I do like taking my two young boys fishing at the Shorncliffe Pier. We haven’t caught anything awesome, but enough to keep them entertained!

Reviving an old thread here but am getting excited as we have just booked to stay at Sea World next Fri & Sat night, which times in nicely for the full moon. Around 6am/6pm low tides, so will hopefully fish at dusk Friday night (worst case go down later and fish the incoming tide), then try a dawn session Saturday morning, then let results dictate the plan Sat arvo/evening and Sunday morning. Going to be a busy weekend ...... 🙂 PB tailor is only 44cm from memory so would LOVE to increase it ......

Thanks Brian. Amazingly i still have my mod powers but it looks like the old troublemakers of the past have moved on or grown up 😄
And yeah, it just fits like a glove and i just casually step straight onto it.

My Northern Bay experience is that I once fished Curtain for an hour with @benno573  about 10 years ago for no luck, so this will be a bit of an explore and (hopefully) conquer mission for me.

DONUT WARNING - do NOT read this if you are easily bored, or are expecting action photos or descriptions of epic piscatorial battles..
Haven’t been out for a fish for a couple of weeks so decided today was the day. With snapper off the target list at present I decided on a lizard hunt, using lures and plastics only. With the wind forecast to get up in the Bay and a lunchtime low tide, I thought I might pick up a couple down at the mouth of the Brisbane River. I started out at Boggy Creek, tossing plastics up onto the sand banks and hopping them back to the boat. Did this for an hour or so then decided to have a troll along the edges with hardbodies. Not a touch, so moved back to a couple of spots that have produced previously. Same deal, no touches. Headed closer to the mouth and fished the channels and banks in front of Nudgee for nothing. Tried trolling along the  wall at the end of the port for zilch and called it a day.
I guess the solunar tables were right - today was a poor day for fishing. Still, the wind was better than predicted so it was a beautiful day to be on the water. Next time I will take back up bait as usual. Interesting that a few boats were fishing in areas where the target species would usually be snapper, but maybe they were targeting cod?  Anyway, we all have a donut from time to time, but it has been a while sine I haven’t had a single touch in 4 hours of fishing. Tight lines everyone.

Took the boat in to the mechanic at Brisbane Marine, he connected the computer to it and found the problems and they can be be fixed without me having to sell a kidney. Two faults found, first one is a faulty alarm speaker hence the reason for not having heard any alarms and the second  one which actually caused the problem was the sensor in the reserve oil bottle in the motor. Bottle was full of oil but the sensor was faulty and so reported that there was low oil hence the reason it went into limp mode.

Ordered the parts and will cost a total of $537 for parts, labour and today's diagnostic check. So a doable repair, will bring the boat back to them next Wednesday as the parts should be in by then.

So at this stage, 1770 is looking good. Better get my gear ready, also need to build myself a burley bucket, do some maintenance work on the trailer and lastly find a spare battery.

I’m leaning towards second hand, but fairly new. Mainly because they have been decked out with Sounders, electric motors etc.
Depending on the boat & size new is an option. (Budget dependant)
Current boat is 60hp tiller, I’m not sold on a specific configuration. I like the idea of getting a steering wheel. But I do like that with a tiller I can steer & control the throttle with one hand. Also that the boat occupants (kids specifically) are easily in my view while driving.

I love my current boat but being an older 4.8m pressed aluminium tinny. Handling a bit of chop isn’t comfortable. I only have 3 days a fortnight that I go fishing. So looking for something a little more capable in the bay. Due to storage and towing constraints still around the 4.5 - 4.8m range.

I reckon go for a centre console. You will have much fishing room in a smaller boat and doesn't get in the way. With the weight further up the boat, the boat should bang less as well.

@aussie123 has an anchor and retrieve setup that would be ideal for your situation.
I'll let him explain it, but it includes a pulley setup that enables you to anchor in the water and pull the boat in at a higher tide.

I also doubt that there would be any damage, and as above provided the engine and transducer are protected, and also that is actually sand and no lumps of rock sitting under it. If the tide goes out smoothly and your not taking a slamming from surf it should be safe,  could be problems if there is surf and the boat gets pounded up and down with each wave  till it settles down and same when the tide comes back in. One thing to watch and allow for is that the next tide will actually be high enough that you will float off otherwise you could be stuck there for weeks.  Why, what are you planning?
