    Hey all!
last minute trip to Newport over the weekend with my brother which wasn’t a bad session. I threw around Ecogear bream prawns in the 40mm salt n pepper colour. Although used a cranka crab which im now a fan of! I landed my pb cod from the kayak which was good fun. Landed a few solid bream too. The cod was caught at the back of a pontoon close to shore in the shadows (pic below where you can see where the cranka crab landed)
The biggest bream was caught on the cranka crab on what was a really fast retrieve. I cast parallel to a pontoon but it was a rubbish cast so I just decided to retrieve in really fast and cast again, after a few winds and bang! This big bream hammered the lure, was pretty cool!

Hit up the Rous channel this morning with @Old Scaley to see if the mackerel were on. A bit of a choppy ride over from Manly with the wind against tide. The forecast was pretty good with sub 10 knots for much of the day. Plan was to get there earlyish and be back before lunch so we had time for a nap before the State of Origin game tonight.
We deployed our pillies on gangs under a float in the strong current and waited while we had some croissants for breakfast. Steve landed one of those little tailor that you know would make a great bait but you have to let them go. I was berleying hard, but nothing much was doing so Steve had a play with some metal on his other rod. Next thing you know he is on to something from down low and this 40cm cod came onboard -

Then Steve decides to put a dodgy looking pillie, meant for berley, on some gangs and fish the bottom with his new rod. Not expecting much I was surprised when his new rod buckled over. Early call of snapper, then maybe a ray, then it surfaced after a good fight. A 59cm Slatey
     -

I managed to get off the donut with an unders squire so put that rod away so as not to waist bait.
Things were once again slow and we said we'd get moving soon and have a fish at Harry's or Green on the way back. A few minutes later I got a hit on the mack rod which I didn't think was going to be much, but soon realised it was just swimming towards me. I tightened up the line and then it was on for all money. As it got close to the boat it went berserk and I lost it to a snipped leader. Bugger.
So now we knew they were about Steve got his new setup deployed and soon enough he got a hookup. A few run ins with the other rods in the holders and a brief tangle with first the slug hanging off his other rod and then my squid jig rod caused some anxious moments. Finally alongside I christened my new gaff and sank it into the quivering flesh of a tasty school mackerel. -

The tide had now turned and so had the boat, so a few extra shakes of the berley pot were made. Not long after, while Steve was measuring his mackerel, my float went down and again the fish swam towards me. As I got it close to the boat my line picked up Steve's line and a God Almighty mess of braid and leader ensued. At one stage Steve's knotted mess of braid was two runners down onto my rod. What a debacle ! As I couldn't wind my line in far enough, gaffing was proving difficult, so in the end Steve grabbed the leader and swung a nice 69cm schoolie into the boat. Finally I had a fish to take home.

The bay had glassed out a bit earlier but was now getting a few waves. We cleaned up the boat and headed for home, satisfied with a top morning's work and play.
Great conditions, great company and a great day to be out there.

    Howdy all,
This was from a trip a while ago but i never ended up doing a report for. i wanted to put the "go to" bream lures up to the test and started with the Ecogear bream prawn 40mm in the salt and pepper colour. Worked really well and is a very lazy style of fishing really. Cast against structure and let the un-weighted soft plastic sink slowly in front of the bream. Ended up with 5 bream, two of which were a decent size. My goal is to use the cranka crab next, see how that goes!
I put together a video for anyone who wants to watch.

I had a fantastic day taking my Favorite decky Tom and his dad Jason to NPD this morning. There was a fingerling release scheduled for 8.45 am and as we launched around 6am we did a few shrimp pots and tried to locate some fish before the release. The fishing was very slow with only 2 bass and one yella boated but at least Tom caught the first and largest bass before we returned to the ramp to collect a load of fingerlings.
Tom expertly released the fingerlings into the lily pads on the side of the dam where they should thrive.
We then headed downstream where we found a few schools of bass that kept Tom busy with Jason assisting. Jason hardly had time to drop his line in the water. It got a bit hectic when I was videoing Tom when both Jason and I also had a fish on.
Tom also had a first catching his first ever yellowbelly
We ended up with 30 bass and 2 yellas for the best day I have had on the dam since the last time I took Tom out. Tom caught 15 bass and one yella,
    Cheers Ray

Yes, I gained a new respect for the rocks when, at 43, @benno573 pushed me into a crevice at DI Pt. Luckily I got jammed by my hips and was able to make it out again (without help). haha....some of that may be stretching the truth but I did indeed fall and get wedged about a body length down.

Trip was great, weather perfect. The tax man took WAY TOO MANY of the best fish sadly but we got a few past them. Including this nice little Mangrove Jack.

Back over to Lake K yesterday in the yak, on the water early and off the water early. Bite was full on to start with, then stopped a bruptly around 8am back at the car by 8.30am. Still managed a good score of 38 bass.As I was putting the hobie in the water noticed I only had one and 3/4 finns, about 4 inches fell off one fin, must of perished. Over to hobie land after lunch, due to covid no stock so on waiting list, meantime put shorter finns on. As usual left a few dollars short, buying bits that was needed.
For everyones enjoyment I am off to get skewerd tomorrow from both ends,(colonoscopy and endoscopy)

Got an invite to head out with @GregOug, son Tom and @Kat on Saturday. The plan was to leave at gentleman's hours and suss out some marks Greg had been working on. So a bit of an explore and hope day.
The first couple of marks showed a small amount of structure but no fish holding so we moved on and around finding a lot of the spots were no secret, with boats already chancing their luck.
The bay was glassed out and at one of the vacant spots we tried, a solitary dolphin paid us a visit. Kat and Tom both got some footage of it taking Greg's food offerings. Interestingly it bumped away a frozen squid and a frozen pillie but was happy to eat the defrosted ones. I thought afterwards the dolphin was probably expecting us to feed it fish that we'd caught, so it either had misplaced confidence in us or there were fish around to be caught.
Hopefully @GregOug or @Kat can post their footage/pics.
We discovered some new ground towards the north of Moreton that looked promising but the weather turned on a five cent piece and the bay chopped up accordingly. We then trolled for a while without luck before the whitecaps appeared to our north so we decided to head for home. We stopped along the way at some nice looking bottom and had a quick drift and lost some bait but no hookups.
We crossed the Brisbane bar and it was as curly as I've seen it. We were surprised to see a small tinny heading out with two onboard. With the weather forecast to worsen it makes you wonder what it was that saw them taking such a risk.
It was my first outing with Greg on his boat. What a weapon it is. All those ponies at the ready make for an exhilarating ride. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. We had a good day and shared a lot of laughs and story telling to make up for the lack of fish. A top day on the water.
Thanks for the invite and company.

    Hi Everyone
I must say that having lived in Auckland almost all of my life so far and being a reasonably recent immigrant to Australia I am quite astounded by the generosity and spirit of you Aussies! I am having the most fantastic day I felt I must share it!
Had a great day fishing using live bait with a net I was given by an Aussie Bloke.  This was only possible because I had been hooked up intiially with like half price fishing gear by another Aussie bloke who knew a tackle shop owner who is also an Aussie.  You get the point.... Anyway  got given four great fishing books, a tackle box with various tackle and a scaler.  More tackle hooks, lures, soft and hard variety of jigheads, sinkers, swivels.  Two squid jigs, a reel.  This was all before today.  Today my brother was listening to my stories about being busted off and gave me another rod, reel heavier braid and leader and then just as an aside threw in a cast net.  My dad is posting me a Penn reel from NZ.  And this afternoon I was offered two deckie spots!
    Thank you to everyone!

A mate gave me some shrimp, so I took the neighbour up to Baroon yesterday. On a rare day we arrived to no fog, we could see where to go right away. Pushed off from the ramp and their was fish under us before I had the front lecy down, same as last time here. We baitfished a few then trolled through them for a few more. Headed off to next spot where we stayed for quite awhile getting double hookups, some small and some larger.
We then went for a tour around the dam picking up a few on the troll, before finishing up at the last spot for a few more on bait. Bruce was having a good day with the biggest bass at 49cm. I then picked up a nice 50cm, but didnt want to spoil his day so I spread the tail and called it for a 49cm and a draw. 74 bass all up and a nice cool day.
