I think I know what’s going on here, @Angry51was cleaning out his shed and stumbled upon some old school powdered milk, the packaging & label are quite tatty and impossible to read as it’s been in there for 30+ years, being the frugal bushy that he is, he’s trying to work out just what brand it is so he can jump online and bring up the MSDS, that way he can ascertain if it’s still good to use in his cuppa, or his breakfast, Hahahaha,
My only advice to you @Angry51is it’s not worth the risk, treat yourself to some brand new powder.

41% success rate huh, haha, oh your a hard taskmaster Hamish, I can only guess that if you landed a legal Squire that percentage would’ve increased to at least 60?, Hahahaha, nice work though

Thanks @kmcrosby78, I was extremely happy with my efforts yesterday, and have quite a few tasty fillets now.
There were a couple of boats there, but they weren’t too close to me so I was able to bring the fish around and use my back to hide what was going on, being solo celebrations were kept to a minimum and there wasn’t any hold up for the photo to blow my cover, they would’ve heard some pretty loud ordinary language coming from me after getting railed though, they might just think I suffer from Tourette’s?

Such a pretty fish, and so delicious. Well done @Another Wazza. Crabs for bait?
Yep, I didn’t find too many though, your right, they’re a stunning fish, it’s kind of like eating a Macaw parrot when you know you should be eating chicken haha

I set myself a little goal for this summer, and that was to hopefully land a decent sized Tuskie, with my L plates on I started fishing the reef around the bay islands and was having some degree of success, it’s unforgiving territory and I’ve probably lost more fish than I’ve stopped.
Still keen to tangle with the larger models I sucked it up and went fishing on the weekend, it felt naughty and wrong as I have become spoilt doing week day trips lately, anyway the plan was to launch around 4:30 and be back no later than 11 to avoid a chaotic boat ramp, first up I was going to see if I could locate some Jew before targeting the Tuskies, after sounding around for half an hour or more to no avail I gave up and set off.
Upon arriving at the spot I did a few drifts flicking a plastic for 2 small squire and a small Maori Cod, with that out of my system I began focusing on the Tuskies, not long after the first drop I hooked up to a nice fish that went 4.5kg
The second drop saw me peak a touch too early, big swing no ding, I think I might have ripped it back out of his mouth, 3rd drop saw me connected to this one
slightly smaller but still great fun, the fourth drop had me hooked onto a much larger specimen which buckled me over and proceed to return to his home oblivious of my locked drag, it’s definitely true, these things pull like freight trains!, happy with the 2 in the box I made my way back in before 10am only stopping for a quick flick here and there for no result.
As far as Tuskies go these are really only pups, but I feel I’m on my P plates now, fingers crossed one day I might get my opens.

Nice work Hamish, and nice scenery too, irrespective of size you acquired the target species, like you said, a fun way to spend a couple of hours

Nice fish Brian, it was always only a matter of time before you were graced by a legal specimen.
When you sent me the pic of it in the net today, I initially thought he was a little tacker around 60 or so, I failed to realise the sheer size of your butterfly catching net

Hey there @mzaakir, both those reels are pretty good for the price point, you won’t go wrong with either of them

Did you find some Bex cleaning out the shed?, they stopped selling that stuff down here in the late 70’s, and as for the line down, yes, yes I do need to get a line down, it’s been ages since I wet a line, the wind down here has been horrible lately, Hahahaha
