The current ANSA length record listed on their web site for Grass Sweetlip is 670mm . It was Caught off Bundaberg .This fish would have been measured correctly and a witnessed photo submitted as verification .
Yes I do record a photo of a good one that The Bakers sent me about a year ago,  caught off Double Island Point that Lachlan tagged  ,  I think it was bigger, but I didn’t save the photo. He must not have submitted it to ANSA. Next time I speak with Suntag or the Baker’s I’ll ask how big it was.
Just as a note , If a fish has a concave tail official  measurements are also taken to the fork , with the tail laying flat and naturally spread on the measuring device allowing for the total length to be taken accurately. This is how fisheries will measure your fish . Sometimes A few cm’s is gained by squeezing or contorting the tail.Fish such as Flathead and various Cod species with convex tails , total length is the only way and these can’t be made to appear  bigger. There’s always bigger fish out there , they just take time to find.

I've no scientific facts, but I recon is Learned behaviour and they know boats and boat noise make an easy feed.
I've seen this in remote spots over years where its not worth fishing them as the sharks vaporise your fish.

I'd be interested to hear Daryl's take on shark in QLD in general.

I know there has always been a lot of sharks in our waters due to it being a healthy environment, but I am convinced the numbers are multiplying, at an alarming rate.
I'm not tagging them but you don't have to, they're everywhere.
It's getting stupid up at D.I and further north to 1770. They're not huge, about 2m to 4m average size, and they are not scared, some playing like dolphins at the rear of the boat.  It's almost like seagulls around fish and chips. 2 fish in the boat and they're there smacking anything coming up, or being released.
It's heartbreaking to let a just under Red emperor go and have a grey shadow come and smash it as it tries to scurry back down.
It is also getting expensive, particularly when the lure caught fish are getting taken.

I believe Australian flake should be on the menu in fish and chip shops again.
I realise sharks have their place but I am starting to really dislike them atm.

    Set of 4/O gang hooks.

As for lures, they love the smaller halco twisty type metal slugs. 20g, 30g, and 40g.
    Cast a retrieve.

Well with Benno being a diligent worker we couldn't get out for the beaut forecast yesterday. So we made plans to get up early and beat the ramp-rage by departing from Bongaree ramp at 4.15am.
We had a plan to fish some ground (new to Ellicatch) on the bottom around the tide change and then go trolling some of the northern beacons inside Moreton. I think first cast we had a legal grassie in the box. Then it's all a bit of a blur with plenty of action. At one stage Benno threw a slug at a tuna bust-up for two hookups that let go.
I got a GoPro for Christmas and this was its maiden voyage. I need to get better as I forgot to do any recording when I had a fish on... first things first I guess. I did manage to hit the record button on @benno573 as he brought in a Maori cod, quite excitedly as it meant the Northside team would have an entry in the cod category at least.

20220126 Benno Maori.mp4 One for the Northside Team.

Like @GregOug, we landed 3 juvenile red emps that fight hard enough to think you've got something legal, so a bit disappointing but they're a good looking fish all the same.

Plenty of unders as well as whiptails (which proved to be prime chunked bait). Notable captures go to Benno, with a 50cm Grassie and a nice 35cm Tuskfish from Venus who must have crash landed recently. We kept a few grassies around the 40 mark as well as a few just over legal. Then the Lancers moved in which were initially used for strip baits but in the end were just annoying as they were eating their dead brothers, so we called it and headed for the beacons. On the way we trolled up two schoolies on the 2nd last 6 inch Yamashita trolling board. No more fish were boated and the weather had turned so we kicked on for home satisfied with a nice box.

I've been asking a few questions to ID some old lures I have from the 70's to the 90's on Lure Lovers forum. I thought there may be some interest here also, so I'll post some up as I learn what they are.
First one is from the early 70's and is a Flopy by Rublex of France. It's a rubber hollow one making it one of the early models, as they were made of solid rubber later on. Said to be a popular lure for targeting bass back in the day. Maybe @Dinodadog and @rayke1938 are familiar with them ??
