Hi guys Rice here, just here to ask if anyone's had experience fishing Wynnum foreshore/Creek

Went for a flick there a few times with my mate on the Wynnum Creek breakwall during the outgoing tide, never had much luck; in fact we didn't catch anything yesterday even though it was purported to be an "excellent" day as well and there were plenty of bait fish around

Anyway, I'm hoping that the lack of fish is due to my inexperience and not because the creek is dead. The jetty can get quite busy so it's nice to have a close-by alternative  🙂

ok, i know this is not as helpful as you would have liked but, on Sunday at my rugby game at Wynnum, (the fields are right on the water) it was low tide and when i ran on the mud flats to get the ball (not a good idea in rugby boots) i saw a few big flatty holes/outlines that looked promising, had to leave straight away so did not have a chance for a flick but would have loved to.

ill try and find a map of the area and post it.

I have nothing to add other than the barra that I have had were fed on dry food and believe it or not, fresh cooked prawns.

I found that live food cause them to do silly things in small places trying to catch them

Probably how he cut his head, not only that, they get real aggressive.

    Mine were like dogs.

They knew that it was dinner time when the prawns came out.

Yabbies can pick on fish too, so be careful there.

I'd catch shrimp for the micro cleaning.

    Don't over think it.

Just keep him warm in winter.

He is kind of like a dog, he eats out of my hand, knows that when I pick up the net that I’m getting him food and gets all excited head out of water waiting, and best of all he stares at my sister and judges her.  Really a site to see.

What are you feeding it on ?

He gets feeder fish (live), and some shrimp every now and again (also the yabby food that I chuck in for the yabby)

  4. So I have a pet Barra, he’s about 1 year old and and 15 cm.  He’s a bit small for his age I know, but just had a few questions about him, is it normal for him to gulp up a heap of rocks then spit them out.  Also he cut himself on the head the other day and was just wondering if there is anything to do to help heal it quicker (the tank also has a ton of salt in for him)

I wonder if you could put a "Private land -All trespassers will be prosecuted" sign at the entrance or on both sides of the creek/river, or will this be another legal can of worms? It could be enough of a deterrent for most people to keep out even if it wasn't legally enforceable.

like said there if you just walk up the bank placing signs saying there are cameras or place fake cameras would be a good deterrent, although make sure it is on your property that you place them or you could be the one in legal trouble.

It is awesome up there, use to live there, best place to launch is shut harbour and go out past long island and this time of year you will get tuna, spanish (if your lucky), and Huge 1.2m+ GT's around the reefs.  make sure you check your drag tho, because i have lost tons of braid to the fish.  be careful of the sharks as they are everywhere.  if you go around the islands close to the harbour and catch a small fish make a cawh cawh sound (like a sea eagle) and a big bird might fly over to get your fish when you throw it.

    good luck up there.
