    NRL 2022

@ellicat does your ladder predictor have the broncs in or out of the 8 now? I think the Raiders are now in the box seat for the last 8 position.
  2. Have only caught as cast net by catch teneriff/breaky creek. I think not many reports as targetting Luderick mean means different type of bait compared to your bread and butter species in the river, so this limits your catch options.
  3. My fish catching ability probably can't be helped by any man made device however using the leccy again on the weekend to do some beacon bashing. Here was my experience. 1) Held spotlock no worries in the central bay/northern bay - Went 72" shaft and this definitely helped keep the prop in the water in chop. 2) Made lining up beacons and manoeuvring around boats and captain nielsen wreck a breeze. (normally it takes a newbie like my at least a couple of drifts to find the drift line to set anchor and I'm always self conscious of the noise i make and the annoyance to other boats) 3) Made it easy to drift / hold spot lock over bait shows to sabiki up my bait for the day. Found the bait and jigged as much bait as required for the session in one go. Again normally this requires multiple drifts. Plus added benefit, both my partner and I can both jig for bait when previously I'm stuck near the wheel in case the drift line needs adjustment. Remote leccy means this is no longer an issue. 4) Did not test this out on the weekend but i can see how this will help me to stealthy move up to bust ups in the northern bay and not spook the school. Overall the Leccy means more time for actual fishing (line in the water) and less time anchoring, collecting bait, adjusting drifts which in theory should ultimately help with catching more fish. And for a relatively inexperienced boater like me it also means less stress of hitting things/boats with leccy always available. For me it makes boating a more relaxing activity - Which is ultimately what I'm seeking to do on my weekends away from a work desk. I get to have a relaxing day (and maybe catch a few fish) I think once you can justify the cost (it is not doubt an expensive purchase), not many fisho's will have a bad word / regret in getting a leccy installed. It opens up options / boating that you can't do with the tried and tested anchor.
  4. Anything else smaller would just be out of place on Greg's boat. I only got to see the ss64 in the garage - but Outboard is a beast.
  5. Or the weather was mint and all old mate could think about was wetting a line?

    Arvo trip.

I always associated squidding with good clear water and westerly's - I would have quickly switched to Tailor after the first hookup

Broncos "resting" Cobbo says to me they don't back themselves to win against the Eels. I guess that will "freshen" up Cobbo for the do or die Dragons clash. Heading back to Suncorp tonight knowing that i can't be any worse than how we played against Melbourne.
  8. I looked up the Frontier 5.9. 900kg hull only but i thought this weight was supposed to be a positive compared to lighter pressed aluminium to give a more comfortable ride.
  9. Saw a very clean and nicely setup Polycraft 5.9 Frontier centre cab on the road today. Got me thinking why didn’t this hull material take off? Arguable best of both worlds between fibre and aluminium? Is it because it’s a compromise or because mods are difficult on a plastic boat? Maybe just the stigma of a plastic boat being “inferior” hull material? Thoughts?
  10. I always have a look over the water as i cross the highway bridge and there is always a boat / boats anchored up over the weekend. Surely someone is catching something.....either that or they are all out avoiding being at home??. I know for one of my mates, the major perk of crabbing and fishing as a hobby is getting out of the house.... away from errands and chores LOL.

Should still get enough drift / drop in that depth for the squid to attack but try 2.5 or 3 weight to keep it in the strike zone for longer.

What sort of depths were you squiding in? I've only really targeted squid land based from Manly rock wall and we had to shave squid lure weights to slow the drop down to entice a squid.

Boats looking the goods on the water and some night arvo fishing photos. Great that u have a job that allows u to get on the water after work. Mates getting Tailor on main beach at night last week so they should surely be around in the Broadwater
  14. Fingers and toes crossed the weather plays the game. Sound like you have your itinerary sorted. There’s two types of holidayers 1) Planners…. 2) Let’s Wing it…
  15. Before you uninstall the app - check if it still works on your old iphone 6. And instead of uninstalling the app on the iphone 6 - See if there is a button to "log out" Also check what version the App is in the iphone 6. We may be able to dowload that old version onto you 11 in case its because of the new app
  16. I would have gone motorguide as well to link up with my HDS live however in a cabin boat i wanted auto deploy so had to go minn kota.
  17. 30lb is a good all round diameter in the bay. Before the advent of braid running straight mono to hook was normal. The ganged hook will give you some protection for mackeral, i don't use wire in the bay, better hookup rate without it imho. Just wondering if you plan to troll baits whether you would benefit from a swivel (reduce line twist) to fluoro (and fluoro benefits)
  18. For the Stejcraft I definitely think you would need a 112lb 36v 72" combo. I didn't get a chance to try spot lock in strong current on Saturday but will continue my test in Rous or northern bay soon and report back. Does the Stejcraft catch much wind in your experience. Weight wise and length wise its bigger than my boat 575c and I know that most of the Bar crusher 615c owners (closer to your boat size, weight and fuel capacity) upgrade to the 112lb 36v 72" combo. At least if you get that combo - you won't have any regrets of not going bigger. You went big on the outboard and have no regrets, i don't see why it would be any different for the trolling motor. I have to admit I'm already in love with the minn kota after 1 session. Didn't have to use my actual anchor winch once and still had 80% on lithium battery at the end of the day

    Tough Week

Thanks for the tip @ellicat I ended up doing a late sesh on Saturday to Amity banks, Maroom Hole and troll along the Rainbow channel, that setup works great, the swivel really helps reduce line twist at the lure. No hookups for makeral but got countless grinners on the spoon. What do you think was the case? too high / low in the water column? Too fast / slow Wrong area all together? My target for the day was to end up at hole in the wall to target some snapper (I was on a call with Spero whilst he was hooking / bagging out on snapper in 12ft of water.) He sent me the photo before he posted here. http://wp.fishingmonthly.com.au/2022/04/20/moreton-bay/ No luck there but i think there was too much boat traffic compared to when Spero was there. Heaps of herring on the sounder so I sabiki jigged them for next session, couple of pike and a yakka as well, so mixed bag of bait for next session.
  20. So an honourable thief but the rubber bands is a simple tell tale for next time.
  21. Thanks for the complement Can you check if you have logged into the app using the same credentials as the ipad on the iphone. What you are describing says to me the Navionics subscription is not registered on the iphone and may be the generic base map.

    Yak attack

Don't know much about kayaks but cool fish hotels, where have you been deploying them, do you go back and check on success of the hotels?
  23. Couldn't agree more - Lots of sessions to land my first jewie in the port of brisbane but combination of livey at night (from the poo shoot), drifting close into the shipping container lights (without getting told to move on) on a slack tide was what landed me my first jewie.
  24. Had a mate that got into making some stick baits and he gifted me a couple to use in the bay. He was over the moon when I sent him a photo of his 1 of kind lure hooked up to a longtail.

    NRL 2022

I was quietly confident after the first 15min. Then proceeded to make what in hindset was a foolish wager for a beer/shot for every 4 pointer scored. Watching it live the storm were just so clinical in their structure. You miss it a bit on TV but you could just see them working / advancing up field and getting into their patterns of play clear as day and Broncos had no answer. Even my missus who is a league novice was saying "they're going to score on the right/left here" and sure enough the precision. Needless to say sore head and I snoozed right through my fishing alarm on Saturday and missed the dawn bit / high tide.
