Fish ID Please

Caught this in the Logan River.

Usually catch Bull Shark, Bream, Flathead and Catties there.

Some kind of Perch??

They need to update that page J.vogleri is a synonym for J. borneensis the accepted name and not valid. Not J. borneensis obvious differences in taxonomy in the two pics.

River perch

I have caught heaps of them, usually on prawns. They pull hard for their size. Biggest I have come across is 30cm

Rick, J Douglas Ogilby, Australian Ichthyologist, published an essay titled The Comercial Fishes and Fisheries of Queensland in 1916

which included details of the River Perch J. australis. The revised edition by Tom Marshall in 1954 includes similar information

about the species. Ernie Grant covers the subject in more detail and re-affirms the fishes identity and even refers to Ogilby in his

Guide to Fishes publications. The fish grows to 300mm and years ago it was caught in large numbers, during winter, in the Brisbane and other rivers and creeks on prawns after having spawned, during summer, in the open waters of the bay. :cheer: Ian M
