  1. You would have been exhausted just thinking about trying to land one...
  2. I think blue-tip longfin https://fishesofaustralia.net.au/Home/species/4601 do I get bonus points if I got one that @Andrew_P didn’t know?????
  3. I wouldn't think this would be legal mate... give a boat builder a call and check for options but my understanding is that tampering with the hull label is not on.
  4. ah ok. unfortunately I don't believe there is a "legal" way of doing this mate. While I'm sure the hull could handle it, but you wouldn't be able to get insurance and if you were pulled over by the water police, depending on the state you live in (thinking WA based on the rankin in your profile pic?) there are fines and the like associated with having a not "waterworthy" vessel.
  5. I am fairly sure the question was around how to change the max HP rating for a hull as opposed to how to increase te HP of an outboard. I don't believe there is a way to modify a hull to increase its max HP rating. Unlike increasing the GVM of a car, it is not as simple as changing/upgrading components, it is all to do wih the weight of the engine, strengh of the hull etc. lots of people put an outboard on that is over the max HP, this leads to huge issues with insurance and those sort of things and is not recommended. what kind of boat / outboard combo are we dealing with here @Jaz44 and what are you hoping to achieve?
  6. hey mate, the 4-6kg one i have probably had for 6-ish years? it was a replacement by a mate who managed to snap my former favourite rod, a live fibre blade and tails and he offered to replace it. i thought i'd give the tiaryo a crack based on the success @Sparksie had experienced with one from the same brand and felt bad asking my mate to replace a $280 rod when the tiayro was less than half of that. the 2-4kg one originally came about as another replacement by a different mate who managed to snap my other live fibre blade and tails, was purchased based on my love of the 4-6kg version. then i saw they have a 6-8kg so thought why not have the whole family... i recently replaced my 2-4kg owing to an unfortunate incident that occured on the good ship ellicatch. so it is currently only 3 months old. purchased on the bay of e for about $120 delivered ex melbourne? good news is i now have some spare runners and a new stake to hold up a chilli plant... Edit: Think it was from here https://www.ebay.com/usr/emmapang4
  7. I have three rods that cover most fishing situations. They are all tiaryo air speed spin rods, 7’ long. I have the 2-4kg matched to a stradic ci4 with 4lb, 4-6kg matched to an arenos 4000 with 15lb and 6-8kg matched with a stradic ci4 with 20lb. They are all my favorite in different situations, the light for estuary/beach stuff, the medium for bait/plastics in the bay and in close offshore and the heavier one for spinning, heavier plastics and light tackle bottom bashing. They aren’t expensive, quality components, plenty of feel and plenty of grunt. Then theres my live fibre family 4kg baitcaster 10kg baitcaster 8-10kg 8’ spin 15-24kg 8’ spin then there’s the other 20+ favourite rods that live beside them... It’s not a habit it’s cool... I feel alive...
  8. Awesome trip guys. @rayke1938 yet another BFO/AFO member benefiting from your wealth of knowledge and generosity. Awesome stuff mate.
  9. Always fished at anchor out there unless I was in 60m plus. I would suggest fishing as light as you feel comfortable and spend some time finding areas away from the crowds. Plenty of ground to the south west of flinders (outside the green zone of course) and west of hutchies as well that is well worth putting some time into exploring.
  10. Mate sounds like a very private comp - don’t forget to lube up and breathe in and think happy thoughts... i would head for the jumpinin / Jacobs well area personally. Heaps and heaps of ground, many options for all sorts of species. Also shelter in any weather.
  11. Cracker trip sef. One where everything just lined up perfectly and the fish played the game too. Whats your preference - red, trout, nanny or goldband? For me the coro wins hands down.
  12. Also - @kmcrosby78 - you said very hard....
  13. Yeah, the campground is great when it is super windy. You hear it in the tree tops but it hardly makes a ripple in the tarp. Can’t drive to the lighthouse, about a 2km walk from the beach I think. Great fishing from certain parts of the headland too. None of the 4WDing up there is difficult - get the tyre pressures right and just plod on through. The 40psi “full send” club is rampant up there so the beach exits particularly get chopped up a bit. The Mrs had to drive one day not long after high tide coz someone had a decent lunchtime bourbon and she didn’t even come close to getting stuck. She certainly loved driving past two people who were though.
  14. Camped in freshwater campground @kmcrosby78, then travelled over to the rainbow beach side. Lovely camp ground, great facilities even if a hot shower sets you back $2... hardly felt the 40kn wind in there either.
  15. I agree with @Andrew_P in so much as I am sure some of your existing set ups will do the job fine and also having rigs that can do many things. i have 2 x bay set ups that can bait fish, plastic or throw slugs. They are both 7ft graphite rods, one is a 4-6kg and the other a 6-8kg. I run 15lb or 20lb braid on the lighter rod with a 4000 size reel and run 20lb or 25lb on the heavier rod, again on a 4000 size reel. These both handle quite sizeable fish and can easily launch 20g-60g slugs a country mile. They aren’t great with fishing light (<1/4oz) plastics but generally in the bay I use 1/4 or 3/8 jig heads which work perfectly. I often take a lighter set up when fishing the bay too - 2-5kg rod running 10lb braid. For trolling i have a heavy baitcaster style live fibre matched up to a small overhead reel with 30lb braid. This is great for trolling for macks etc and also for a live bait or float line set up. That being said I regularly troll with the spinning rods too, and they work great. But hey, you can never have too many sticks so don’t let this post deter you from stimulating the economy.
  16. Think of it as an in possession limit, not a daily bag. It includes fish/crabs in your freezer at home as well as the esky in your boat. if you lived on your own, had 7 crabs in your fridge at home from previous trips and then kept another 7, this is not allowed as you have 14 in possession. However, if you live with others and they are home if a fisheries officer came knocking, no problem as you would have 7, they could also have 7. all that being said, what area are you fishing to catch so many crabs???
  17. Just off the beach actually mate. Didn’t take the yak up this time. Would have loved to have it there after watching birds and bust ups about 200m off the beach...
  18. Hi all, decided to brave the Xmas crowds and took the family camping up at cooloola. Headed up on Tuesday, found a nice spot and set up camp. Wednesday morning dawned still and sunny, we quickly had breakfast and headed over to the lagoon area on the rainbow beach side of DIP. i knew it was going to be busy but faaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr out. There was 163,214 4wd’s already set up along the lagoon edge so we went about 1.5km along the beach and found some nice gutters with no other cars in sight. tooks bubs for a swim then had a flick in the gutters, third cast this happened given bubs loves fish, this one was destined for the dinner table. More swims and relaxing and then back to camp. thursday we went for a tour and took in Carlo sandblow, searys creek and most importantly Ed’s beach bakery at rainbow beach who do great pies and the worlds best custard tart. Goodbye $30, hello diabetes/cholesterol... we snuck around to the lagoon on Thursday arvo and on the first cast I landed a 44cm flattie that was released for next time. from there the weather continued to get worse, winds gusting to 40kn and squally showers. So we packed up on Friday morning and headed home. Enjoyed checking out the carnage along the beach on the way back, gazebos in every state of disrepair, tents that seemed a lot flatter than normal and a shower tent half way up a tree. 8F98E80B-3878-4F29-9045-4F44E564500F.mov
  19. Just wanted to chuck a shout out / thank you for @Sneaky1 for taking me out for a trip last week. I had a great time on the water with you despite the less than ideal weather, look forward to catching up again soon for another crack. cheers mate benno
  20. What do you mean they think it is a myth? I’ve done lots of research on various social media sites and I KNOW it’s all a conspiracy and just a rouse to get people to take the vaccine that DEFINITELY will allow the government to track your every move. why does AFO not have the sarcasm font?? in all seriousness though, doesn’t sound ideal at all mate, hope you stay safe over there. I found it very easy to socially distance yourself on a kayak.
  21. Mate, I remember that hinze comp... I think owing to a serious storm situation you ended up bunking in my tent? good to hear from you mate, looks like you are having a ball over there. Enjoying the Texas BBQ scene I hope?
  22. Hi all, Currently up at Bribie for the next few days, managed to sneak out on my yak yesterday arvo after the NE died down and before the SE kicked in. Had about a 4 hours window in the weather but only a 2 hr window in bubs nap cycle, i was hoping to hit somewhere closer to the 2 hr mark to keep everything peachy on the home front. launched off the beach and headed out in light rain hoping to find a mackerel or similar for a tasty BBQ. I made it to the spot and decided to throw a 30g slug around in the hopes of a mac, one hit but no further action. i dropped back to a 20g slug and it was on from the first cast. i managed 5 schoolies much to the disgust of those fishing near me who were not going as well, 1 well under, 2 just on legal and released and 2 better ones at 58cm and 64cm respectively that were accidently bled and then released into the tub in the front of the yak. given i had suceeded in my mission, i took a longer way back to the launch point trolling a variety of lures but no touches. made it back, total time out of home 2hrs and 18 minutes so kept the boss happy as well. didn't get any photos of live or even dead whole fish but here it is ready for the BBQ, just under 1.8kg all up.
  23. nice one mate. it's mayhem when they are one the chew big time. and then there's the boat clean up afterwards...
