  1. No need to apologise. I am always taking advice from people. I grew up on the tablelands but never fished these waters. I was really careful when I fished the Mowbray as I did not believe my mate. I think it is a good warning and discussion around this. You can not jump into a pristine looking stream and expect it to be free of crocs. Freshwater creek has several swimming holes below crystal cascades which are heavily used and on the day we where fishing. at the end of the day better to be safe and it is not worth it to catch a fish. Thanks for the advice and I will be way more careful
  2. That was nearly up at crystal cascades. But agree not worth it from now on. Locals where swim in in the pools around us.
  3. Thanks. Yeah the pics where we are wading are from freshwater creek where people are swimming in it for a few kms. It is funny we found we where picking them up in the rapids rather then the pools. So we started to focus there in the Freshy and did better. So different tl fishing for bass further south. Will stay out of the water from now on.
  4. Yeah that was the one I nearly stood on the one sunning itself on the bank. I was told it was crocs free but given the viewing platform is not far away we did not wade the creek apart from some shallow crossing. When we left and started walking back we encountered the council working and they mentioned a 4m croc sunning itself in the same area. I did not believe the mate anymore. The pics in the photos are well up Behana and Freshy
  5. Good stuff kelvin. Great memories with the kids. I have a set of vanes and spoons and never deployed them.
  6. Coming from a wet centre console to a dry Mclay cab you will not miss the open boats.
  7. It is what makes you happy at the end of the day. My reef combos now are around $1600, Shimano Talica reel and a Wilson venom rod. 10 years ago I started with $500 combos, shimano tyrnos reel and live fibre rods. Both catch fish. Some are light then others to use.
  8. Yes. Was pretty good on the chew as well. Similar to jack or nanny
  9. Not sure why he is happy. Bloody things sap all you energy for nothing. Yeah I think he will be making it a priority soon.
  10. There are crocs. These couple of streams are good. I fished a stream up near Port Douglas that a mate told was clear. I was careful and was getting over a log on the bank and nearly stood on a 2.5m croc. We watched it swim off.
  11. Quick report DHess popped up for a week with the kids at Easte. We head down to Mission Beach and up off Port Douglas/Cape Tribulation combined. Some glorious weather, some excellent fishing, some fun snorkelling and many many sharks.
  12. Yeah I have to say Jacob made it hard with it out of the water Didn’t Declan give it to me.
  13. When my boys were up in January we tried our hands at Jungle Perch fishing. To be honest, if we did not catch anything, the walk in the rainforest and wading the cool clear streams was enough in itself. We managed a couple, on most of the trips. No size though. When Declan flew home I did another trip with Jacob and we seemed to have worked it out better, picking up a few small fish on every reach of the stream. So Great you can pop around the corner and experience these things. “Paradise” IMG_2854.MOV IMG_2858.MOV IMG_2978.MOV
  14. Belated report. My boys came up to cairns in January to visit. Weather was not looking that great so we head down to Mission Beach for a few days to find some better conditions. My mission should I accept it, was to “get my sons onto some firsts and improve their PBs”. We fished 2 days and a morning before heading home. Conditions were ok but improved while we were there. First day we were a little lost and spent some time searching for ground and eventually got some location info off photo from a trip from the year before where we could start our search again. Found some awesome ground and some epic fish and of course some bloody sharks. Great trip and well worth the drive and accommodation costs. It really is fishing paradise. Species caught - Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Large Mouthed Nannygai, Red Throat Emperor and other species. IMG_2928.MOV IMG_2893.MOV IMG_2892.MOV
  15. I am about to start targeting them in the shallow reefs and also the deeper marks as i reckon some of the bait we see out deep may be squid
  16. Where are you fishing? What is your Boat? etc.
  17. I can imagine what it was like. They do not fair well when off the water. How was the motor, it cost me 2k to get mine back on the water. Did you paint the famous black and green colours again?
  18. I have often wondered where the location of the Brisbane Bar recording station was, so i looked it up today. It has always seemed to be out when it comes to the South Passage Bar and I now know why. It is Located not that far from Mud island. Not sure how they can call it a Bar though. So if you are looking at the tide times to cross the South Passage Bar, you should lookup the times for the SPB not the brisbane bar. https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Brisbane-Bar-Australia https://tides.willyweather.com.au/qld/brisbane/south-passage.html
  19. good stuff Henry - Do you have the same boat?
  20. Good Stuff Jon, Damo has not been as liberal with the photos this time. Will have to head up with you guys one time.
  21. Hi Brian - Have a look at this video from Victoria - it has some good advise regarding squiding deeper water and surveying an area.
  22. no size, but managed some justover snapper and pearlies pretty successful. The current was against him with the current and his jig weight.
  23. hahahaha for a minute there I thought you had caught one Brian.
