Welcome @Samra.  Fishing hook in the finger? Lol.
Hamish I can't believe you didn't keep the snapper - one of, if not my all time favourite eating fish!  How much fish could you possibly have in the freezer to release it?

Don't want to be rude or anything but you seem to have a lot of cash to spend on fishing for someone of your age.

    hey all
finally got around to using my gift voucher for a Noosa offshore charter. although earlier in the week the weather looked perfect, the wind and rain turned up on Sunday morning. I must have caught 20+ pearlies, a few undersized Maori cod and 10 small reds. came home with 2 legal pearlies which turned into a great feed for the family. all in all it was just good to get out and into some fish!

Headed out with @Old Scaley today to try to make the most of the opportunity the weather gave us to snare a snapper or two.
Steve always out-fishes me, but not today.
First up we gathered some bait then headed to the mark where Steve was quickly onto a large Wobbygong first drop. It won its freedom boatside as we mucked around trying to get it in the net like a couple of old fools. haha
Not long after Steve deployed again, he was on to a good fish that was not keen on playing the game. It took off for the hills, then Steve got some back then off it went again. This pattern continued for awhile but unluckily for Steve it was lost before it could show itself. Definitely a good snapper.
Then it was my turn and a good fight turned into this one -

It went 74cm on the lie detector.

Some time passed and then I was on again. This time a 64cm one. It fought harder than the 74 to start with but calmed down a bit by the time it was in the net.

I pointed out to Steve I was winning the numbers game for a change. He retorted that he was ahead on the weight game...it was a big wobby, so I had to concede.
Steve also sent this pic of my fish to impress Mrs Scaley. haha

A good day out with Steve until we made the decision to leave at the turn of the tide, which was also the turning of the weather. It was a tad wet and cold on the way home, but well worth the effort.

    PS  Thanks again to @Allnighter.

I'm thinking of getting an ebay mincer to grind up / old left over bait / frames to make burley bombs for future sessions

    Nice fish though Brian 👍

What's up guys Rice here, been fishing the Saint Lucia/Toowong stretch of the river pretty frequently and it's been quite productive so far, so I just wanted to share a report about today's 1 hour session
On a 2-4kg Kmart rod and reel combo, I first got onto a decent bream after a quick fight. Quite happy with this one as it was definitely a PB, and probably went for high 30s

Not long after I also landed a catfish of a similar size. No photos, but it went back into the drink as per usual
However, I mostly wanted to ask about this last one that I caught

I caught one a few days ago about twice the size as well. Been asking around and people either tell me it's a baby Jew or a river perch. As a consensus hasn't really been reached, I thought to ask the experts here. What do you guys think?

Maybe you should take up pottery instead, fishing doesn't seem to be your thing. Then again maybe pottery isn't either as you need patience for both.

    Hi Thorbjorn
You 100% are, I do it regularly to come home after getting driven then walking to some of my spots. The only condition is that you need to put all sharp things away (i.e. hooks).
I take a fishing cart and three or four rods with me and I've never had an issue, apart from some funny looks. 😕

What's up guys, so yesterday, I decided to keep a bream for myself just to see what actually killing and preparing your catch was like (I do customer service in a seafood shop).

This one went for about 28cm
I tried my hand at scaling, cleaning, and fileting as well but I did a pretty **** job of it since it was my first time.

So yeah, that night I had the bream with some broccoli and fried rice for dinner, and it was actually surprisingly nice 👍
Anyway, I wanted to know what you guys thought of eating out of the Brisbane River, especially in recent times following the floods. There seems to be conflicting opinions concerning this; some people wouldn't poke a fish with a 6 foot pole, while others are keeping just about every legal fish they catch. I live in the Toowong/West End region which I've heard was a pretty dirty reach of the river but I'm no expert after all. Any comments are appreciated 👍

With work getting a bit quieter now i have been keeping an eye on the weather and today looked the goods to go out to Green Island for a sniff to see if the bay snapper had come again there yet this season to play. 🙂
Well the bad news was the east/ n easterly was a bit stronger than i thought and the eastern side of green was fairly lumpy 🤨
It wasnt dangerous at all but very uncomfortable.
The good news is the snapper have arrived there and i managed to catch my limit of 4 within a couple of hours, the first 3 were quite small, 2 at about 45cm and 1 at 55cm.
Then big papa came along at 71cm. I reckon there were bigger specimens to be caught but i left them for next time and called it early.... was sick of keeping my balance the whole time... gettin old 🙄

Namazu1 reacted to AUS-BNE-FISHO in Keeping undersized fish, what to do about it?
    Hi Rice
Call the Fisheries straight away. You will run into people who keep undersize fish every now and then. Even if they don't know the laws a fine will be the best way to let them know about them. When people take a large amount of undersize fish it generally makes bigger fish more wary/means they have less food.
I have never had much luck at Orleigh Park either. Flatties generally do not start coming up the river until May so it may be best to wait a few more weeks (and with the floods I don't think that will help much either). If you don't have one already I would suggest buying a cast net to catch live bait, but I guess that won't help much if you fish with lures.
    Cheers Hamish

Hi guys just had a bit of a run in with a Middle Eastern/Indian looking couple at Orleigh Park near West End, had a look at their catch and could maybe count around 20 bream inside a little bucket, not bigger than 10cm. I ask them to release their catch if they could but they just told me to piss off, so I ended up calling the fisheries. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been able to do much about it though since the fishers were long gone by the time they arrived (they might have been wary of me as I could see them watching in the distance as I made the phone call).
SO what would you guys do in this case? Any tips? Some might say just call the fisheries instantly but it just feels bad snitching you know so I gave them a chance.
PS I tried fishing West End pontoon in the arvo today trying to catch some flathead, but only caught one undersized bream within 30 minutes, would like to know if anyone had any advice. Cheers!!

Sup guys this is Rice here, just caught my first few fish in the Brisbane River and they were bream. Sadly didn't have a ruler to measure them with but I think the second one was legal, either way I put them back in the water.
PS shout out to the guy who took the first photo for me maybe you are reading this post right now lol
