I heard that Evinrude is making outboard motors again. Not what we are used to seeing, but all below the transom. Also they are teaming up with an Australian company to market them "down under" You will only be able to buy a complete package, no retrofitting to your present boat. Makes me and a few others think they are going electric so only the leg is behind the boat. Anyone else heard anything about this?
Electric is inevitable. More Likely to be another 10yrs before they will be affordable but imagine how good that would be for the habitats we fish.

And yes - once the snapper season is back on (or we might get one as by-catch) we need to do the comp!
First one to get a 40cm+ from the yak sounds good!
Cheers Hamish
Game on young man
I just picked this sounde up courtesy of @ellicat the legend! Can’t wait to test it out....just need to figure out how to read it

Now the next question remains.....where do I find these said cocklebanks
I’ve read that they are off Bribie? Do they stretch down into deception bay?
@AUS-BNE-FISHO I feel a little competition is in order. First to land a snap over 40 in the yak gets bragging rights

Far from a snapper king @Leosonfire , Plenty of guys who catch them in the bay bigger than what I do, I have just been lucky to spend time fishing and learning from some of those guys over the past probably 18 years who get the real big fish in the 9kg + bracket and produce a little more consistent results than what I do.
floating rigs using small running ball sinkers seem to be the best way,, Few of kayak guys I know who fish Scarborough, Margate & Clontarf they spend a lot of time throwing 3 & 4inch plastics on 8lb braid & 10lb leaders some times even lighter using 1/8,1/6 & 1/4 ounce jig heads, Light line is key to these areas as the fish spook very easy,
You will get them at this time of year in the 65cm+ sizes , its just putting in the 1000's of cast's to get one.
.
Thanks for the tips I’m definitely using gear that is too heavy for the area I’m using 30lb fluro leader that I use to use on Gold Coast reefs

Cobia u are my hero! The snapper king
I’d pass out with excitement if I landed a snap over 70! Not sure I’ll find them that big in my yak
what do u recommend for rigs? Running sinker? Double drop patanos? Appreciate your feedback

Seeing we have a whole month of no snapper fishing I was thinking of hitting up the winter whiting to use as baits when the snaps are back on! What do you think Of the plan? Surely snaps can’t resist after a good mating session. They need to get there energy back up and running
Any tips on good whiting spots legends?

Mate I have a greyscale Lowrance 5" sounder (including transducer etc) you can have for $20 if you're interested. You'd just need to get a little 12V battery to run it.
Have you tried varying your troll speed ?
Yes please you legend! That would help heaps!

Hey Leosonfire
Pity 'bout the donut, but persistence is key. You will eventually find a good spot. Hopefully a spot X.
A tinny looks like it would be a lot more comfy in that weather!
Cheers Hamish
It wasn’t that bad kept pretty dry just uncomfortable reaching behind me for supplies ie a couple cans for company

Thanks @Ed., @ellicat and @Leosonfire!
I usually target anything reefy (Snapper / Sweetlip etc. etc) but love to flick a lure for that elusive monster flatty and throw a slug at some mackeral when i get a chance.
Glad to hear they are helpful @Leosonfire
I will keep you in mind, I am looking to upgrade the rig (at some stage), to something with a bit more cover for the little ones and the misses (hoping around a 610) but I just love the flexibility of the 450 open.... Tell your wife that Tinnies are so much safer and more room to fish with mates means more fish to bring home (in theory anyway)
Exactly! Snaps a sweets are may favourites.....just need to find them

Welcome mate! I’m new to forum also and so far very helpful bunch. I fish out of a makeshift yak off Redcliffe-Scarborough jealous of your rig. I’m trying to convince the wife that I need a tinnie for safety

@Drop Bear is the mayor of Wynnum and would probably have a better idea with me. He is also organising to re-establish heavily depleted oyster/shellfish reefs in Moreton Bay which will in the future produce great snapper fishing. If you are interested in becoming a member of our group (through OzFish Unlimited) or finding out more about our project, sing out
.
I have a yak and am on the lookout for a house to buy in the Wynnum area so might try and join you sometime.
Thanks for the info I just checked it out, amazing effort. Where do u take your yak out?

Hi all so never fished the Wynnum side I live smack bang in the middle of Wynnum and Redcliffe but have been to Redcliffe on the last two trips. Keen to explore the other side and some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Im in my little yak which handles north reef ok what would be some snap holding spots I could reach in the yak around Wynnum manly?
