Far out... talk about you old fellas overthinking this...

just invite me. I do an excellent job of winching boats onto trailers, retrieving anchors in up to 50m of water and can make a huge mess of any boat with just one cast net - hope you had fun cleaning that up on Saturday @ellicat!

Side by side of mud island Navionics with “fish n chips” turned off. Cmaps is the chart with the dots.
Like @Nog said with fish n chips on navionics provides even more contour detail then the attached pic.
I haven’t found either map to display green zones well and have resorted to mapping waypoints and trails around green zones so it is very clear for me.

I have the Navionics "Fish n Chips" card, and has fine detail for Moreton Bay. For example the sou-west part of Mud Island looks like a bunch of spastic spaghettiti.
I assume C-map can do the same but I'm running AutoChart Live on mine to map in greater details areas I'm intereste din

@kmcrosby78 Mate are you ok? I am seriously concerned. You are looking a bit unwell. Perhaps you need to have the day off on Wed because you don't want to give the kids anything....

I have cmaps that came with a lowrance HDS-Live and also run an old navionics plus card from about 5 years ago.
For navigation I use cmaps as it is more current however the bathymetry mapping detail or what navionics call sonarcharts showed more detail (even though older) which is useful for looking for structure or drop offs.
Lowrance is partnered with cmaps whilst Garmin Navionics
What is the price difference in the two brands?

Yea if you really need to use surface lures it will work but if your planning just to do surface lures on the day stick to a mono leader but if you not sure if you want to use soft plastics or bait or surface lures on the day just use fluorocarbon it’s very versatile compared to mono it doesn’t make a huge difference between the 2 when using surface lures if your using light leaders like 4-8lb as They don’t sink as fast as stronger fluorocarbons .general rule of thumb
fluorocarbon for soft plastics. bait and small hardbodies and vibes
mono for surface lures bait and some hard bodies
basically to sum it all up
the reason you use fluoro with soft plastics is because it sinks and so does the lure if you use mono with soft plastics it ruins the action of the lure and doesn’t sink probably And looks crap
the reason you use mono with surface lures is Because it floats and doesn’t really sink that much or at all when slack. if you use fluorocarbon with surface lures it will pull the lure underwater a little depending on the breaking strain lower fluorocarbons don’t often do this and you can usually get away with using light fluorocarbon leaders as they don’t sink as fast
Hope that helps that’s just my general experience with the 2 lines as a leader and spooled whole

The theory is the fuse blows before the wire connected melts due to a short. The wire that came with my battery monitor was around 1mm or 18awg which over the short 30cm would be good for 5amp+ (Easily).  I used 3amp (Under the 5amp) as recycled, plus it is a fuse size on some of my other electronics already. I carry spare fuses for all my boat fuse sizes, could have chosen 1amp or 2amp but it is not a fuse size on the boat so would need to add more fuse spares)
Fuses always on the hot side (positive).

I need to find a job that allows me to fish mid week. So many times weekday weather is mint before blowing a gale on weekends. Let us know how you go.

Yes I assume he is talking about the float and ring device. If you are anchoring in ~20m probably not worth the extra effort or time. However in deeper water if I didn’t have an electric winch I wouldn’t be without one saves a lot of physical effort.
On my previous boat I had it setup with float and anchor in a milk crate under my drivers seat, never had to go through the cabin hatch at all to Drop or retrieve the anchor when fishing solo using this float.

I do leave them on all the time, the current draw is 1mA (negligible) which is more than compensated for by the trickle charger which I have always connected.
Not saying I know enough about wiring but the fuse is a no brainer for me. I’ve played around with enough 12v wiring starting with my teenage years with car audio, speakers amps to complete rewire of my last boat and trailer. The fuse has saved my bacon and potential fire a few times. You can never be sure with eBay electronic components in a marine environment.

Could go no hands all together with a boat latch system and drive on, however these don’t come cheap and would be more expensive compared to an electric winch.

The instructions say they can be connected straight to the battery but I don’t recommend this. Good practise Would be to add an inline fuse in case of any shorts. I had a spare 3amp inline fuse from a previous sounder install which I just recycled.
My boat batteries are dual terminal so it was a straight bolt on as the second set of m10 terminals were not being used.
Not that I have needed to switch the Bluetooth monitor off but the ones I purchased have no way of turning off (outside of disconnecting them from the battery) so an inline 12v switch may be handy.

Been there done that 🙂. Over time I’ve changed my pre boating routine from always turning over the motor the night before to avoid ramp embarrassment to investing in a Ctek trickle charger as I don’t get to use the boat as often as I’d like. I now also have a cheap eBay Bluetooth battery monitor that I can pair to my phone and check the battery Is charging from my lounge chair. As a final strategy When launching I always start her up before She is off the trailer (one less thing to do if she doesn’t start). If I see someone struggling to start their boat I’ll always offer some reassuring words, simple things like kill switch, neutral gear, fuel bulb. Sometimes in the panic at the ramp people forget the basics.

Awesome, congrats mate. Looks a very clean boat. Lightly used by the last owner. Anything you would like to add before you hit the water for a fishing session or is it good to go?
