I will probably get one in the future but I already have the spin reel and the braid is coming in the mail soon . Not to long ago I found a saltist overhead 2010s model on market place in good condition for $20 it was only on marketplace for 20 minutes or so . I messaged the seller 5 minutes after it had been listed but someone already beat me would have been a great to have it but all well you can’t win everytime 

Looking for 2pc 6-7’3 graphite rod that’s gonna go well with a 5000 size shimano spooled with 300m of 20lb/PE 1.7 braid. Not really sure what I’m gonna be using this setup for all I know so far is it’s mainly going to be a boat rod and maybe every blue moon a light landbased game rod. This setup is mainly going to be used offshore mid nsw anywhere from port stevens to Coffs Harbour . So basically 

1 looking for a new rod need suggestions 

2 need any good advice I can get about ocean/offshore fishing 

3 need any good advice on lure choice fishing methods , speices and any other helpful information I can get .

bought some tasline 300m of 20lb tonight was gonna buy J braid x8 in multi colour but decided tasline had a very great rep and was thinner then j braid . So I decided to pay the extra $11 for the tasline im gonna spool it on to my Sedona 5000 and see how it goes . if any one uses tasline or knows someone who does . what do yous think about tasline

if your chasing fish like bream flathead and maybe the odd tailor your better off using 10lb braid . If your not chasing small speices such as bream whiting baitfish etc often and are targeting fish like bigger flathead tailor snapper salmon juvenile GT your better off with the 15lb . My setup with 15lb braid on it is a 4000 size reel matched with a 4-7kg rod  . I recently bought it and im keen to try it out on some snapper big tailor or whatever else I can catch on it

Yep I use 150m of 12lb braid on mine and suits it perfect

For sport my school has a fishing option cause the school is next to the river when I was 12 I used to go down there when they had sport on I didn’t go to that school back then I used to go fishing with the other school now my current school and catch all the bream and people weren’t catching anything some people got annoyed at me and some asked for tips and advice I usually gave them a bit of bread and a hook and every now and then they would get a decent bream . Although now I wouldn’t choose fishing for sport as my local area got ruined by the floods and washed the jettie among other things away and also the fact back then I had cheap fishing gear and I was just using bread if I was to do fishing for sport now I wouldn’t wanna risk bringing a Stradic and $100+ rod to school and also plastics and jigheads which the amount I would bring would props be worth $40-50 not only is it risky for breakage but if some dodgy kid wanted to steal it they could get a bit of coin for it to. But never less it seems like you had a bit of fun with the handline good job on the baby cod

Yeah I might look into purchasing one to fit 30lb braid the 5000 size but not until atleast a year i got enough reels for now and I already got a 5000 sedona  and gonna spool it up with 300m of 20lb . They look like great reels and there price should be around $140-$150 the RRP is always higher  on the shimano site usually then new shimano reels come out they are fairly expensive for example I spent awhile looking at my Stradic FL until I saved enough money and I luckily managed to get one for $250 at BCF with their price beat policy I found another one online that was cheaper then BCF but when they first came out and for the first year they were 2019-late 2020 they were $269 at cheapest for the 1000/2500 now the absolute cheapest is like $230-250.

My first foray into Sustains was the one before FG, then owned a few FGs for a  while before wondering why I bothered over a stradic. Sold them all to shift to Stradic FLs which feel better. Now it just seems like the Stradics offer way better value for money. 

Yeah I looked into the sustains before and I’ve just found they are overpriced.  stradics preform just as well in my opinion and it seems it will be the same with the new sustain . This video explains all the differences between the 2016/2017 stradics compared to the 2016/2017 sustain

So far I’ve found out the nasci has 5+1 bearings it looks a lot better then the nasci FB and the new nasci (nasci FC) is silver and has a screw in the handle like the Stradic FK or Stradic ci4+FB a screw in with a hinge . If they keep it the same price which I think they will it will be a decent upgrade from the previous nasci im pretty sure it has a gear upgrade to I think the gear upgrade is a worm gear oscillation system now instead of the locko motive level wind system that was in the previous nasci although this is not confirmed yet overall pretty decent upgrade

. The new nexave is pretty much a upgraded sienna FG unfortunately the new nexave range only goes up to a 5000 no bigger 8000 size reels that was found in the previous series . The nexave features the same gearing system found in the sienna FG has the same ball bearing count but has a non plastic drag knob which is sealed a slightly better drag upgrade to .the handle is the same as the sienna FG but has the same knob as the Stradic the new nexave is also a black and blue reel .overall pretty decent upgrade and would pay the extra $20 for it over the sienna the new nexave looks like it would be good enough for regular lure fishing to. 
 

the new sustain is black and gold has 8+1 ball bearings and basically is a slight upgrade from the vanford has all the new silent drive and mirco module And the rest of new technology’s found in the new Stradic/vanford range . It’s basically like when the Stradic FK and Stradic Ci4+FB came out the sustain come out .slightly better then the Stradic series it’s the same case here with the new Stradic/vanford range although it’s a big upgrade from the 2016 models .

and finally Shimano brought out another spheros and exsence which I don’t know much about but I assume they are similar reels to their older model just with all the new tech and maybe a added ball bearing or weight reduction or maybe more seals or water protection 

Later this arvo/night  Shimano are releasing new gear fortunately for me I know Japan already done a release on their gear and I already the know the 4 spinning reels that will be coming to stores in Australia soon .

The old Stradic ci4 is getting fairly cheap now been seeing a few around $200-$240 but there’s ones are even cheaper 

 The greatest session Ive had and also the biggest fish I’ve managed to land will never forget that day

Yeah a 3000 should fit perfectly I have a Shimano Stradic ci4+FB 2500 on mine but my 2500 size shimano is on the lighter side and the rod can definitely handle a heavier reel

Yes if you can get a hold of that one that should be perfect for your needs that’s the 2pc model the 2 in 270m stands for 2 piece the 70 stands for 7 foot and ML stands for medium light 6-14lb but yeah sometimes you have to wait a few days because the rods are quite popular now

Did get a few but they weren’t as big as the ones you got for this comp so I didn’t enter them I got a few silver trevs today which put a good fight I would have put them up for the Comp but they were just legel 29-30cm so I put them back the first one I got though was so big I couldn’t control it and it just went into the rocks and weed and couldn’t get it out 

36cm ocean garfish not to be confused with pike or needlefish it is a actual garfish .caught on unweight bread off a breakwall in nsw . This fish is for category 13

For the price your better off getting a shimano raider or daiwa TD hyper the ugly stik carbon rods feel ok but for the price of $130-$140 it simply isn’t worth it when daiwa shimano and many other brands are ahead in the game for light-medium carbon/graphite spinning rods .at this price point I’d highly recommend you check out the atomic arrowz estuary 6-12lb model great rod for around the same price but cheaper or a bit more expensive depending where you get it from . it’s a 3-5kg rod 7 foot graphite rod that is great for on breakwalls or jetties can definitely handle some big fish great with lures and baits light and sensitive but has a nice strong backbone you can choose a between a 2pc or a 1pc model . Hope that helps

Cooktown jettie/wharf at night there is plenty of Barra .I lost a lot of big fish there and I’m certain atleast one of them big fish was a Barra the people I’d go fishing with had live bait setups and caught plenty of Barra close to a metre I lost a few giants on plastics and a few giants on bait to. And in the river you can get decent Barra and jacks to just watch out for crocs plenty of big cod queenfish GT’s and Mack’s around the wharf to. Cooktown is actually pretty underrated and not over fished would recommend going there I found cairns to be good . But cairns was a little overfished in my opinion to same with Townsville

Was trying out a rod @GregOuggave me for the second time - she fought a real good fight but in the end lost the battle.
