I've no scientific facts, but I recon is Learned behaviour and they know boats and boat noise make an easy feed.
I've seen this in remote spots over years where its not worth fishing them as the sharks vaporise your fish.
ask any commercial fisherman, they will agree with you. they stalk pro crab boats and literally sit under the boat waiting for all the underasized crabs to be thrown back in with an open mouth. there was some footage last year of a trawler with hundreds of sharks around it.
ive fished Fraser on charter and the sharks were so thick you couldnt keep a hooked fish on for longer than 10 seconds without sharks smashing it. fast way to loose jigs.
just wonder if commercial sharking of bigger than 1.5m would have an imapact on controlling the numbers or not.- Drop Bear, ellicat, AUS-BNE-FISHO and 1 other

What is the best way of disinfecting/preventing invasive species staying on my waders and boots etc and being spread to other water. I want to make sure I'm doing the best I can to prevent mud snails, zebra mussels etc from spreading.
much like the kayaing launching facilities around seq, id imagine a thorough hose would do the trick. leaving your gear out in the sun would probably help too

general rule of thumb is to try and match the lure colour to the water colour. eg dont use a white lure in muddy waters.
a good trick is to watch professionals fishing your area on youtube. often they will talk about the gear they use. ill try and find some for you, should be loads for the goldy

Worth thinking about how to include grassies, tuskies etc without blowing out the list of target species. Might also be good to think about whether undersize (or even oversized) fish should be eligible? Just from an optics perspective.
the hard part with under or oversized fish is the fact that this comp is now bigger than just QLD. different rules for different states.
i feel like jacks, threadfin could be replaced with an emperor category and a parrot/tusk fish category. i mean you could have an endless list of fish categories, but that just doesn't feel right for the comp. i don't think a jack has ever been submitted and only one threadfin has even been submitted from memory. One year i just had a combined threadfin/jew category.

just goes to show how dangerous a tiny amount of slack line can be. was only a split second and the hook fell out. such a shame. at least you got to see it, nothing worse than losing a fish to never see it and forever wonder what it was

Jacks could fall under reefies anyway, so I agree there.
yeah that would work
Should also mention that ill place trophy order end of next week.

Nice work @christophagus. A nice distraction and some good fish caught despite the poor conditions that we had for most of the time the comp was running. Looking at the leaderboard and some of the reports lately, maybe next comp we drop tuna and add miscellaneous reefies so people can include grassies, tuskie etc. just a thought.
Thanks again mate. You have done well again!
agreed. keen to also drop jacks. i dont think anyone has ever entered one

thats a monster journey. Moreton bay can turn nasty really really quickly. If youre really keen on chasing some better fish, go offshore from the sunshine coast. you dont need to go far to reach some great fishing ground that hold loads of reef fish and pelagics too.

1. Will it make fishing easier?
2. Will the amount of use it gets justify the expense
I've just bought a 2500 baitrunner just for shark fishing (and for live baiting for flathead in the future. While you can just tighten the drag on a regular reel, i find that it can be a little clunky sometimes and have even lost fish due to playing with the drag tbh. i did actually find it very very handy when we had all 3 lines go at once last time i was out. i was able to just click 2 buttons and the drag set so i could fight the 1st fish. without them, i might have lost alot of line. Honestly, i think once you use it and hook a few fish, you will see how easy it is and you'll love it.

x2 for the Daiwa Aird. my favourite bream rod.

Thanks @christophagus I actually have the minnowz in that colour- does time of day affect the productivity for these fish, as I managed a 78cm specimen early morning, however haven't caught anything after fishing around 12-2pm (run out tides).
78 is a cracking fish. they can be caught at all times of day. although i do prefer morning and late afternoon

how long is a piece of string...
my go to is a zman 3 inch minnowz in electric chicken
100mm squidgee wriggler in bloodworm is also good. i like to fish for them on the flats where there are drop offs into deeper water. for the sunny coast, golden beach is a great spot for that.

Think that tradition should start again! As someone constantly tells me I am still defecating yellow when it comes to fishing - so I don't remember the old days
If I had a yak or a car at the moment would love to join. Love catching and eating cod.
And Good Luck! Is Cod on the leaderboard?
Agreed! Yep, cod is on the list. Fresh or salt versions.

Good luck on Saturday @christophagus. I am heading out in the morning (Friday) for the first time since early November. Hope I can remember which end of the rod is which. Pretty pumped to be getting out though.
That’s the spirit mate. Get out there and get amongst it! If there is one thing kids have taught me, is to make use of the time when you have it. I only wet a line 3 times last year
