    Hi All
I almost got an invite out to fish in a boat tomorrow but had some appointments, thought seriously about cancelling them but in the end did the right thing and turned down the offer.  Karma you might say visited me today.  I decided to go fish the last of the run out tide in the local creek again.  Sunday saw a guy catch a pretty decent 38cm whiting and a flathead so I went for a fish yesterday about the same tide and met up with him again came home with a legal whiting and first legal sized Tarwhine but caught 4 stingray.
They were good practice for when I hooked a big fish sometime.  Anyway after turning down a beautiful fishing day on a boat tomorrow I had to cheer myself up.  Got to the creek about 3pm.  Set off with yabby pump and about an hour later put my rod in the water.  The same fisho, Will, was there again along with another couple.  We had some chats and Will caught a whiting so I changed my leader from 15 pound to the lightest I have left, 10 pound and I had run out of my normal long shank hook so used a number 10 longshank I had purchased for Garfish.  I looked in my bucket for the smallest yabbie I could find to match the hook and put my line out.  The tide had almost stopped running and not much was happening so I put my rod in the holder to put a lure on my second rod.  I heard a noise behind me and turned around to see my rod lying on the ground half on the sand half in the water.  I quickly reached out to pick it up and just in time as the reel began to scream and the fish took a big run.  It stopped and felt like it dug itself in and then I managed to gain some line back.  Cursing to the others that I had got another stingray.  Well the couple fishing wanted to know how I dealt with the stingrays I caught yesterday so she started filming.  I gained line and then it would take another big run, then I gained some more and another run.  Well you get the picture.  I brought it about a metre from the bank a couple of times and on the second time Will and I both saw fins thrashing out of the water.  Will said that is not a stingray!  The fins were big. No was excited and now scared I was going to lose it.  With a bit of coaching, Will telling me to tire it out, I brought it to the bank a third time and Will had the gaff ready and helped me land it.
After I stopped jumping up and down and yelling (Ellicat knows what that is like) it was hard to get excited about fishing again so I left shortly after to come home and write the report.
I am going to enter the photo in my fishing club comp!
I am told by Doug Burt's that my catch is a Sombre Swéetlip.
If my mates really old rusty scales are right it is about 9.6 pounds and measures 62cm long.  It feels heavier to me but I haven't got kitchen scales big enough.

It's finally stopped raining on the coast. Don't know for how long. All the rivers and Broadwater are very dirty. There's lots of rubbish and debris floating about. Even a house boat capsized and on its side at Biggera Waters. Think I'll wait till it clears up a bit before I go out.

Old Scaley is correct. I went out on the larger trawlers in Moreton Bay. And I’m sure they don’t throw squid back anymore. Far too valuable. One other little tidbit about those days. One night we were trawling away and started bringing the nets in but it was obvious there was far more weight than normal. The skipper managed to get the net too the surface but we couldn't swing it into the boat because it was far too heavy. We discovered it was full of sea scallops! No matter what we did It wouldn’t budge and the trawler was in danger of capsizing so we had to release the entire lot. The skipper was a huge bloke but I can tell you even huge blokes cry, and he did that night! Lol

Just finished watching a you tube seminar with Dougie Burt.  He said all the dirty water is on the top and all the fish sit on the bottom in the clean water. But that is off shore. Be a bit differant in only a couple of metres of water in a river or creek.
Also the fresh water is definitely on the top. My dogs go in the creek at the back which is a run of of the Coombabah and drink the water after the rain.  But it mite be salt and send's them silly. That's why they don't do as their told.

I’ve seen you’re videos on YouTube . I started fishing when I was 12 I tried fishing before I was 12 with no success so when I was 12 I bought a shimano fx 1000 and spooled it up with 4lb mono and I had that matched to a 5 foot something telescopic rod I watched your video .how to catch bream bream basics. And I started from there now I’m so much better at fishing since I started when I was 12 but it was that 1 video that helped me to learn how to fish . I normally fish with lures and plastics now with decent gear I have a Stradic and couple of sedonas and proper graphite rods daiwa Td nero and atomic arrows bream surface are my main 2 rods I use .  every now and then I use that unweighted bait technique with light 2-6lb leader when nothing else is biting works like a charm . No one in my family fish’s so I’m self taught can’t express how thankfull I am for that video thank you that was the first fishing technique I mastered

I have a Raymarine dragonfly pro and have left it turned on deliberately for a couple of days to managed the voltage drop.   Still works ok .I think .But haven't seen any good fish lately. Maybe it is broken.....

Get on to a school of pike and they can be good fun. There savage and keep going and going at the bait. Had them bite thru 20lb leader. Make top bait but also very nice to eat.
