Haha thanks @kmcrosby78. Yeah I have a tackle box full of stick baits and plastics but I just never have the motivation to use them (when I do it rarely lasts longer than 30mins). Need to do a few trips without any other bait I guess 😂

    Hi all,
I have been fishing for the best part of my life (30+ years) and always keen to find new techniques, equipment and tips.
I came across this forum as I have contracted the fishing bug again and recently moved back to the bayside so heading out every week or two (my rig attached).
Looking forward to sharing and learning from all you fisho weapons! 😉
    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Hi, All,
Headed out into the bay the other arvo in not so good conditions looking for a few early season big bay snapper.
Grab some live baits headed to some slightly  deep water for the bay.
Got set up and started some drifts.
Around 4pm I hooked a good fish that ran pretty hard and dropped the hooks cold, so we marked that spot and proceeded to drift this area in hope of another bite... another 1&1/2 hrs later and finally enticed one to grab a livie and keep the hooks in it. Few seconds after hooking mine .my mate hooked up as well. . Few moments later my mate netted my fish, then I his followed  , put my fish in the esky and release his hoping for an upgrade later in the evening.  Managed another fish similar size which was realised also as we had plenty for a feed....
About 7.30pm headed for the ramp in solid 15knot southerly.
    Cheers Josh <><

Yeah we’d planned on doing a much bigger trip than we did, we had some serious engine dramas and spent most of the trip in limp mode. This was combined with a broken marine radio which made this interesting to say the least Especially as the dramas started 100km offshore. Most importantly we made it home safely. Worst part was the motor was serviced two days before the trip ( specifically for the trip) and radio was three weeks old. We didn’t get to fish our big red grounds but thanks to some bush mechanics and luckily having good tools and spares on board we still had a great trip considering.  I CANT stress enough to anyone undertaking long range trips how important it is to be prepared for the worst and have a good understanding of your equipment the weather and the grounds you are heading to. We were able to do the majority of our fishing on anchor in the shallows withIn protection of the reef Or at least in sight of it. Then it was a matter waiting  it out two nights for a break in weather for the run home. We spoke to another boat we knew out there who was heading home on Monday and gave them the track we would be taking home (as we had zero radio comms) and left four hours before them as we were at fairly lows speeds. Knowing if engine totally gave up the ghost we could drop anchor and wait for them to come by. This option was probably a result of good karma as on day one that other boat had busted a hydraulic steering line and luckily we had a few litres of hydraulic steering fluid to give to them and some hose clamps which saved their trip. Keep in mind both boats are well maintained and always serviced and regularly checked over before big trips so it can happen at any time. And last but not least on night one our gas mate cooker with a Brand new freshly opened canister started spewing flames at a rate of knots directly from where the canister connects to the cooker so was promptly sent for a permanent time out at Davey Jones’s locker, as with 300 litres of petrol on the deck this was NOT good . So it was cornchip an salsa sandwiches and a couple of skipped meals for the next day and a half( not ideal in the middle of winter)
in conclusion with high spirits and a bit of know how we still had a really good trip which could have been so much worse we managed three reds, twenty one trout, 1 gold band and then a good mixed bag of lipper parrot and some nice coral tomato and Māori cods. So the fishing front was pretty great! ( I’ll get my big red next time !!)
anyways enough dramas here’s some pics enjoy and stay safe !!!

Welcome mate, looking forward to hearing of your adventures. Nice versatile rig there. I am like you regarding plastics - need to stop being stubborn and give them a proper go (might also help me justify an electric motor to the missus ..... 😉).

Thanks guys. I have fished the mouth of the river recently but hardly caught a thing, even around the infamous Clara rocks... the current was hauling through there though... always keen to try it again. I hit up the rockwalls and tried to sound around for something interesting but not much doing. Will have to try it again. You are right, its nice to poke in there when it is blowing.
One thing I am really keen on getting good at is dropping baits for plastics. Just never seem to have much success. Watched at tonne of vids on techniques etc. but just don't seem to get anything to write home about. 😒

Yeah it gets me out and about all things Moreton and beyond. Most adventurous I have been is about 15nm off 1770. The rig gets through anything I can throw it at.
Really enjoying my night fishing atm too. Working from home makes that really easy on a work day too! 😉

    Thanks @Ed., @ellicat and @Leosonfire!
I usually target anything reefy (Snapper / Sweetlip etc. etc) but love to flick a lure for that elusive monster flatty and throw a slug at some mackeral when i get a chance.
Glad to hear they are helpful @Leosonfire 🙂 I will keep you in mind, I am looking to upgrade the rig (at some stage), to something with a bit more cover for the little ones and the misses (hoping around a 610) but I just love the flexibility of the 450 open.... Tell your wife that Tinnies are so much safer and more room to fish with mates means more fish to bring home (in theory anyway) 😄

    Hey Battler80
Yep, sounds like a good rig. When I was home-schooled (with COVID), fishing more often was a big plus side!
Like Hweebe said also, the river can also be productive at night... If you are keeping fish though, you might be a bit iffy on eating out of the dirtier stretches (I know I am!).
    Cheers Hamish

If you are into the night fishing, Port of Brisbane can be very productive for Jewfish and Threadies if the Northern Moreton bay is too choppy.
