  1. This creates a minor issue for me. I have been telling the boss that I need to go fishing to try and put some points on the board for northside but only until 16th… now I have to tell her I need two more weeks of fishing time…
  2. Bugger mate. In some good news you don’t have to spend all that time working out a new fishing area?
  3. Def a grassy, the fine blue line around the eye are the give away. Absent on spangles. As I explained at length to a fisheries officer one day who told me my 42cm grassy was a spangled and undersized as grassys don’t grow that big…
  4. That was my dinner actually. Baby benno had her favorite - whiting - courtesy of inappropriate uncle brian. She’s a bit of a fan of a feed of fish.
  5. Hey mate, there’s plenty of hard bodies that claim they will run up to 12kn and more but skirts are a lot more reliable. Heavier hex heads run well and create good bubble trails. I personally would run heavier than 40lb line but that’s just me.
  6. Sorry Hamish, they are anchovies, also locally known as yorkies in parts of CQ. Great bait for many things, excellent dead bait on the reefs too. Frogmouth pilchards don’t grow as big and are much more stout - the anchovies are very skinny.
  7. I would give it a miss mate. Even 15kn will chop up a treat with wind vs tide. I’d be hitting the passage and targeting a feed of whiting and flathead.
  8. Elliott heads was super nice when there earlier in the year
  9. Entering this one in trevally category... surf trevally (dart) 53cm team north
  10. Bream 31.5 team north (note the pointing to blue on brag mat)
  11. I just dream of a boat with that many holders
  12. Did you drool over your grade 9 English teacher that much you forgot to learn spelling? after owning a 5.3m glass half cab for many years, yes, you can do offshore work in boats that size but you definitely have to pick your days as it can quickly become “sporting”. Quintrex hulls generally ride pretty well but aren’t great in a cross-chop. That model looks like a pretty good rig and should get you out and about in anything <10-12kn.
  13. These are a fresh water pest species @Kat, not the same as the delicious barred or spotted grunter (more correctly javelin fish) you get in the salty stuff.
  14. Unlikely to be able to make the 5th sorry bwian.
  15. Yes there is bbqs and many shelters. There’s some right near the playground that are usually very busy but there are several heading north along the foreshore that are less popular and more likely to be available. 28/11 or 4/12 could possibly work for me. 5/11 is Bathurst day so I’ll be in recliner with bourbon in hand.
  16. Likely will not be able to attend but if it’s at shorncliffe I’ll wave across the bay to whoever does attend. @Kat - a small bit of peeled green prawn works just as well as worms and is 1/100th of the price...
  17. Sign me up for north side. Proposed dates work perfectly for me.
  18. As if you ever caught that many...
  19. Hi all, @ellicat @Sparksie and @Old Scaley and I headed up to rainbow beach for a charter (that unfortunately didn’t go ahead) and found ourselves with some spare time so we jumped in the cars and headed up the beach in search of a likely looking gutter. Found a couple but weed was a big problem and the best gutters were all unfishable. I saw a spot with clean water and a slightly steeper drop off with some rips which was the next best option. I chose to throw a plastic around and after about 10 minutes of casting my plastic got crunched and I was losing line fast. My 2-4kg stick with 10lb leader was starting to seem a bit light on! i chased the fish up and down the beach with a couple of cars stopping to see what what going on... nothing like an audience... I managed to get the fish up into the shore break and a few minutes later got the right wave and @Old Scaley was kind enough to run down and grab the fish by the tail. Quickly bled and destined for entree back at our accom. Cracking fight in the surf and super tasty to boot. also had the army come past to say hello which was pretty awesome 4C950D8F-140E-4AF4-8C9A-397B5392EFB0.MOV
  20. The right call by the skipper to pull the pin. all forecasts said 10-12kn N, woke up for the 430am departure only to have it blowing about a solid 25kn SE... logical part of brain knows it was the right call... every other part said many naughty words. thanks to @ellicat for the day out, not the one we had in mind but a good catch up and a few feeds to boot. @kmcrosby78 - need feeds for 2.5 these days mate, especially if whiting is involved!
