Hweebe reacted to Old Scaley in WaterSnake Geospot 65lb - Thoughts??
I did a post on my installation a few years ago, but can’t find it now. Lots of videos on the net. From me the extras I needed were: battery case (cheap one); 60 amp inline fuse; 2 Anderson plugs; 2 waterproof covers for the Anderson plugs; red and black tinned 15 amp power cable; some waterproof solder joiners; heat shrink tubing; liquid electrical tape. I also bought a MK quick release bracket which I haven’t used (yet).
    Hope this helps.

Newstead park can definitely be snaggy - ruined a few cast nets back in the day. I tended not to let the net fully drop to the bottom if possible.
I preferred the south end towards the two newer apartment blocks. On Google maps its Wharf park

Schools of mullet are much easier to spot in cleaner water around bridge / pylon lights. (Dark blob/shadow)
A favourite spot for me is all along Newstead Park > Newstead Terrace Park. If you walk all along this built up foreshore you're bound to spot / hear mullet jumping around. Just have your cast net handy. Big Banana prawns at times as well.

Nothing truer than "Matching the hatch" when it comes to slug selection.
    However my default is:
Start small: If I know the mac or tuna are around (a bust up) I'm going with a weight that allows me to cast / reach the bust up before they spook and head underwater.
There is no point going smaller if the metal slug is not heavy enough to reach the fish. On the flipside I don't go larger because I'm a lazy fisherman and larger slugs take more effort 🙂
Upsize: If I find that i'm landing the slug in the strike zone but no hits, I'll change it up and try some different sizes/colours.
Match the hatch: Once you have landed a feeding mac/tuna - They quite often regurgitate what they are eating onto the boat. Then I match my slug with that bait size. This is by far your best bet at landing another fish. Matching the hatch is a game changer.
On days where the water clarity is good and bait is hanging around bust ups, just look over the side with the polarised glasses and scope out what size bait is swimming around and match that.
Other lures: I would also have some other non-metal lure options as well. Stickbaits or plastics (bubblegum colour being my fav) if you are chasing Tuna. For macs i tend to stick to metals as a solid option

No particular braid brand but if it is a casting rod I'll put the more expensive 8-strand braid.
You can feel It's a lot smoother and runs through the guides better when casting.

Headed out with Darren (@Allnighter) today, and @Leosonfire tagged along in his new boat too. Got to my mark around 7am in time for the start of the run in. Things were looking crook when the first half a dozen fish were grinners. We were bottom fishing while waiting for the pillie under a float to entice a schoolie or two.
Soon enough the mack rod screamed off. I was playing it in when Darren's rod went off. He brought his in close enough to see it was vermin in the shape of a fairly hefty Leopard shark. Pretty fish, but it was in the macks way, so Darren tucked it out of the way and slid the net under the schoolie. 64cm. A good start to the esky deposits.
A few more grinners, then a decent grassie, then it went a bit quiet, so we shifted 50 metres or so. I was getting bites here, but not Darren. Then another schoolie came in. We shifted a little again and, down 3/Nil, Darren was onto something heavy. Up popped a 45cm Blackspot Tuskfish. Very well received and straight on ice.
Not long after he was on again. This one took him to the reef. After a patient 2 minutes or so it came back out and I slid the net under another bluey about the same size as the first. Then he caught another Leopard shark about 7 - 8 foot long!
I got another mackerel and another grassie for the esky before the toads chased us away. A quick stop back at my first mark and my line screamed off. It was no toad. Ended up being a 4-5 foot shovellie. A bit disappointing but it had me puffing for a bit. @Old Scaley dropped in and said g'day then anchored not far away. We left soon after.
Back to the ramp at 2, happy with a top day on the water. It's always beautiful at the Rous on a sunny day.

@MattInOz  No - Membership will no longer be required once Marine Rescue QLD is fulling implemented / operational.
From their FAQs Frequently Asked Questions (vision6.com.au)
Will Marine Rescue Queensland charge users for services?

Providing marine assistance to persons or vessels in difficulty or distress will be a core function of Marine Rescue Queensland. This means that MRQ will not be charging for these services.

The rescued party may choose to make a donation to MRQ as a subsequent action, however the request or requirement for donation is not tied to the on-water response. Where someone chooses to make a donation, that donation can be directed to their local unit or to Marine Rescue Queensland.

Definitely don't recommend that link as it is way over the top pricing.
But that's just so you get the idea  as an option. I'm sure bunnings would have something you could use for probs less than $10 hahaha

    Hi All.
Last day of the holidays for these Teenagers. Decided to go some where different. God's country.
Arrived around sunrise. just before low tide.
Bonito on the bite straight away. A few tailor ( released )
I started with a drummer. That woke me up, spilt my coffee. After A good fight I let him go.
The boys caught some nice bream. Around 33cm.
I  changed to bait. First snapper 47cm.
We ended up with two snapper. Three bonito. Three bream.
    Good time. Lots of laughs.
Bait was squid & various lures.
Newport Arms for breakfast. Where else.
    Cheers.

Spot on all extra water would be carrying excess organic matter and microbes sucking all the oxygen out of the water. Normally the larger fish can outswim it but 1m jew would mean the inundation was rapid!

Mate of mine did a trip up to Pancake Creek and on way home drove into Monduran Dam reversed down the ramp.  A guy was yelling at him about not having undone the straps…he laughed and said he was just flushing trailer and motor with fresh water.  Not sure if its bad etiquette but its only around the corner from Turkey Beach relatively so you could always stop for a quick fresh water fish on the way home and run it with some fresh water.
