  1. Thanks Jono, same with you - We will be fishing more around the brisbane area for them.
  2. Cool, sounds like a nice piece of gear - thanks.
  3. What is the name of the new type of rod?
  4. Great work Bob. Those are some nice sized trout.
  5. Bit of a late reply to this post - nice work Dino. Will hopefully be heading out this weekend in hopes of getting onto some.
  6. To prove this i've noticed that casting lures with my 8lb braid that is 8 strand casts up to 5-10m further with the same lure on a 12lb 4 strand setup.
  7. As everyone has said - full spool, lure quality, thin leader knots, thinnest braid possible, casting type, and leader length all affect your casting distance and ability.
  8. Nice work Hamish and Thorbjorn! Seemed like a decent session. How did the jewie taste?
  9. Hi Misha, thanks a lot for your response! I see - main reason I wanted it fixed was so that I didn't get any snap offs. Sorry for my ignorance, I was unaware you weren't nearby. Thanks for the help though, Misha. - Charlie
  10. Hi @Sylvathorn. Nice work on your recent rod repairs. I'm not sure what your process is in terms of taking clients, but I was wondering if you would potentially be able to fix one of mine, please? I have a question about one of my own rods that could do with some repair: I don't remember the exact model but its an older, basic Shimano Sonic rod, I think around 3-5kg, which I used for bait fishing with my dad when I was younger. It's been in storage for a while, and when I got back into fishing, the guides were split and their ceramic had cracked and gone missing. I assume this would call for complete guide replacement. Would you please be able to quote/get an estimated cost for this sort of repair? (I think its only 2 guides that are broken). Since the rod is already not the most expensive, whether or not I go with the repair will depend on the cost of repair VS the value of the rod. Cheers, Charlie
  11. Nice report Hamish. Hopefully you get onto some threadies soon. Good work on getting out, though. Nice Luderick in the cast net.
  12. Sounds like a good session, happy to hear you got onto a few.
  13. Although a 2000's child I do know what it is. I remember we used to get some woodworking and framing done by a man in Paddington and he lived in his shop. On his little kitchen table he would always have a tin of powdered milk.
  14. Good report Hamish. It's a shame you didn't get onto the jew. There's always next time!
  15. Thanks, and I agree. It's my go to small paddletail.
  16. EDIT: I made a typo with the jighead weight that doesn't make sense I meant 1/16th, not 1/6th - most of you would have figured though I'm sure
  17. The big main one . We didn't fish in the actual marina, access is blocked to members only of course. There's some public spots connected to the marina that you can easily find though.
  18. Hi all. Here's another quick report from yesterday's landbased lure session at Manly. Only had a few hours to fish so I micro jigged some plastics in the deeper water around the pylons in hopes of a trevally. Used small grub profile lures. The wind was horrendous and it would have been a very uncomfortable day if you were out in the bay; I had to switch from a 1/6th to a 1/8th just to cast 5 metres in front of me. It was blowing almost 19 knots and there was white caps all around. Fortunately the marina provided some shelter and it wasn't as bad as being out in the open. A kid next to me hooked up to a 35cm or so GT on similar profile plastics out from the pylons but dropped it at the surface. Apparently him and his mate had already caught a few little trevs on plastics and bream on bread baits before I arrived. Tried to get a cool photo of 30 or so BIG bream feeding on seaweed/oysters stuck around the marina pontoons but I could only pick them up with my polarized sunnies and they spooked easily after getting a cast in at them. Ended up switching spots and fished a beachy area. Managed a little trev on a slim swimz and oddly, 4 micro whiting. Casted in towards the boat hulls and hopped the lures back out. No size.
