fisho but have always wondered when i see people heading out 3pm/4pm if the fishing is better in the afternoon compared to an early morning start. Cleaning the boat out in the dark doesn't really appeal to me. Should i be changing it up and trying out arvo sessions for snapper in the Bay?
  2. Could be a case of don't believe everything you see on Facebook. One of my mates swears that nothing on FB should be believed. He reckons fishos are the worse with fake news.
  3. The shovel nose wasn't playing the game. We couldn't get it to stay next to the boat long enough to de-hook so had to cut as close to the hooks as possible. Funny incident when I cut the line the rod was loaded up so it flicked back into my partner face but she was saved by her cap brim (bearing the brunt). Close called that we could laugh about but will have to be more careful next time. Just learning things and tid bits to watch out for every time we hit the water.
  4. My partner especially likes mackerel as she likes to clay pot them, the fish oils help enhance the flavours of the food. We cooked up both the mac and one bonito last night. So good fresh. Both flesh turned out tasty with the bonito probably slightly drier in texture compared to the mackerel. So mackerel wins that one. I fillet up the second bonito for flesh baits and kept all the fish heads for crab bait (no wastage from me)
  5. Some magic colours bouncing from the sun into the sky and water for those photos. Wondering if with the colder weather any tailor were around or is it a bit early in June. I'm thinking of 4WD and camping on the beach side this August for a long weekend.
  6. Ooh the grinners - I've being catching that many lately as well. I've started taking them home for garden fertiliser. Every tree i pop them under seems to be going gangbusters after a few weeks. What new sounder did you end up purchasing that doesn't have maps preloaded? What size baits / hooks are you using to be catching flounder? I love them crumbed and shallow fried.
  7. Yes trying to decide between the yamashita and the stainless steel ones. The plan is to paravane to find where they are likely located as articles like the one @Old Scaley posted say this is the most effective technique for schoolies. I've only really tried under a float when we have fished gold coast reefs for spanish, but interesting that you say you have had more success under a float compared to paravanes. Must be all the fishing reports that I read by Spero http://wp.fishingmonthly.com.au/2019/09/27/moreton-bay/ He seems to always be on the schoolies and swears by paravaning.
  8. Are there snapper photos? I can't seem to see them?
  9. What was the current doing around there? Was the bait hard against the bottom to be catching so many catsharks?
  10. Depends what kind of casting distance you want. To maximise your distance you will want a bit more especially if you are casting a light (finesse) lures. If you are bait fishing with a sinker i wouldn't be as fussed. As others have mentioned after a few snags or bust offs the line may be a bit too low.
  11. Fishing humm.....part art part science. So I like to hear thought process / planning / rigs / techniques. Basically any info that leads up to the catch or things that lead to your success (or failure) That way we can share and learn from each others experience leading to more catches to members
  12. Hi All, Done a search on the forum around the different types of paravanes and trolling boards. Couple of questions for those with experience: 1) Which type / design / Brand? : Makka, Hookem, Yamashita, Delta, @aussie123 sells some. Interested in which type is the most forgiving (for my poor boat handling) eg tight turns, staying at depth, false hookups. Some are metal, plastic (surfboard shape / triangle) 2) Which size for Moreton Bay - Targeting schoolies. Some of the sizing doesn't tell you what depth they typically get down to and or what trolling speed is required to get to correct depth? Cheers Hweebe
  13. The weather forecast Seeing as though last weekend the weatherman predicted 50% chance of showers but it stayed sunny most of the day, we decided to go fishing despite the forecast 1-3mm of rain. At the Manly boat ramp at 1st light - not many braved the weather with the pick of any parking spot available. It had been drizzling all morning but just as we launched the sun was peeking out and the drizzle temporarily stopped. Seeing some reports on FB of people bagging out at Fishermen's last week we headed to some usual whiting spots in 3-4m of water. Tide was running in so this was ideal for this spot. Never seen so few boats at Harrie's on a Saturday - counted 4 boats. Run out was choppy but no whitecaps, we expected some with wind against tide. Zero for Fishermen's We had Fishermen's gutter all to ourselves but drifts over the usual spots for whiting didn't produce. Tried several drift lines for the next couple of hours with no success. The target was whiting but with nothing happening we headed to Rous channel, where we spotted some nice fish arches on the sounder, not huge arches but something definitely there. Rous Channel The drift was SW to NE which kept us on a nice ledge / drop off depth in the channel. Caught a few small pinkies on the drift but nothing sizeable. We came across some nice bait shows so anchored up for brunch and started a burley trail. Using old pillies as burley we started drifting out some fresh pillies and managed one Bonito. My partner continued with bait and I switched over to 30g slugs. Over the next couple of hours we managed 4 baby school macs (~40cm), one 51cm school mac and a second bonito. Guitar fish. In between fish my partner landed her PB guitar fish. It was too big to get in the boat and still had plenty of energy but it would have been 1.3m to 1.4m in length on a 6kg outfit. She was pretty stoked to get it up to the boat as each time we got close to the boat it would make a run before we could ID it. (Needless to say her arm hurts today) Nice fight and runs at the start got us excited before the familiar dead weight right under the boat got us thinking it was some kind of shark. It was not happy get lifted up to the surface. Guitar fish.MP4 Until next time tight lines - next week we are thinking of hitting Jacob's well with the predicted wind forecast. Hweebe

The attack is just one problem. With Kotoni Staggs out Darius Boyd in the centres. Whenever any team gets within the 20m line and spread the ball they look like scoring.

I think we are stuck with him for another season as he has already taken up his 2021 option. Joey Johns saying it would be better value to bench him rather then play him.
  16. Good Read Hamish, I know the feeling sometimes it is catfish after catfish out of the river. What i used to do was have your lighter rig setup (prone to catfish) but a chance of catching anything and then as the backup I would have a freshwater eel shark rig soaking out the back at all times. Even if there are catfish around having this rig out the back always gave hope to catching something sizeable and fun during the session.
  17. If in doubt - Meteye will also give you Total wave height. I mainly use seabreeze as it gives me a very quick snapshot during the week and then as I get closer to the weekend and fishing looks a chance I'll use Meteye to plan the trip. Meteye is just a bit more fiddley to get up
  18. @GregOug Inside the Bay i pretty much just ignore wave height because it is largely protected by the islands or you will be able to find a protected spot behind a smaller bay island (Otherwise i'd never be able to get out since i'm limited to Sat/Sun) Mainly just look at wind, tides (for tide directions) to work out how much potential chop there will be on my run out in the morning and run back in. I'll plan the start and end of my sessions around wind/tide (for when i expect the least amount of chop). As @ellicat mentioned outside top of Cape you would have to factor in wave height and wave periods or for me risk starting an infinite burley trail
  19. Might be a fishing window Saturday/Sunday if the rain stays away.
  20. That Flatty would have been real nice crumbed. Would have been some nervous moments trying to net her single handed.

    Coolum

I haven't tried collum but you will have better access to the water edge with the Maroochy River.
  22. Ok you have tested it with two cars and have the same issue. This means the issue is somewhere between the trailer plug and the light bulb. Now to troubleshoot. To determine if there is a grounding issue or short you need to test for continuity. For this you will need a multimeter. @rayke1938 is on the money. The test if you have done it before is straight forward but probably easier to explain in person The other question i have is if your headlights are off, when you turn your turn indicator on do the trailer brake lights also flash on? (This would indicate a short between these two wires)
  23. Do you find releasing Bass in the same spot caught spooks the nearby school - or no issues with this?
