Just a quick report from today’s session. Caught a very small bull shark pup to enter into the comp. my brother also caught a nice cod on a big live herring. Nice surprise bi-catch. The shark baits seemed to get a lot more attention while there was some movement in the tide, it all went quite when the tide slowed towards the turn.

Really nice video @christophagus. People fishing Hamish’s shark comp would have learned a lot from that.
Thanks mate

I sussed out a new spot to try out on the pine river a few weeks ago (just behind castle hill/ Murrumba Downs). The stars aligned and I had the chance to get out for a fish a few days ago so I jumped at the chance. (Those with really young kids can relate)
Threw the small shark gear in the car and off I went. Threw out 2 small freshwater eel baits with the hop of nailing a small bull shark or two. I had 2 runs with one hook up. The second run was unlucky as the shark just took a chunk out of my bait and didn’t come back for the rest of it. The small bully I landed was only a pup but I was just happy to fish a new land based spot with success. For those who feel like watching I put together a video of the morning as a bit of a how to guide. Ill probably try to organise a session back here again and open the invitation up to anyone who wants to come along and maybe get you onto your first shark for the monthly comp about to kick off!

Hi Chris
Sounds good. I haven't been having any luck at the local park (which is disastrous). I reckon some eel might help though, because the sharks were biting their heads off on that stuff!
Cheers Hamish
P.S. On average, how many 'runs' become fish for you? I normally find by the time I'm on the jetty, the hook is right down their gob... Only get spat hooks once in a while.
hard to say really. i rarely miss a strike. On most occasions if it runs then disappears, ill check the bait and it normally has teeth marks in it our a chunk taken out of the bait. which happened the other day, ive got a pic of that

i pre-fished a new spot on the pine 2 days ago (land based) produced two runs and one hook up. ill whack a report up soon once i finish editing a video. it was a pretty good spot with lots of space. might be a good location for northsiders to give a shot.

I was warned against getting that sounder for my kayak for the exact reason that the screen plays up a lot. But I ignored the advice and paid the price. Everyone I know who has one of these units runs into this problem. I’ll be selling mine and buying something different soon.

bad forecast for sure. The amount of times ive cancelled for the weather to turn good. As well as going fishing on a good forecast for it to be blowing it ass off and making kayaking impossible

Oh, and I should also mention basic rules.
No fish will be accepted after the time given.
Fish will only be accepted if caught on rod and reel
Anyone can enter this comp, so feel free to spread the word.
The ‘Most Unique Shark Category’ can only be entered in if you catch one type of shark and it’s only you if that makes sense.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers Hamish
yeah mate im in
happy to organise trophies again if people want? i think you might run into strife with measuring them potentially. Anything large caught boat based is very hard to measure.

i dont think this lawsuit will get much traction. he just needs to be a bit smarter in the future with his pranks. He has already come out and said yeah it was a dumb thing to do, lesson learnt so lets just move on from it and throw chickens at boat thief's again. His stuff is funny and i enjoy watching his vids. id imagine that most people would be angry if they were at a local ramp then gets blocked off due to kids sinking stuff at it

i remember on a charter with frenzy a while back, the deckie told me how Paul Worstling from IFish caught F all himself. The deckie was out the back float lining snapper and every time he hooked up, he'd pass the rod to Paul and then start filming. i cant stand that bloke either. Hence why i watch fishing stuff on youtube, much more realistic.

"Leave some for us you grub"
"you are holding it wrong, it's dead now idiot"
"no way is that 70cm"
"no wonder fish are endangered"
etc.
oh absolutely. so often people get hammered for catching their bag.

Just feel the need to vent and i thought here is a good place to do so as many of you will probably understand what i mean. And it may not annoy you like it annoys me haha to each their own
I've noticed over the past few years a few trends amongst fisho's. 1 of them just annoys me and the other i cannot understand
1. Why do so many people have to have such a serious face when posing with a fish? crack a smile! this isn't the old western times where no one smiled. Aren't you happy that you've just caught a fish worthy of a photo? "here's a pic of me with my PB fish (face looks like someone said look as serious/angry as possible)". So many pictures i see on Facebook on local fishing groups have dudes with this dead serious/angry face while holding their fish. i just don't get it...is it a looking tough thing?
2. Why so many grown men throw up a "shaka" sign and scream YEOW! when they catch a fish on video, or just randomly through the video? cant help but laugh every time i see that happen. Even alot of youtubers who have fishing videos do it a lot more often than necessary …"right guys I've got my bait and rigged up my rod and we are ready to go, lets get into it. YEOW!" "just filleted up this fish and about to cook it, lets hope it tastes good. YEOW" Nothing against the shaka sign, but the YEOW is bizarre haha don't know where it came from but it seems like everyone does it now
Maybe its just me, feel free to tell me to shut up haha
Any other fishing related trends you've noticed that you find weird or funny or annoying?

Dynema is the best and when it starts to look a bit used just pull it off and reverse it and good for another 4 or 5 years. Only thing against it is that it should be wound on under tension.
Cheers Ray
great tip, thanks Ray
