Went out to the fads on friday, just took some time to write a report.  Got to the ramp at about 5:40 and headed out to get some livies.  picked up about 12 in about 30 minutes so headed out, on the way out we ran over a huge bomby and put a mark on it (Foreshadowing) and continuted out to the Fad 6.  after bludging out way through the swell we finally had it in sight, and what do you know there is a massive school of mahi mahi.  The rush to put out a live bait resulted in a circle hook through my thumb that was not fun to pull out as it went well past the barb in but we carried on. after about 1 hour of not catching we hooked one on a subiki on a 2-4kg bream raider.  then it was just fish after fish.  we boated about 9 or 10 and kept 5 for a good feed.  on the way back in we stopped back the the big bomby we ran over, dropped a squidtrex down on it (about 50 or so metres) and after a few drifts and a couple coral trout (undersize), i hit a brick wall, about 25 metres down on a fast jig up, it took off, peeling line and heading to the bottom, i put the hurt on it with my saltiga and grappler combo and got it to the surface where it took off about 100-150 metres across the surface; after about 10-15 minutes dad gaffed the mighty cobia, it ended up going just over a metre and 8kg.  we decided to take it but relised that we had taken a bit to much fish so off to my mates house to drop off 2 dollies, (gave them to this mate because he and his family really apreciates fish and respects it).  got some really nice fillets of them, all of the dollies were 60-70cm

Hey @Hweebe, this issue was raised by @Luc53 in June, I think most people have just made peace with it, but now that there’s no photos, I fear the natives are getting restless 

Wow, been a while since pics showed!??  Think the tech guys should get this fixed sooner rather than later.  Pics or it didn't happen 😸...

The boys came up for a few days on Friday and the moons and stars aligned so we head down to Mission Beach to make the  must of a rare weather window in winter up here.  
We started the day battling with Bludger Trevally, chinamen, spangled emperors and of course sharks , so by lunch after a 4 o’clock start we had little to show for it.  Jacob learnt the hard way about having Two baits down at once getting a double of nearly 1m bludgers on, it nearly pulled  him out if the boat. He handed the rod to Declan and he managed to get them up. With the fight  we where hoping for a legendary Red. 
We kept working and looking for ground and started to pick up a fish or two at each spot before the sharks shut us down. You really have to drag these fish up, any delay and the Taxman takes it all 
Jacob hooked up to a big Nanny and handed off to Declan to skull drag it up, to be followed up by a 4 metre hammerhead who was not happy Declan beat him and then swam around the boat for a couple of minutes giving us the stink eye. 
We hit the final spot on dusk and managed some red throat and trout in shallower water but even there we struggled with the sharks and head in earlier which was good with it blowing up. Very lucky to get out with the boys this time of year.

Blackfish are a lot of fun to catch.
Setting up the rig is a pain.
Some of them fight really hard
The best one's to catch are 31 to 35 cm. Any bigger & they don't taste as nice. ( IMO )

Ended up with 6.  32 to 35cm.

40+ achieved plenty of times thanks.... Only once in the presence of @Kat however.... Rarely does she share....😜

nice work @Kat.  Will have to go and try some of my whiting haunts in coming weeks/months to see if I can crack the 40cm mark.
Fun fact - @ellicat has NEVER achieved 40+, but he has watched me do it in his presence 3 times.  maybe him and @Bretto77 should hang out? 🤣

Come on Brian, don't be like that. If @Kat is willing to thaw it out, drive to the same spot and replicate the scene, I say well done to her ........... 🤪.

Responding to my own post... Not quite a year, 1 cm smaller but still a great catch.  This one was almost dead low tide just after dusk.  Same spot X.

Let’s just say I’m poaching a few of the northsiders fish that they couldn’t catch! 
 

For anyone still trying to get a refund from Dean, I'm filing with QCAT. Not sure how it will turn out but if I can at least get him to court that would be a start.

Excellent guys . >40cm are quality fish.
