Tuna are fish got a reaction from charlie.hans.fishing in is the formula 233 boats was really good are they really good boats in future im getting one with say twin evinrude 150s both motor's will lbe on 50;1 premix as I prefer to disable the oil injection on both motor's when boat is was im getting in future
Running a disabled oil injection would be a safer way to go with the older outboards if you dont trust the oil injection, but would you have issues with the mixing of the fuel as the oil could not mix properly with the fuel having the fuel tank under the floor or is this not an issue?  And also 2 old Evinrude 150s would drain the fuel would it not as they are older model 2 strokes?

Me and my dad are planning some more adventurous trips out in the boat and the JetSkis (eg Moreton run, offshore goldcoast).
What type of radios do you guys use? We have a waterproof gme vhf and two waterproof uhf radios. What channels do you use? I haven’t done my vhf licence but I’m guessing it would be worth bringing it with in case of emergencies.
    cheers Thorbjörn

If you plan to use your VHF radio - Yes you need to do a marine radio course to use a VHF radio.
Use channel 16 in an emergency.
Use Channel 16 or 73 for Manly Coast Guard
Use Channel 16 or 67 or 73 for the Seaway Tower Gold Coast
Use 68 or 72 for Rec Boating activity.

Tuna are fish reacted to MattInOz in what makes an anchor size what it is?
    Hey guys.
So when I bought my boat I noticed that my anchor (danforth/fluke) looked about exactly the right size to keep a jetski in place. Apparently I need a 4kg/8lb anchor for my 4.35m boat and I found one going cheap on gumtree, but the vendor doesn't know what size it is and it doesn't appear to be stamped onto it. He says it "might be an 8lb or 10lb" and he thinks it weighs about 3.5kg... so how does one tell what size an anchor is? Can you just weigh it, or does the weight reference refer to something else? Is it the physical dimensions that define it?
Yes, apparently size does matter. Too big and it won't fit in the hole, and too small and it'll be useless. Sounds familiar. 🙂

Not sure whether I will run it on a Millerods OneFreak or maybe but a longer 7 foot swimbait rod.  Picked up a 7 foot ACM custom on a 10-17lb North Fork blank and its sweet.  Never thought I would like a bait caster that long but it so nice to cast.

    Hi Guys,
Hit the Broadwater again on Saturday arvo on the top of the tide to chase some squid. Few boats at the first spot but nobody catching so moved after 20mions to a new spot.
2 on the first drift and hits or squid on each drift after.
    Ended up with 6.
3 more dropped beside the boat by my slow to react deckie and about another 6 dropped during the retrieve.
Good steady session and lots of fun.
My salt & pepper squid stir fry was great. Left the lips numb and the eyeballs sweating.

Do not forget to check the auctions either.
Some bargains go through the gates sometimes.
A mate a few years back got a nice tinny from the one at Hamilton. Can't remember the name but it's the big one in near Macarthur Ave.
    You never know.

Fresh off the drier is a Snyder Glas blank I salvaged from a local rod builder. At 7’6 it is likely an FMT90 but with no model number on the butt one can’t be positive. I built it for a mate to chase reefies in the bay with a baitrunner 4500b and 6kg mono. He chose the pink and white colour scheme and I added the grey to match the grips and blank but didn’t realise it shared its colour scheme with Alf Stewart’s favourite bird. Early bird gets the bay reefies I guess!

Tuna are fish reacted to MattInOz in Introduction and some noob questions.
Hi people. After 58 years I finally decided to get a boat so I swapped my bike for a 4.3m runabout with a 40hp 2 stroke Mercury. While I've never owned a boat myself I've spent a fair bit of time on them... from fishing on my stepfather's boat when I was younger to spending several years working as a SCUBA instructor on diveboats. I've also done a lot of car mechanics and electrics, so I'm not scared of getting my hands dirty.
The boat I ended up with is about 20 years old and of course it's had technology added and taken away over the years and the wiring's a bit of a mess so I'm rewiring it, and eventually will upgrade it to a dual battery system. Currently everything seems to be fused, but they're all in-line fuses hidden behind bulkheads etc so I'm replacing them with a real fusebox with a negative bus bar (I'm aware of not using the hull as a return earth). The boat currently has a battery box with a kill switch and a 65A breaker, and a switch panel with six switches, but by the time I add a few bits and pieces I'll have more appliances than switches. So my question is do I need panel switches for appliances that have their own on/off switches such as the VHF radio, am/fm radio, etc, or can I just wire the devices directly to the fuse box and turn them on at the device the way you might with a car? I'm happy enough to buy a bigger switch panel if I need to, but if I can avoid the cost I will.
While I'm at it, compasses... the boat doesn't have one unlike every boat I've had anything to do with in the past. It does have a sounder (a Lowrance Elite 7ti) which has a GPS function, does this replace a compass or should I still have one as a backup? I!m not planning on crossing bars into open ocean, just messing about in Moreton Bay or Pumicestone Passage, visiting a few of the islands etc.
Oh also... the sounder apparently can connect to the VHF radio via NMEA 0183 if I get the uprated power cable... is this something worth spending the money on?
Thanks in advance for any info.
    Matt

I found a driver and a matching 4 wood  both with graphite shafts at the markets on Sunday. At $4 each , bargain I thought  , Took the heads off and converted them into a couple of small gaffs . Used a couple of big old  chemically sharpened shark hooks for the hooks.

Finished the kingy rod for my mate Ash. He’s in Newcastle so it’s coming into kingfish time for him. This rod will primarily fish livies and chuck stickbaits if required. Matched to a Saragosa 10k and 50lb braid.

I estimate I spent 10 hours on this rod. I can usually whack them out in 3-4 but this took a bit extra - double over wrapped guides, marbling, chevron wrap. 4 coats of epoxy. Hopefully he won’t need another one!

Went out with a mate to scout around a new property we just got access to. It goes from the hills right down to the water, so I've got a private boat launch for a out of the way section of the lake, and I've got ducks and a lot of deer too.
Apparently there's some big cod hanging around as well along with trout.
Looks like my freezer is always going to be full and I've got a new potential fishing hot spot.

Tuna are fish reacted to Doughnuts in Walking the flats
    Hi All,
With a couple good weather windows this weekend I decided to go for a fish. Unfortunately I couldn't get out in the bay so I decided to go for a stroll down the local flicking plastics for flatties. At the beginning the fish were very timid, but after hitting every drain n ledge I could find, the fish started to play the game with a couple surprises chucked in. I started to get a couple of very small flatties which i like to call encouragement awards, but then I found a few slightly larger models. Ended up with 10 Flathead with six of them ranging between 47cm up to 62cm and this was all in about 3 hours. In between the commotion of the flatties I hooked something that hit harder and was fighting a bit different, to my surprise it ended up being a giant (little) herring which went 52cm. Pretty stoked with that as it was my first one. I was just about to leave and on my last cast I felt weight but it wasn't really fighting. When I got it to the surface, it turned out to be a rather large sandy which I dragged up the bank and popped straight into the esky. As I explained to my mate it takes someone with extreme skill to feel a hit on a plastic from a sandy and even greater skill to hook and land it. He promptly responded with it takes someone who is extremely full of...  (u can fill in the blank) to jag a crab on a plastic. As this is my first report, I hope you all enjoy.!

    What hull did you buy?
I suggest your maiden run should be to the Brisbane Port outer wall....that way you will get a taste of how the weather affects the boat whilst still being in a fairly populated area in case you need somebody around. Aim for 10 to 15 knots for this run just to get to know your boat more than anything. I wouldn't venture past Mud Island on the maiden voyage unless it is quite calm. You need to prove seaworthiness and reliability to yourself before a big run.
