  1. I call for a royal commission into the administration of this comp...
  2. @AUS-BNE-FISHO Put my name down Hamish. I am unlikely to actually target them (i caught enough when doing research for uni) but I often catch them anyway. and besides, i did soooo well in the state of origin comp i figured i might as well enter another comp and fail epically. also - assuming as the event organizer you are banned from entering or participating in the comp for fear of claims of nepitism? if no-one has raised this before I certainly am now.
  3. As @AUS-BNE-FISHO said, at this time of year pretty much anywhere in the noosa river system is worth a go. They really aren’t hugely difficult to hook, lots of hungry younger sharks in all SEQ rivers at this time of year. i’m no local expert around Tewantin but I’d suggest Chaplin park around the mouth of the canal would be a great place to start.
  4. thanks for the day out @Old Scaley, was a cracking day on the water. Never frenetic action but pretty consistent. Looking forward to little miss trying yet another new species - she hasn't had grunter before! and how good was it cheering and whopping away listening to australia destroy india's batting order. I don't think i've ever got so many sms's from @ellicat either, i guess he was excited also. We had a pretty cool experience early in the day too. there was a big white bellied sea eagle around near us, steve had caught a bream that was probably just legal but it was released. after initially swimming away, it popped up to the surface and was splashing around behind the boat and in no time at all the big fella glided past us, stuck the claws out and snaffled his breakfast. Super cool to have such a big bird come past within about 10m of us. the fisheries people were very polite and courteous, very happy to see them on the water, especially at this time of year.
  5. I would suggest somewhere along golden beach at caloundra on the flood tide. there hasn't been near as much rain on the sunny coast as the goldie. failing that, the foreshores at redcliffe fish ok for whiting and bream, use fresh baits (yabbies, worms) and find an area with some sort of fish holding structure that differentiates it from the rest of the beach. a gutter, a patch of rubbly rocks etc. with the heavier swells and large tides from last week moving some sand around there should be some areas that are well worth a look.
  6. hi @Mission, We love a good fishhing report on here so if you care to share the story of your captures I am sure we would all love to hear it. especially those of us stuck in the office! cheers, benno
  7. So all up out of 5 possible marks you got 0. This will be noted on your end of year report.
  8. Cracking a century just in time for test season to start. Nice one ray!
  9. I did not realize the situation was this dire... you need to dose up on kwells for the next good weather day and we will rectify this forthwith. the 40cm whiting we can also work on. my 2021 goals: - more time fishing that is all.
  10. I think the most annoying one is a certain presenter who refers to themselves in the first person while presenting a fishing show, whether it be in a CREEK or at the COAST. we know your name dude, just catch fish and shut up. Trends that annoy me: 1) people who insist on wearing branded fishing shirts they paid big $$$ for. you are paying to advertise a brand... 2) people who feel the need to cover their boat in copious amounts of stickers that they bought. again, you are paying to advertise a brand just so you can look like the people on the TV... WHY 3) BUFFS - wearing a buff to cover your face but still rocking a baseball cap that covers next to nothing? 4) using gear that is way too light for the situation and refering to it as "sport". I get it, from time to time you will hook something a lot larger than expected and have a long battle. but doing this on purpose regularly leads to greater stress on the fish, greater chance of sharking and much greater chance of a bust off leaving a fish with a hook/lure hanging out of it's gob and more crap in the ocean. 5) people who believe that cutting the tail off a shark and letting it slowly bleed to death while trashing around is in any way, shape or form humane
  11. I think I have 4... maybe 5 of them. Can’t fault any of them.
  12. Awesome mate. Coro trout are the best eating fish in the sea IMO. Love the variety of captures. Hope the weather plays along for you for the rest of the trip.
  13. ATO calling about an unpaid bill?
  14. No to all of the above i have very distinctive coloration and generally move in pairs
  15. We know! ok... I am mostly found on ocean beaches
  16. You can freeze them cooked or uncooked. They won’t last cooked in a fridge for 10 days. They won’t last alive and tied up for 10 days either - they still need to eat.
  17. Spangled perch. you need to be a little less cryptic for us who still work, our brain capacity is severely diminished by this time of night. In @GregOug‘s case, it is chemically (wineium maximatosis) enhanced which accentuates the condition.
  18. I think I know the scientific name but not sure of the common name. incontinentia... incontinentia buttocks.
  19. I used spectra / dyneema on my boat exclusively. They do perish in UV after about 4-5 years, however, the ease of use and lack of metal shards meant this was a no brainer for me. I prefer them to the strap as they are easier to wind on - not worrying about the strap being dead centre all the time.
  20. hmmmm... i am not aware of any species that has a slot limit with a max of 50cm in Qld... I have just checked the DPI listing which confirmed my theory. happy to stand corrected though...?
