    Hi Breaming with Bro
I'm pretty sure reefies don't swim off well and if they did they'd probably get sharked. That's why he stopped when he hit his bag limit, because if he caught any more it would be like suicide... or that's what I think anyway, I'm sure tugger will be able to confirm 🙂 As well as that, they are some of the best tasting fish in the sea lol.
    Cheers Hamish

Geez it probably would've taken me ten 😉 You must be getting quicker and quicker at cleaning them every time you catch some 🙂

Yeah, you must be going that far out and it wouldn't be pleasant in a small boat in rough weather offshore.

    Hi tugger
That is some great fishing, and some quality reefies too. Nice to see a good feed being pulled up too 🙂 How long does it take to clean all of them 😉 The maximum amount of fish I've cleaned is about 7 and I was only helping, I couldn't imagine doing 40+ lol.
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

Lance and I set off from brisbane to stay the night in town at Agnes waters the next morning we set off early heading north to the bunker group. It started off slow with most spots without fish but the fish that did hit the deck were quality. Big red throat and tuskies pulled hard and Lance hooked a big trout it went 65cm.

We kept working hard and put more trout, rte, tusky and cod in the box. On a spot we had 2 Cobia swim up to the Boat and Lance dropped a bait in front of it taking the bait the cobes took off and after 5 minutes got sharked. Before sunset it was time to look for red emperor. On a red spot I hooked a big tusky only to get sharked with just the head to show no reds turned up either.
Anchoring up behind the reef we got a good night's sleep then at it again the next day. The one thing with multiple days you get to know where they're biting and when. So the reds might chew early morning and they did I found a small red emperor going 62cm.
We found no more reds in my go to spot so off to new ground here Lance hooked a good tomatoe cod as I hooked a big red. My fish fought hard head thumping as they do and peeling line at times and slowly I start to gain line. He fought all the way to the Boat and hit the deck at 78cm and about 12kg.

A marlin swam past the boat and we through baits out with no luck. The fish went off the chew out deep so we moved in close finding a couple more trout. The fish went really quiet and with no wind it was hot and time for a swim.

The fishing in the late arvo was red hot and the quality was there with Lance landing the best red throat going 55cm and it pulled hard. We bagged out at 5pm on the coral reef fin fish with 40 fish onboard we went to anchor as the wind had picked up.
The next morning we set off early heading south to a mackerel spot but no luck there. The run home was perfect with less than 5 knots all morning and a good trip home on the road we rolled in just after dark.

    Hi Breaming with Bro
Good to see some nice fish coming, I'd be very happy if I scored a bream and 4 flatties on lures in under an hour. Like kmcrosby78 said, flathead do have a very raspy mouth, so if I were you I'd be going with 10lb leader. Maybe up or down it depending on how the area is fishing. You are off to a good start, and fishing in rivers like that you'd probably have the chance of big bream, cod, whiting and if you are super lucky a little jewie (I'm dreaming lol). 😉
    Cheers Hamish 🙂

    Hi kmcrosby78
Thanks for that 🙂, I am finding that they bite a bit better in the early morning opposed to night/afternoon. Yeah, I don't eat the fish, but if I caught the cod somewhere else it would be dinner 😉
Also lol, you wouldn't expect a wobbegong to bite, would you?

went fishing this arvo first 10 minutes i got a small bream using bread as bait so i switched to a zmen slim swims 2.5 inch in opening night
with a 1/8 jighead as a size 1 hook. First cast soon as the lure hit the water flathead busted me off . So I switched my leader from 4lb to 6lb
a few cast later landed a small flathead basicly 5 metres away from the wharf i was fishing from and 40 minutes go past and I’ve landed plenty of
flathead around the wharf all undersize but was a good session overall caught 1 bream and 4 flathead . Still learning how to fish with lures
as I’ve only been fishing for a year now and I’ve just using bait for my first year of fishing . Good start with the lures btw the gear is suitable for lures
I use light braid with fluorocarbon leader and a small 2000 daiwa reel with a full graphite 3-8lb rod . So i think im off to a good start. Any advice would be helpful . Btw the jigheads i was using were the tt lures headhunters . The fishing session was 50 minutes long

    No worries Hamish.
I'm sure you will work it out easily.
It is only a very slight adjustments. You can barely tell you've moved it.
Also, you'll know if you adjust it the wrong way. The lure will be even more uncontrollable.

    Breaming with bro.
I am refering to the flat steel ring that comes out of the lure with the split ring through it in the pic. Some lures have just a steel loop. Either way, they're all tunable, well 99% are. Some lures are just duds.

Are you aware you can tune lures to swim straight?
A slight bend on the piece of steel that the split ring goes through will do wonders. Sorry, I don't know the correct term for the bit I'm talking about, I just know how to do it.
Just because they're cheap doesn't mean they're crap. I've purchased big rapalas that I've had to tune cause they kept rolling out to the surface.

As for hooks and split rings, spend the money on quality like owner trebbles and seahorse splitty's.

    Hi all
My brother and I decided to go to our local park on the Brisbane River yesterday, targeting sharks. We were successful and had some other surprises. Here's what happened, and the statistics of the trip 🙂
So, after waking up at 5:30AM, I woke my brother up. Well, it was to early for him, so I got my Dad up and he took me down. After he left, I threw out my shark lines, one with a slab of mullet, the other with a bony bream. The combos were a Rogue Firepoint 6'6" and a Penn 650 with 30lb braid, as well as a lower quality set up.  I was up on the pier area, not on the jetty, but i saw two pecks, (well strikes) and I ran down thinking "Jeez, am I on one already?" Nope! I reeled it in, and nothing was on the hook - *disappointed*. Then, I caught a little catfish which was perfect shark bait size, which i kept (mainly because the line was stuck in it's gills). I pulled up a couple more, threw the cast net and caught a prawn for live bait, then Declan came down with Dad, and after a couple more bait checks we had caught about 5 catties. They each put up a good fight for their size, they really took off when the drag was loose 🙂 Great fun too. The catfish are caught on a 1000 size Shimano Sienna and a 2500 Diawa Shinobi.
Now it was about 8:00AM, and I did another bait check on the shark lines. I felt a sudden pull, then realised I was hooked up. After about a five minute fight, I realised the little bully was tangled with this line and he was actually hooked on the other 🙂 It was a pretty bad situation, because he had some wire tang;ed around his body, but after he rolled a couple times I could walk him down to the jetty to land him. In about another 10 minutes, he was netted and then released. Here he is-

We didn't get a precise measurement but I'd say he was around 80cm and about 5 kilos. He scoffed a big chunk of mullet down too. After he was dealt with and released, Declan and I pulled up a couple more catfish, and by that time it was warming up a bit (but we were in shade). We only kept one shark line out, i figured it would be easier to handle. We had a crowd watching the bull shark too, a lady who walks there a lot and someone else.
So, we re-casted all the lighter lines then upped the catfish count to seven or eight. Then, I dropped a line right next to pylon (mainly so it wouldn't get tangled with the other because we were fishing the run out of the end of the pier which is only about five metres wide). I hooked up after about ten minutes, at first thinking it was an ok catty again, but then after feeling the weight and the runs it was doing back to the structore I released it was something better. I got it away from the structure and then was happy/surprised to see a nice estuary cod on the end of my line. I slowly walked it down while Declan was grabbing some gear, like the landing net, brag mat, lip grips and pliers and he scooped it up. I dehooked it and it measured about 40cm on the mat. Here it is -

He was released to be caught next time 😉 and swum off well, back under the pier/jetty. 🙂 After that, Declan pulled up a few more catties (I let him have them after  set the drag, etc) and he was having fun. After we got the tally to ten, the bite went quiet, as it was about 10:00AM and the tide had slowed a little. Most of the catties would've been under 30cm, but he caught a couple bigger ones. Then, I pulled in one more and my Dad came down and took us home. Here are the statistics of the trip:
    Statistics
Tide: 1.7metre high, run out and .8 metre low, at approx. 10:00AM
Moon Phase: First Quarter, so not that much run
    Weather: 34c, 55% humidity
Wind: Very glassy, though the breeze picked up later in the morning
Tackle Used: 14lb braid mainlines, 12;b mono leader, size 2 bean sinkers, 4/o suicide hooks, 30lb braid mainline, 80lb wire trace, 100lb mono leader, 6/o circle hook.
    Fish Caught: Shark x 1, Catfish x 9, Estuary Cod x 1
    Bait Caught: Prawn x 1
    Bait Used: Herring, Mullet, Prawn
    Successful Overall: Very Successful Trip

Last minute choice this morning,  woke up and no rain so went for a bank fish. Started lightly raining as soon as I got there. It was great, kept me cool and plenty of fish. Managed 28 bass, all on spinnerbaits for 2 hours fishing and home for breakfast. Each take was the same, I would get a bump followed by a savage hookup. It was like they were sampling it first.Had to quit as the pain was getting to me, legs, hips and back.See my ortho doc next tuesday to plan my next op, I think I 'll try a new hip this time.
