Hey @Bretto77,Β yes mate a livie...
A humble yabbie in less than a metre lol
Good job. I got one a few years back that only just busted the 40 mark on a very small live mullet Under a float in about the same depth. Well done.

@benno573 is that a spotted grunter? It's a cracker regardless

That's a cracker bream. I had to do a double take and check I wasn't imagining things... Live bait?

Well, I could not find any live bait so had to rely on cuttlefish to do the trick. Managed 4 grassies 32 to 40cm. Due to some snags, I was down two rods/rigs after I got sick of retying leaders. I went to my flathead outfit with 10lb braid on a 2500 reel.
Deployed that a few times with a lazy 2 ball sinker on top of a 5/0 circle. When it hit it ran and ran. I was down to my backing and it was fast approaching terminal status when it slowed and was able to get some line back. A big "Phew" when braid started winding around the spool. Tense moments.
I was confident it was a good snap from the start and had confirmation as it got close with the bait way up the line. Then I saw the shine in the water. Managed to net him without any trouble which was what I was fearing.
Proud to have knocked the master @AllnighterΒ out of first place in the comp. haha Like you said @Bretto77, I expect to be knocked out of that position soon enough.
Ended up fishing lighter and got the attention and the result in the end I would be feeling chuffed to post that success. The feed of grassies on top... You will be popular on the home front. Great job. I did say to @Kat "I bet your glad you left that one for Brian" .Β

I always found that live bait tends to sift out some smaller stuff. All the others that have made points have made valid points. The only other things that I could add is go fishing whenever you can and/or feel like it. Keep a record of things. @AUS-BNE-FISHO has been diligent with this with better tools than I had when I was his age.

Well done on the snapper Brian. Cracker fish Something in my tummy is telling me however that your photo is like a virtual live bait forΒ anΒ @Allnighter

The fire issue (although generally statistically low) concerns me with lithium batteries. I don't think I would like to be sitting on top of one in an enclosed space if something went wrong. I would keep any batteries under bonnet or somehow external.
That said I drove a 95 model sierra for years when I was young. Bought it brand new and it never let me down. Wow, the places that you can get one of those things. Suzuki will have improved on that now because they don't do crap. I trust you will be impressed with the reliability and the places that you can get to in the jimny

I have a science background that is blended with hands on, and I come from a family of teachers. I have not read old mate's entire report, only the bits that were reported in the article above. That means my understanding of his report is limited. @mangajack, @JunkyΒ and @Bob9863Β all make valid considerations and points. I straight away question limits, definitions and parameters of the study (for which i would need to read the complete report).
Don't get me wrong, I am all for supporting and maintaining aquatic systems for the future. It does seem these days however like it's a little too easy for actual science to be overrun by funded political agenda, which is sad and ultimately disfunctional.

I like to overlay the real time wind recording over the predicted. To get a glimpse of how close on average the recent forecast has been. It is worth considering however that if the actual readings are not taken very close to the forecast location things can be very different. For example in my experience the willy weather forecast for paradise point has been relatively accurate in the past but when you overlay the real time wind (taken at gc seaway) things look different. So to get an idea of how accurate the recent forecast has been you have to look at gc seaway forecast.
In this case I reckon inner beacon is on average just a fraction higher (overall average) than the Tangalooma forecast.
Looks like you have a window there. You're not in a 3m tinny. Go early. The team north leaderboard is callingΒ

It would be easier to name what aquatic animal and insect a trout would not eat...
Frogs would be a very common snack.
I have seen them slurp down skinks swimming across creeks a few times as well.
I have seen a snake headed gudgeon eat a gecko off the top of an aquarium. Was swimming around with the head still sticking out of it's mouth for a good six hours before it actually swallowed the whole thing.

That's a modern interpretation of a hand line... Careful you don't end up with a dislocated finger too from a sticky drag...
