I've had one of those cat fish follow me around on my kayak. Back and forth around the creek for about an hour. I'd paddle and look back and it was following. Strangely cute it was, until an Eagle plucked it out of the water

Awesome great feedback thanks guys. Just getting excited about my new stessl that's being built. Once I get experience I am keen to do a trip out the north west island. I know that all the water drains out from the island so by the looks of it the boat would sit on sand. Was tossing up whether to take the barge with my smaller 4.3m boat, or to take the new 6.3m boat when I get it later in the year.

Would actually be awesome to do a big meet up with whoever is keen from the forum up there 😛

    Hi EddieBris88
I would certainly go lighter. 10lb trace will be perfect for bream, dart, flathead, and whiting. If you are targeting whiting, you might even want to go lighter.
30lb is probably what you'd use for targeting jewfish off the surf. Light line will land you the big fish. You just need to play the fish carefully.

    hey mate,
much better option to stay shore based.
if you walk the beaches either north or south of the resort with soft plastics on about a 1/6 or 1/4 oz jighead you will find flathead pretty much anywhere.  look for anything that may concentrate bait - a log, a small gutter, weed or rocks and pepper the area with casts.  you will also find bream, flounder and might get lucky with a tailor or trevally if there is enough bait around.  I like to use natural coloured 3-5" paddle tail lures, gobblers and zmans probably my 2 favourite.  Try to match whiting / hardy heads as they are the predominant prey in the area.
tip - avoid the area directly in front of the resort and around the wrecks.  go to area where there is few if any people or boats and you will have the best success.  I would personally head south from the resort until i was past the desert walking track for best chance of success.
also worth a flick off and around the tangers jetty if you are still allowed to fish there.  can hold a variety of fish from bread and butter to kingfish, trevally, mackerel if there is bait around.
    good luck.

Haven't taken my boat into the mouth as I've been concerned about the tricky channel / rocks. I'm assuming you're familiar with the river, but I know that the logan and albert can be subject to some pretty extreme flooding. You can still see debris half way up the trees from water around nearby roads of the albert up from the weir. Must have been some serious water to push stanmore bridge over!

Yeah OK cool thanks then it seems like its not a matter of of it has brakes, but what type of brakes. Do mechanical override brakes generally require any special fitments to the car, or does it work completely outside of any electronics?

    Hey,

Looking at a 6.5m plate boat and am thinking it might sit around the 2 tonne mark at a guess. I have a Triton to tow it. From my little reading, it looks like you need trailer brakes of the loaded trailer if above 750kg. Is that right?
Very new to the idea of trailer brakes, are they are pain to maintain, and how much should I be expecting to pay if the trailer doesn't have it already? I'm guessing the ute will need to be modified to support it as it wouldn't run through the trailer plug?

    Cheers

    Hey Ryannnnnnnn
I've heard good stuff about the Weinem Creek ramp in old threads, but I'm not to sure about the other two.
I like the Fig Tree Pocket Ramp, but only because we can catch live prawns there 😉. I don't know how it is on low tide.

Wow thanks for the replies. I've usually been getting back in to the ramp half way down the run out tide as I didn't know what it was like lower than that.
Does anyone know of you can launch off the beach at cabbage tree during the top half of the tide instead of using the busy concrete ramp? Have a 4.3m tinny

    Hey,
I'm particularly interested in what the weinem creek, Victoria point and cabbage tree boat ramps are like at lowtide, but while I've got a thread going I thought it might be helpful to share what your favourite ramps are like at low tide.
    Cheers,

Hey @Old Scaley no worries happy to answer any questions you have, no expert here but happy to share my own experience of it! I have a horizon easyfisher 435.
So I got quoted between $3500 and $4000 but I ended up getting it supplied and fitted with the battery for $2900 including the quick release bracket from Brisbane quintrex which I thought was very reasonable! The thruster plate, bow rail removal and battery plate got done else where, think I only paid about $90.
Have attached a few photos if it helps at all. The angle of mine goes straight back, I've seen others where it sits on an angle out to the side.
I was worried putting the battery at the back with the added weight and I'm really glad I put it at the front. Have noticed no impact on the ride using the yammy.
I have to manually put it on charge after I've used it, unlike my other battery which runs the lights, bilge and sounder. I've never had it run out of battery (even after forgetting to put it on charge! )
I've only used the quick release bracket once for a trip from Brisbane to baffle creek, but I'm sure I'll use it more on future trips.
Let me know if you have any other questions or would like some other photos - sorry they're a bit dark 🙂

You're welcome @Old Scaley . Yep indeed had to get the bow rail removed. Hopefully you can avoid it if possible 🙂
It is an anderson plug - that's exactly right it allows me to remove the minn kota easily with the quick release bracket. Not too sure on the battery box, but that's prompted me to think about putting the battery in a box myself - seems like a sensible thing to do!

Hey @Old Scaley thanks for checking back in. I ended up getting an MK Riptide with a 120amp battery. I got the thruster plate welded on by a boat builder then had the MK supplied and fitted by the dealer that originally supplied my boat. I couldn't find any good cheaper alternatives that had the spot lock feature and am really glad I slashed out on the MK.

The minn kota is absolutely fantastic, I haven't used my normal anchor since I had the MK installed which has been months. It's improved my experience out on the water so much. Getting snagged is less of a hassle, can effortlessly move the boat with precision to position myself where ever I want.
I ended up mounting the battery in the front hatch to keep weight down the front which is working well.
At first the dealer fit a 42 inch shaft but it was a bit short - fully extended the shaft would cavitate in any chop, so they replaced it with a 48 inch which is working perfectly.
Can send any pics if it helps at all

    Cheers
