queensland Gold Coast report ?

Hey guys, 

Been away at work for 3 weeks, I am home tomorrow and weather is looking awesome for Friday, planning on dropping some pots and having a fish up around the pin area. Any one heard of decent reports of crabs and fishing up that area lately ?

Weather has been tragic for the past couple of weeks or so, so I'm not sure if any members can give you an update. I'd imagine the water would be a bit on the dirty side.

Reports are that the crabbing is great.  Not sure about the fishing but imagine it will be dismal.

I assume it would be really dirty - I watched a YouTube video of some fellas catching some good muddies at creek entrances. I assume that's where they'd be holding, or in deep holes, if they are accessible for you.

I'm going to make it a solo trip as I have some home issues that might need me to can the trip or cut it short at the drop of the hat. Otherwise you would have had yourself a day out.

It's finally stopped raining on the coast. Don't know for how long. All the rivers and Broadwater are very dirty. There's lots of rubbish and debris floating about. Even a house boat capsized and on its side at Biggera Waters. Think I'll wait till it clears up a bit before I go out.

Ha ha.  That houseboat went down in the first floods a couple of weeks ago.  I do feel sorry for the owners.  I drove past Broadwater this morning and it looks more like dirty coffee with some milk swirling around in it than tidal waters.  I am hoping to go out in a boat off MacLeay in the weekend.  Anyone seen the state of the water round there lately?

I'll be leaving from Manly on Friday, so I will let you know. I suspect it might be a bit on the dirty side so will be heading to the Rous to try to find the clear stuff.

Finally got out to MacLeay.  Water was pretty darn clear near Peel but still dirty at MacLeay and Karragarra - I am told it is still the run off from the Logan. Fishing was pretty dismal - not too bad around Peel if it wasn't our first foray there.  Didn't really know where to go to fish.  Will explore more in a month or so hopefully.

The red fish that is in the first photo is a Grubfish of sorts. Tasty, like Whiting!

Well one day when I went out with ellicat I caught one and that’s what we decided.

I think they’re also known as Rock Whiting.

I still haven't been out yet, but good to know it has mostly cleared.

I went out as I said I was going too, got a few muddies, only one keeper and tried a new spot and caught 3 stingrays thinking of going to coochiemudlo this break, I have never been.

Thanks @snap1946 - beat me to it! Technically a bar faced weever but common local name is rock whiting based on them have a similar taste to whiting and generally bring found in the presence of rocky/reefy areas. Used to catch heaps of them in crab pots around mud island. IMO not as good as whiting to eat and far more bones to fillet around. Certainly would if i was hungry.  

Made reasonable flesh bait though.

thanks to everyone helping to identify.  I am buying a grants grants guide come hell or high water when my money comes through - probably before my boat lol.
