  1. Warm up for prawns via fishing for turkey's?
  2. Just when I thought it must be gone. It turned up yesterday. Chased my black chook over the fence this morning, (and I think into the mouth of the neighbour's dog). Can't find the chook. Hasn't come back... Not feeling much sympathy for the turkey's cause.
  3. I think Doug burt runs by a concurrent general rule also for whiting. Rarely are we able to sneak a trip in and choose our preferred parameters, but that's life at the moment. We had another gent senior to us on board and the entertainment value of the trip overall was great. Maybe we were laughing too hard and loud at the boating shenanigans of coombabah Creek? Maybe it was crappy tides etc, but we laughed a lot so all is good
  4. Coombabah.... Was very quiet last night. We quit by 8pm. Couldn't get good worms. No difference between the worms we had and yabbies. They all caught stingrays...
  5. Not so ouch really @ellicat.... We ended up leaving the 40+ models alone... In fact we left all models alone
  6. Fishing used to creep into my procrastination program when I was at school too ... Always good to sneak in a break from study around exam time
  7. Welcome to the forum. You will be coming out of a uk winter into a Brisbane winter.... Probably not a bad acclimatising tactic....
  8. I'm still working @Angry51.... So you will be ok...
  9. Looks like you left all the 40+ models too so we should be ok
  10. Some good sessions there Brian It's been a fishing drought for @Kat and myself. Looking at a session tomorrow afternoon/ evening down the coast after dropping the kids back. Hopefully you left some whiting down there for us
  11. Water holds less oxygen with elevated temperature. If you add high numbers of algae and bacteria to the equation then dissolved oxygen levels can get very low, particularly just before dawn.
  12. And, if anyone has ever seen a scrub turkey chick up close then they will understand why not even their mother can love them.
  13. Yes, don't have a dog at the moment. The neighbors do however and touch wood again, I still have not seen the turkey since it slipped out of the net and into the neighbors yard.
  14. You are certainly dedicated to gaining knowledge on impoundment ecosystems. Respect, I felt cold at home today
  15. The chooks can be locked up. Touch wood, haven't seen the turkey since it went into one of the neighbors yards yesterday. Maybe someone else or their dog has dealt with it.
  16. Re the front boarding ladder.... I can assure you that ribs can break if there's an over bow boarding technique failure...
  17. I know about the mesh trick. I want to get rid of it and not have to resort to that if possible. I usually go pretty good with a cast net but this bugger moves so fast and ducked under the far side of the net...
  18. I was once responsible for the grounds of an aged care facility on a 53 acre block. When I started there it was run down and neglected. It was a daunting prospect (as I was the only groundsman), but I hooked in and 18 months on had the place looking pretty good. Then came a scrub turkey migration. They made my life hell. Many elderly folks take great pride in their gardens and don't appreciate a bird trashing and composting their efforts. I did 8 years there before I went mad and left. Moved on and left the turkeys to it. No more turkeys. After seven or so years sober of the problem, two days ago I got a very unwelcome blast from the past. A large male scrub turkey decided that my place was suitable. I have had to lock up the chooks cause this thing is trying to kill them. It's even put the breeze up the cat (currently rallying the cat and trying to reprogram the kill function). Has anyone ever had any success with dissuading these birds without extermination? I have respect for their determination but it's not outweighing the desire to rip it's head off.
  19. My fingers are fine but I have to take the step into glasses.... Particularly bad is at night under led light for me.
  20. I am no connoisseur of knots. I only ever learned enough to get by and didn't bother with anything too flash. Allbright or even Alberto knot will do the job in that situation I think.
