No, not yet. She wouldn't start, just made a whirring noise. Hoping it's just a battery or a starter motor issue and nothing dire. She's got an appointment with the doctors on Wednesday.

Could have it been the switch on the throttle that turns off the motor if you fall over or overboard (kill switch I think it is called)

    Hi Legends

@GregOugand I headed out for a session on Tuesday.  Launched about 7.15 sounded out a couple of spots on the way, marked for later exploration.

Arrived at Greg's spot X - the plan was to target Blackspot Tuskies.  We were armed with various baits including sand crab.

I landed the first fish first cast, an undersized cod of some sort - either Maori Cod or Honeycomb Cod.  No pic cause wanted to get straight back down.

Shortly after I hooked up to something that gave me a fair fight and had a bit of weight to it.  At first in my head I was thinking shark - as has been my luck in the bay lately.  After a few runs and me praying my hooks didn't pull I (Greg with the net) landed a 66cm MILF. Absolutely stoked - best fish in the bay for a long long time.

Pretty sure on my third cast I landed another, my first ever legal sized tuskie (not Blackspot) - think it was 34cmm.  Was really looking forward to the taste test though!!!

Shortly after Greg landed a decent sized flounder and then a legal tuskie - over legal just enough to allow for shrinkage if fisheries questioned him again 😸.

Unfortunately this was not long before the bottom of the tide and then the dreaded whiptails moved in!  They were picking out the crab meat and absolutely decimating the cuttlefish.  I think I hate these things more than sharks/wobbegongs and grinners!

Sick of re-baiting every 2 minutes we headed off to the earlier discovered spot only to deal with whiptails once again 😠. Headed back to spot X once there was some more run -  no joy - just whiptail after whiptail.....

Trolled on way back to ramp in hope of a mackerel etc - again no joy.

Beautiful enjoyable day on the bay!  Thanks mate!

Added bonus, Greg's chef mate, Mario filleted the fish while I was cleaning the boat 😘

Pics: excuse the ruler pic - Mario took it while I was cleaning 🤣

In a time when everything is either a reboot or a sequel, i'm back with my second Boggy Creek report.

First, the bad news - on Friday i was down there casting from the bank and not having much luck and had just lost the zerek soft plastic shrimp i'd bought the previous weekend when i decided to go for broke and use the fish trap lure and hooked onto what i thought was a big fish. i struggled with it for a bit before it went out into the middle of the creek and just sat at the bottom. i wasnt sure how to go about it as it felt being snagged and i was only on a light setup. i tried my best at reeling and when i felt it move slightly i made the mistake of ripping up and sure enough snapped the top of my rod off 😪

After a trip to the tackle warehouse in coorparoo the next day, i picked up a new rod and reel and headed down to Boggy again to hopefully make up for the previous outing and find out what did the damage to my rod.

My mate and I got down there just after 9am and planned to fish the incoming tide until 12-1. Both of us were using the 1/2 oz jigs with the 3" zman minnowz and just casted from the bank until at about 10:30am my mate managed to hook on to this nice flathead:

Then about half an hour later I got lucky as well and hooked onto this one:

At 56cm it was a personal best for me so i was pretty stoked, anything after this would just be a bonus

Unfortunately though i lost another flathead right at the bank about an hour later and that was all i could manage for the rest of the day.

Right before we were about to call it a day, we spotted the culprit from yesterday as it came right up to us at the bank.... a big stingray 😂 so maybe it was better i lost the rod as i have no experience dealing with those.

All in all, a good day out and was happy to make up for disappointing Friday!

PS - what do you guys think i could catch if i headed further up the creek? i've been told there could be threadfin, jewies and the occasional jack but i have no idea

    Cheers guys

Nice brag mat you got there.

    Yeah, that'd wreck your day.

Would love to know the psychology of the incidents.

Are they attacking, protecting or drunk on some sort of jelly fish or something?

When i was in the Whitsundays a mother whale and a calf came up to the boat and the mother started tail slapping right at the boat.  these whales could have been protecting their young and the boat is just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The little time I had between working out the sounders power issues and the electric motor issues I managed to get a golden trevally and and a Mack tuna, a checklist will be a must next time for sure along with testing everything before the boat leaves the shed!

Sounds like fun, i use to live in Arlie Beach, great area out there all the way to Mackay, all of the small reefs will hold big gt if thats the sought of fishing your into, just be careful of the sharks, had them chase fish all the way to the boat.

id imagine you mean at casting at tuna? not trolling or anything like that

i would think an 8000 would be more than sufficient. having said that, ive never chased the likes of big kings in the bay. i think the smaller reel would allow for more uses.

Yes casting for tuna, thanks for the advice, ill have a look at rods to match.

  7. Hi, i've been thinking of getting a heavy spin reel and rod have i have saved up quite a bit from working and have both a light and medium rod and reel, i have been looking at the Shimano Saragosa SW A 8000 HG Spin Reel and the Shimano Stradic SW 10000HG Spinning Reel, both have good reviews and are a decent price.  They would be used for tuna, jigging and other types of fishing like that, i would just like to know what rod i should pair it with and if the 10000 is a bit overkill for out in Moreton bay and the surrounding areas.  All comments welcome.

    Cheers Daniel

finally got around to using my gift voucher for a Noosa offshore charter. although earlier in the week the weather looked perfect, the wind and rain turned up on Sunday morning. I must have caught 20+ pearlies, a few undersized Maori cod and 10 small reds. came home with 2 legal pearlies which turned into a great feed for the family. all in all it was just good to get out and into some fish!

    was that a deepseafishingco charter?
