Even if you don’t catch another fish over the holidays, Hamish, you have had a fantastic break! Great Jew! I have noticed the prawn trawlers working around the city reaches lately so the must be fish throughout the system at the moment. -

Pretty sure there is/was a plan by the State Government in Qld to bring Coast Guard and VMR under one umbrella and add some funding so that you would be covered everywhere in the state no matter which one you signed up with. Not sure if that is still happening or how far off it would be. @Thorbjorn Hale, I would highly recommend doing a marine radio course. Lots of great info that might save your life one day. VMR run courses at Manly and Raby Bay.

Great read, Hamish. You are a bit hard on yourself - I would rate a bag out on snapper from the Brisbane River more than 70%. You hVe comes long way in a few short years.

Nice work, @Leeroy. Depending how hot you like it, try adding 1 or 2 teaspoons of dried chilli to a cup of cornflower with similar amount of salt and ground pepper. Do the squid in rings and drop them into egg wash followed by the flour mix. Cook them quickly in hot vegetable oil (no more than 15 seconds) then serve with whatever you like, or nothing.

Go the Qld teams! 4 out of 4! I was expecting Magic Round to be Tragic Round for my tipping, but if I hadn’t changed my tip from Souths to Storm at the last minute, it truly would have been magic for me. It won’t last, so I want to enjoy it while it does.

Sure was a nice day on the water. Catching fish was a bonus in those conditions, although we were due after a couple of really quiet sessions. So glad that we only had the one shark and that it took the bait (whole grinner) rather than a hooked fish. Let’s hope that session is a taste of the upcoming snapper season. Thanks for the day out, Brian. Lots of laughs and a few fish to boot!

I think I read somewhere at the time that he did get it treated by a taxidermist and mounted for his wall? Maybe that was a different fish? Interesting to scroll through the comments on the Facebook page. Reminds me why I avoid posting or reacting to anything on FB.

Great report @lachrdr. If you are catching grinders on the paravane, try running it a bit deeper or closer to the boat. Those longtail would have been a nice surprise.
