I tend to agree Junky - I've been on multiple whale watch tours out of hervey bay and if this was real risk tour operators wouldn't want to be anywhere near the whales. Having said that the rules mean the operator has to shut the engines once whales get to a certain distance. The whales will often approach or are curious of the boat, but they move with precision always avoiding the boat.
Now if the boat was moving whilst the whale is close and  thats another story and I can see how crashes may occur. Especially if a boat is moving around unpredictably

    I reckon Bank's should stock ATM's better.
I went to 4 different ones and they all said insufficient funds.

Line ratings and how they are specified probably seem to not have any standard as each region seems to have a different approach.
This basically means you need a calculator / spreadsheet  to convert PE ratings / line diameters / reel sizes to determine what line type and length you need.

It's mainly because if you hook up to a decent fish that you  may need to apply full drag / load. This may mean at times you could be pushing the limits of the Rod rating. In this case you want something "weaker" and cheaper than your rod to break. It most cases this means letting the braid line break to save your rod from breaking.

Went into town today. Had to go to the bank to get some cash, but ended up at the ATM outside the bank and another bloke got there before me.
So I got in line behind him and he was taking forever and I noticed he was standing on one leg. Anyway after a while with not much action on his part I tapped him on the shoulder and asked what he was doing AND he said " checking me balance mate "

Doable but I would say not ideal land based. I don't think they fight dirty but it might take a while to reel in land based.

    Hey All,
Been a bit quiet this past 12-months, with not much fishing due to lack of motivation & house reno's ,
I think I managed 3 trips in 2022 and didn't catch a fish/ apart from catching live baits & squid,  not sure if that counts,
So I sold the Surtees in October 2022 as it hadn't been used enough and the offer was more than I paid for it, wasn't even advertised, just a random guy at the ramp liked it, so he bought it.   So, I took it with plans on doing something else with money, but after a trip to Fraser Island before easter for a wedding the itch came back to get back on the water soon,
So last week I bit the bullet and ordered another Surtees, not a Centre console but this time a 610 Gamefisher  with a few tasteful additions along with a 130Hp 4 stroke and Aluminum Trailer.  The Build will start at the end of May I believe and will be completed sometime in August ready for shipping.
Should arrive early October from NZ and will take about 2 weeks to get fitted out and get her on the water, will be a tough 6 months waiting, but I'm sure it will be worth it.
If I get any build photos i will try to add them up here once it gets started.
    Cheers Josh <><

Hweebe got a reaction from ellicat in fg knot . why, when, where, what?
I like @Junky's comment because a bad FG knot (done wrong) is going to be more prone to slipping then a simple uni to uni knot.
If i'm luring and constantly flicking lures I'll use an FG knot so that the knot passess through guides easily.
If i'm just bait fishing and knot thickness isn't an issue, I just use an improved albright which i can do easily (not quite blindfolded)
