  1. Some brutes in those catches @Dinodadog. And excellent chewing. I’m sure he could spare some for his dear old dad.

^^ Same for me @Drop Bear. Being loyal is more important than winning a tipping comp. the Broncos will start to get some easier matches, the Cowboys will hit some form sometime, and the law of averages says the Titans have to have a win soon.
  3. Thanks Ron. That was interesting. Glad they decided to leave the boat passage there.

This game was a bit like some of the other games this weekend. Hard to get anything out of them because the conditions were so poor. Hard to win a game without halves and both teams looked pretty ordinary. Storm and Rabbits were definitely the standout teams this weekend.

  8. Oh, and if you get tired of looking for puppies, you might find some pippies.
  9. Hi MSB, you will love Straddie. We go there a couple of times a year. Sometimes I take the fishing gear if it is only me and Mrs Scaley but mostly I just enjoy the great walks around the headland and having a quiet swim at Cylinder beach. When I was in my teens and early twenties I used to surf and fish at Pt Lookout. I am way too old to negotiate those rocks now but there are smaller and easier points at Frenchman’s and Deadman’s beaches. It is a bit of a hike to get down to so travel light and go early morning or late arvo to beat the heat. Beautiful beaches to walk along if the fishing is quiet. If you have a fourby and a beach driving permit you will find gutters all along the Eastern beach. If you are on foot you will probably have to walk a long way to the first gutter. Cylinder Beach looks promising but I have never caught a fish there. Great place for a swim. There are some nice easy spots on the beach between Amity and Flinders. You can park at the beach jump off track and walk to nice calm water with lots of dolphins and other critters to entertain you while you fish. Bait and tackle are hard to find at Point Lookout, but there is Tweed Bait at the Foodworks. There is an excellent bait and tackle shop at Dunwich where you can get live worms, yabbies and other fresh bait as well as some good advice and chat (as long as the guy that owns it hasn’t sold in the last 6 months). The shop is hard to miss. It is on the right side of the road as you are heading out of Dunwich towards Point Lookout. You can pump yabbies at either Dunwich or Amity and get puppies along Main Beach. I hope this helps. Have a great trip.
  10. They are delicious. Just remember the minimum size is 38cm.
  11. I remember finding that rock bar (and not in a good way) in my old boat that didn’t have a sounder on my first exploration of Tingalpa Creek. Took my revenge by fluking a nice little jack on bream gear off said rock bar. Used to be some interesting craft moored on that creek as well. Congrats on the jewie and thanks for sharing.
  12. I still have 3 Snyder Glas surf rods with Alveys (1 heavy and 2 light surf rods that I bought for my boys when they were young). I still love surf fishing with Alveys and rinsing the sand out of them in the surf. Also have a Wilson Heritage 8 foot rod that I bought when I was feeling nostalgic for the old school rods a few years ago. I thought I would keep it for blackfish or bream fishing with bait but don’t do much of of this sort of fishing. It certainly feels weird after using the modern rods.
  13. I think I saw $15 for adults Robbie.
  14. It was a bit scary. Sounds like the govt has got no chance of beating the corruption and dodgy practices in the seafood import industry. Very sad.
  15. What an experience. Couple of questions (getting in ahead of the crowd). Are the fish in the second photo in @aussie123 report hardy heads? And, how good did those smoked mangrove jack taste @Bi_polar? They look incredible.
  16. Ok, then fluid view it is. Which is pretty appropriate really
  17. Mostly forum activity and unread content. Not sure if this table, grid or fluid??
  18. I like reading that people are going fishing and then I am always hanging out for the report. @Luvit is really good at building that anticipation. I love seeing pictures of different places like the creeks and rocky headlands and wondering where they are and why I haven’t been there. I like information about different techniques and styles of fishing. I have learnt so much from people on this site over the past 10 years. i enjoy reading donut reports and what went wrong just a little more than I enjoy writing them. I like the comraderie and the friendly banter and happy that we don’t see the “one upmanship” that you see on some sites. Just keep them coming people because life is just a bit more boring when the site goes quiet.
  19. I am out as well. Sister arriving from Hong Kong so have a few family things to attend.
  20. Thanks for the offer @benno573. As soon as dates are locked in I will see if I can make it.
  21. Not disagreeing with you Gary. Obviously what should have happened years ago was to not allow uncooked prawns from areas that had the virus. But that horse has well and truly bolted and it is a case of too little too late. A better example might have been asbestos because I don't think anyone ever pretended that agent orange was safe for kiddies. If you ever get the chance to go to the war museum in Saigon, take plenty of tissues. I have never been so ashamed to be an Australian even though I know we didn't drop that stuff we were part of it all. What happened to those poor people was criminal and inhumane and achieved absolutely nothing except hardship. Anyway, I guess my long winded point was that we need to trust the scientists and hope they can work constructively with the pollies to protect what is an important industry for Queensland. Stay safe up there mate. Debbie might be a big one.
  22. A few things to think about. Firstly, white spot may have been out in the wild population for years but there has been no real monitoring. Secondly, the main currents off the east coast run north to south so that may help protect the wild populations north of the current control area. Thirdly, anyone who has been eating imported prawns has already been eating infected prawns so I think we can trust the government view on the risks to humans. It also has no impact on fish that eat infected prawns. Seems like the biggest issue is the impact on farmed prawns and the viability of those operations if the virus can't be minimised. The close proximity of huge numbers of prawns in the ponds mean that they will struggle to contain the virus in those systems.
