  1. So the new rules for marking your traps means no trap owner can take out a bunch of traps and set them and allow random deckies to pull them to get their crabs, redclaw or shrimp. Each person must have their own name and address on the traps and each person must only have a combination of 4 traps and must only pull their own traps. I am still waiting on fisheries for clarification on the legal possession limit for wild caught shrimp as the way this new legislation is written, it looks like a possession limit of only 20 shrimp per person is now in place. If this is the case, anyone buying bait shrimps must get a receipt or you will be in breach of these new regulations.
  2. Nothing has changed regarding the bag limit of 20 CRFF that is targeted at places like 1770. Snapper and Pearl Perch have always been extra species that you could catch on top of your 20 CRFF bag. The only real difference now if the boat limit for Snapper and the increase in size and smaller bag limit for Pearlies.
  3. 5 Bass in all impoundments now.
  4. Gee we see dozens every day Steve, they are fast becoming a real danger out there now with so many of them around.
  5. Just crank the drag up Robbie and pull them in. We normally release them as you need a decent chainsaw to rip the fillets off them.
  6. Yesterday while fishing out deep, the whales paid us a visit and put on a nice show. Language Warning !!!
  7. That is a very poor excuse Robbie, lol. In the past 3 weeks I have just done 2 days off Fraser, a day off Point Lookout, 5 days at 1770 and tomorrow going wide again for another 2 days deep dropping. You young blokes need to get your acts together, lol
  8. More fish for us Robbie, lol Now I gotta find another gourmet chef, very sad
  9. You can get your bait at this mark Jon It is 2.7 km off the bar. 27 07 702 S 151 54 066 E
  10. We went out deep again about 2 weeks ago and gave the reel a huge workout and again it never missed a beat. It was hauling up 2-3 cod most drops and it did it with ease although we did blow up the drag in one of our other electric reels due to the huge work load that both of the reels copped. The electric drag system seems to be holding up nicely and after we do a 2 day cod trip this week, I will bring the reel home for a full strip down and parts inspection to see how everything looks inside. Here is a short video of one of the drops we did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=946Kw0TVy8E
  11. This is my mates property that we will be staying at. We will not be in the unit shown in the pictures this trip as another mate has it booked but a massive shed which is bigger than most houses.
  12. Well done on your pb Spanish Steve. The conditions look pretty good out there too.

  14. That is not really an option Robbie as the reel spool has too much pressure when winding up with a high drag setting. The level wind mechanisms also need to be set up so hands and fingers cannot get caught up in them so belts or pulleys on the outside are no good. I do have a new idea which I think will work just nicely but again I will need to speak to an engineer to see if it is feasible and cost effective to try and build.
  15. The line lays reasonably good but still needs to be guided by hand a fair bit depending on what angle the pulley is laying. I will definitely add a level wind if I can work out a solution on how to drive it off the spool. I can drive it off the gearbox output shaft easily enough but then the level wind will keep moving when the spool is stopped or turning in reverse from a fish so that is not really suitable. Somehow I need to drive it off the spool's motion and that is creating a few headaches with design options.I do have a design in my head but whether is will be feasible to produce is something that I will need to talk to an engineer and my machinist about before I go too much further as it will mean a big change to the spool design and cad program.
  16. Thanks Kelvin. The rod is made from a special type of fiberglass. It is laid up in a way with special cloths under pressure, much like a fishing rod blank where the cloths are laid up in different directions to achieve maximum strength. Normal fiberglass will explode in your face and become very dangerous with possible shards of glass flying everywhere. I want to get a couple more made up in different thicknesses and then get a carbon fiber one made to see how it performs before i make a final decision on which one suits best.
  17. No worries Robbie. Hopefully version 2 will be a massive upgrade again.
  18. I forgot to update this post about the new reel. It has done 2 big trips to the deep grounds wide off Fraser Island over the past 2 weeks and it have performed absolutely amazing. It has ripped 2 big Makos up from the depths as well as a number of large Bar Cod and some 15kg plus Amberjack as well as other reef fish and sharks. I built a new flat rod for testing and it is amazing as well. I was hesitant in using it but it is the best thing I have ever tried so far when fishing the deep water. I have also built a lighter one for the shallower 100m line when chasing Snapper and Pearlies. I have already started work on version 2 which will be an automated version of this one but with a few handy extra features added. Anyway here is a short video of the first drop 2 weeks ago which was its first drop out in the real world. Make sure you watch it in HD.
  19. That's a nice nanny for down here Brad.
  20. http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/meteye/?loc=QLD_FA001
  21. Go to the bottom left of the page and click on Marine and Ocean Then click on Marine Wind Maps but make sure you have also selected QLD at the top of the page. Then click on the section of map that you wanted to get a more details wind forecast
  22. That's correct. Now place your cursor on the map where you want the forecast and left click your mouse. That will make a small window popup with the 7 day forecast. Below each day, click the Detail link to open that days forecast
  23. Can't you use your mouse to scroll in to the area that you want to look at. Once scrolled in, click on the map in that area and the screen should pop up with the weather details. Do you have popups blocked on the page?
