  1. I know about the mesh trick. I want to get rid of it and not have to resort to that if possible. I usually go pretty good with a cast net but this bugger moves so fast and ducked under the far side of the net...
  2. I was once responsible for the grounds of an aged care facility on a 53 acre block. When I started there it was run down and neglected. It was a daunting prospect (as I was the only groundsman), but I hooked in and 18 months on had the place looking pretty good. Then came a scrub turkey migration. They made my life hell. Many elderly folks take great pride in their gardens and don't appreciate a bird trashing and composting their efforts. I did 8 years there before I went mad and left. Moved on and left the turkeys to it. No more turkeys. After seven or so years sober of the problem, two days ago I got a very unwelcome blast from the past. A large male scrub turkey decided that my place was suitable. I have had to lock up the chooks cause this thing is trying to kill them. It's even put the breeze up the cat (currently rallying the cat and trying to reprogram the kill function). Has anyone ever had any success with dissuading these birds without extermination? I have respect for their determination but it's not outweighing the desire to rip it's head off.
  3. My fingers are fine but I have to take the step into glasses.... Particularly bad is at night under led light for me.
  4. I am no connoisseur of knots. I only ever learned enough to get by and didn't bother with anything too flash. Allbright or even Alberto knot will do the job in that situation I think.
  5. I love Cooktown but wind is often a problem. Sounds like you got plenty of decent feeds for the right price without needing fish anyhow
  6. I have seen an injured bird disappear in a large "boof" off the surface downstream from there. That was two years ago and I put that down to a grouper.
  7. Me too.... What is wrong with tangible units of measure?
  8. Yep.... that's how it's done... Substitute snapper for stingrays and it's just like my last trip....
  9. So you have a school related engagement on the Saturday? Or are you delaying gratification by acknowledging the Saturday morning wake up as the true beginning of a new chapter?
  10. You finish on a Saturday? Or is that the first day you are available for Brian to take you fishing
  11. You're a champion of energy and perseverance Hamish. Well done
  12. Really nice set up. Did you say 0.3L/km? That's pretty good for a 140.
  13. $10 for 20g is $500/kg.... Our politicians don't come that cheap to the tax payer @Angry51
  14. Yes I know about the flats. I still want to spend a bit of time there one day. One of those spots I have always driven past.
  15. That's somewhere I have never fished but always wanted to. Hope it all goes well for you
  16. I drew my entertainment and fulfillment from "other" sources today. I had a good day, (but this is surmised from a ratings system which is likely vastly different to Brian's current one). Sounds like your electric behaved appropriately. That's good news too. I will have to resort to "some prepared earlier" for dinner tonight.
  17. Glad you two got out and got a great feed. Good job. Incidentally, we both finished our "chores" for the day at pretty much the same time.
  18. Apparently you have to keep the boat high in the water to be able to utilize the marina at cardwell too. It's a challenging area. When were you in Conn ck @Neil Stratford? There was a Barra farm there years ago.
  19. my editor is working on another beer related issue at the moment... She will be home shortly...
  20. No doubt either would likely be more desirable viewing than anything I am likely to capture tomorrow.
  21. I am backing you to bust right out of the "Bugger" experience and have plenty of available photos
