  1. What's the max drag on that reel when full locked?
  2. Do you have a photo of the bearing that won't budge? It will probably just be salt water corrosion or old factory grease holding it in place.
  3. Always tough when you rock up at first light and no birds are out and you don't have a spot x in the middle of no where like @Allnighter. Nice Tuna would have been good fun to reel in.
  4. Halco slug on a baitrunner? Interesting combo
  5. If you buying a new Lowrance they will mostly all come with C-Maps Australia pre-loaded. You can take up @Old Scaley offer and compare to the Navionics Gold.
  6. Did you have to use a car jack to lift the trailer off the the tow ball so that there is a enough height for the jockey wheel to be put into the vertical position. Fun times been there too
  7. Side by side of mud island Navionics with “fish n chips” turned off. Cmaps is the chart with the dots. Like @Nog said with fish n chips on navionics provides even more contour detail then the attached pic. I haven’t found either map to display green zones well and have resorted to mapping waypoints and trails around green zones so it is very clear for me.
  8. I have cmaps that came with a lowrance HDS-Live and also run an old navionics plus card from about 5 years ago. For navigation I use cmaps as it is more current however the bathymetry mapping detail or what navionics call sonarcharts showed more detail (even though older) which is useful for looking for structure or drop offs. Lowrance is partnered with cmaps whilst Garmin Navionics What is the price difference in the two brands?
  9. The theory is the fuse blows before the wire connected melts due to a short. The wire that came with my battery monitor was around 1mm or 18awg which over the short 30cm would be good for 5amp+ (Easily). I used 3amp (Under the 5amp) as recycled, plus it is a fuse size on some of my other electronics already. I carry spare fuses for all my boat fuse sizes, could have chosen 1amp or 2amp but it is not a fuse size on the boat so would need to add more fuse spares) Fuses always on the hot side (positive).
  10. I do leave them on all the time, the current draw is 1mA (negligible) which is more than compensated for by the trickle charger which I have always connected. Not saying I know enough about wiring but the fuse is a no brainer for me. I’ve played around with enough 12v wiring starting with my teenage years with car audio, speakers amps to complete rewire of my last boat and trailer. The fuse has saved my bacon and potential fire a few times. You can never be sure with eBay electronic components in a marine environment.
  11. Ah yes that does get tricky and can be slippery. The spare trailer tyre on my trailer arm just happens to be the perfect height to act as a ladder but there is definitely some body contortion and flexibility to get up and down solo.
  12. @Old Scaley good effort bagging out on the macs. “A great day as usual” . I only hope to get one of your days out in the bay
  13. Could go no hands all together with a boat latch system and drive on, however these don’t come cheap and would be more expensive compared to an electric winch.
  14. Yes I assume he is talking about the float and ring device. If you are anchoring in ~20m probably not worth the extra effort or time. However in deeper water if I didn’t have an electric winch I wouldn’t be without one saves a lot of physical effort. On my previous boat I had it setup with float and anchor in a milk crate under my drivers seat, never had to go through the cabin hatch at all to Drop or retrieve the anchor when fishing solo using this float.
  15. The instructions say they can be connected straight to the battery but I don’t recommend this. Good practise Would be to add an inline fuse in case of any shorts. I had a spare 3amp inline fuse from a previous sounder install which I just recycled. My boat batteries are dual terminal so it was a straight bolt on as the second set of m10 terminals were not being used. Not that I have needed to switch the Bluetooth monitor off but the ones I purchased have no way of turning off (outside of disconnecting them from the battery) so an inline 12v switch may be handy.
  16. How did you go @Drop Bear? I spoke too soon wind is picking up for Sat
  17. Nice Jew horse or not gotta be happy with that one. Where did you launch from and fish today?
  18. Awesome, congrats mate. Looks a very clean boat. Lightly used by the last owner. Anything you would like to add before you hit the water for a fishing session or is it good to go?
  19. MetEye looks better although tide running in (Saturday AM)
  20. What’s your preferred way of cooking up the macs?
  21. I need to find a job that allows me to fish mid week. So many times weekday weather is mint before blowing a gale on weekends. Let us know how you go.
  22. Near the border is it Maroon dam?
  23. They are available as an Ebook as well on Apple, google or kindle.
  24. Can confirm that was the case at manly. Trailers parked on garden beds, kerbs and side streets when I headed back around 1pm. Heard it was mayhem around 2pm at the ramp.
  25. Thanks for tips Benno573 Have only used placcies land based for flathead and have tended to go straight to bait at mud . Makes sense now that you say not much success with the plastics during the day there. Will have to try floating baits just off the bottom. I’m guessing u are only very lightly weighted if any weight? I’ll have to go the old adage big bait big fish seems to be the theme. I’m forum hopping at the moment, trying to work out which one is most active to invest some time and meet some people out on the water in Moreton bay. Will post “going fishing” next time. Havent ventured beyond tangalooma but would love to tag along to the cape on a good day. Lots of getting used to fishing from a boat with the misso as deckie (or I should say captain) I’m on many fb fishing groups but the convo just has not real depth like your post just now.
