ellicat got a reaction from kmcrosby78 in Not Just Another Day in The Bay
Funny how one missing word can give me a laugh. He must be smaller than I thought. haha
Wow, some real mojo happening for the Green Machine and especially for the new Loomis. What was your choice of bait ?
I wish our day out on the water was as productive, but with sharks and one big cod that we couldn't make much ground on, we were only able to put two fish in the esky.
That's two good reports from Mud within the week. Might have to revisit myself.

ellicat got a reaction from Drop Bear in NRL 2022
Well the season is fast approaching, with the All Stars games on this afternoon.
First is the women's game at 4.20pm and the Men's game at 7.10pm.
As usual we will have a tipping comp that all members are welcome to join. I will post the details when I've set it up.

Good fun for sure was down to backing twice and had to chase him down in the strong current.
I release everything inshore except the odd flatly. Nice snap or Jew offshore though...

Hi guys,
Fished the Broadwater on the high tide change today. Water still a bit dirty until the clean water pushed in. Didn't affect the fishing.
Got my first squire about 30 secs on my first drift and each drift had some sort of action. Missed a few but ended with 3 squire and a nice GT all on 4lb deadstick 2" grub. Good fun.

ellicat reacted to rayke1938 in Bit of this and a bit of that.
Bit of fog, bit of rain, bit of wind, bit of sun at Baroon Pocket this morning. The bass were hungry but we had to move about to get out of the wind with some good trophy size bass boated . The bass are very healthy and they will be a real challenge on light gear when they commence to roe up in the next few months. 55 bass boated.
Cheers Ray

Alright, I found it. Thanks for that.
His spiel said it went 33 years old and was caught on a hussar fillet.

Thanks e'cat, for setting up this years tipping comp, I'll be in again. as soon as I finish checking out the winter olympics form of the ladies, I'll register.... I must admit, I'm finding it hard to fully appreciate their form with all that bulky winter gear they wear 😁

ellicat got a reaction from Gad in Is a Baitrunner Really Worth It?
Haha, I've never used the one I'm giving Hamish so it probably has good mojo from @Bri The Pom, who I bought it off.

I almost exclusively use the baitrunner function when fishing unweighted livies targeting cobia, jew and anything else that doesn't generally stick to the bottom that might happen along while I'm bottom bashing.
So, yes I do use it, but I'm not in that position regularly. I use the reel like a spinning reel at times though.

The benefit of the baitrunner is, like Steve said, being able to have your drag set properly for when you click it into gear. As a rule of thumb your drag should be set at 1/3 the breaking strain of your main line.
So you set your drag, put it in baitrunner mode (which is also adjustable) and then when a fish takes your bait you just start winding and it automatically kicks into gear and sets the hook. If you just have your drag loose and then have to wind it in to strike you might end up like I did one day and miss a very good fish. ho hum

Today I was looking at some reels that I haven't used in a long time. I thought what can I do with this 6000 size Shimano Baitrunner. Then I read this thread and it is obvious.
Hamish, you can have mine for free to try out and if you like it then all is good. If you don't - give it to someone else. It won't be as flash as a new reel of course. It has 50lb braid on it I think, but you would need to change that as it is well past its use by date (probably 15 years old).

Yellowbelly on a Oargee 75mm plow I think.
Mates bigger cod was on an Old Mate, similar to an Oargee/Stumpjumper
Both lures were bright green with orange and a nearby boat caught a Yella on similar as well.

ellicat reacted to Jimmyjack in Best time to catch finger mullet from Brisbane river
Herring will school up whereas generally you will get poddy mullet a te mouths of narrow gutters, on the drop off of sandbanks and yes, for sure on flats sand and mud. If you have a tinny you can go up little creeks and cast net by sight when you see them trying to get past.

Hahaha. Hooked indeed. After every trip I check to see when I can next get out too.
What lures were you trolling ?

Welcome to the forum @dnardy!
Those are some quality fish. I’m sure they would’ve fought well. Nice work!
Cheers Hamish
