queensland brisbane river session #278-#282.
Old Scaley replied to AUS-BNE-FISHO's topic in Saltwater
No one can say you aren’t giving it a red hot crack, Hamish. Good luck at Yeppoon. -
I wouldn’t be changing plans @fatboyYou might pick up some bycatch for the comp, but hard to beat barred grunter for a feed. What size do you get around there?
-
No risk at all. Just give it a really good flush when you get home. I have been on trips where the motor went for a few weeks without flushing and had no dramas. Lots of working boats have outboards that live in the water without regular flushing and last for thousands of hours. Having said that, I flush mine after every use if at all possible. Enjoy Turkey Beach and don’t forget the crab pots.

The most surprising part of that report is that you took a day off! Hope you get a jack up the coast.

queensland brisbane river session #261-#272
Old Scaley replied to AUS-BNE-FISHO's topic in Saltwater
Good to see you getting all the donuts out of the way before the Suburbs of Origin kicks off. . We need to team up in January for a no bait session targeting jacks on that rock wall. Might be another donut but would be fun. -
how best to handle multiple weights and types of lines.
Old Scaley replied to LucasV's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
Most good tackle shops will put your new line onto the spool if you buy the line from them. They do a better job than I can and it only takes as long as it takes to search the bargain bin or decide I do need a few more plastics or another lure or two. -
Had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t 1st April!

In for the mighty Southside. Not sure about the averaging business but happy to go with the consensus.

Old Scaley replied to AUS-BNE-FISHO's topic in Saltwater
Wow. Monster fishing effort, Hamish, and a monster report to boot! Hope the summer holidays are good to you. -

Mate just called me to say he bought a Stradic FL 4000 online from BCF for $69. I told him I saw that on FB but thought it was a scam. Nothing on the official BCF site so he is now busily contacting the bank. Beware!

I feel your pain @Bretto77 There are 10 of the mongrels that roost in a tree out the front of my house and maraud through the garden, trashing everything that is not fenced off and digging holes in the turf. I spend most of spring each year moving wire and other barriers around to stop them starting a nest in the yard. It is a full time job. Between them and the possums, I have pretty much given up trying to keep a nice garden. Legally, you can’t harass them or trap them. I suspect even if you did relocate one it would be replaced by another one in no time. Good luck!

rod suggestions for an ultra light set up
Old Scaley replied to Obsidian_Dreams's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
Sad to hear about your Nordic Stage. I have 3 of them and they are nice rods. Never had a sharpshooter though. I also have a couple of Samaki Zing Extreme Gen 2 rods that I love using. The 1 to 3kg model might be worth a look for your purposes. Very reasonable prices too. -
braid to mono knots in the thick of things
Old Scaley replied to szlartibartfast's topic in Tackle, Rods and Reels
I sometimes do FG knots at home but always do Albright on the boat. Very rarely have I had a knot failure and when I do it was likely a mistake in the tiring process. If the leader is 25lb or less, I like to add a half hitch on Rivendell of the knot for extra reassurance. -
Thanks for sharing and congrats on your first Barra. That first night fever is a killer and highly contagious.

Manual inflatables. Standard 33g cylinders.

Aldi has a boating and fishing sale next Saturday (4 Nov). If you need a new life jacket, I can recommend the $49.99 jackets they are advertising. I bought one a couple of years ago and the quality is just as good as my Burkes.

new south wales marlin charter recommendations?
Old Scaley replied to GenetricUser's topic in Saltwater
+1 for Lucky Strike. Very experienced skipper. -
Am I the only stupid old b@st@Rd that finds the PE thing confusing? Every time it comes up I go away and read up on it and end up needing a Bex and a good lie down. Fishing is a simple sport - why do we have to make it seem so technical? Oh, and good luck with your new gear @mzaakir I hope it all works well for you.

That looks like a cranking battery. I need a deep cycle.

Anyone used Giant batteries? This is a good price https://www.aussiebatteries.com.au/batteries/deep-cycle-agm/140ahx-12v-agm-deep-cycle-battery-australia
