Butcher's Prick?
It is a very old saying for those fish.
As slippery as a butchers prick

Hi there I am looking to sell an early 90's Mercury Red Band 75HP 2 Stroke long shaft motor, with forward controls, power tilt/trim, in fair condition for it's age. I am not sure how much to ask, any thoughts? Thankx in advance
You originally said this was an early 80's engine so which is it as the price will vary greatly between an 80's and 90's engine.

It's a bit far up and too shallow for me to help you with any marks Robbie.
That's fern country up there so find that and you will find Nannygai in good numbers and they are a shallower water fish well suited to fish for in your tinny.
I would definitely take the crab pots as well.
I also have a few hundred Barra lures here if you need to borrow any.

Thanks for another great trip Mark.
The fishing was very tough this trip but we kept working them hard and chipped away at them till we found a patch of fish that were very hungry and managed to finish our bag off in the 2 days.
I really expected to do the 3 days to get our fish this trip but that late arvo bite on the second day was pretty special and got us over the line with a bit of an early mark as well.

I cannot see how it would be any different to the Jayco caravan that you had and as already mentioned, the water issue is a major problem unless you had a proper fitting waterproof cover.
-
Generally water will not worry them if wet from the key side so you need to grab a multi meter and check the voltages on the back of the isolator switch to see if it has been damaged with water.
First check the terminal that is connected to the battery and if you have full power to the switch, turn it on and check the other terminal to see if power is getting through the isolator.
If you have power on both lugs of the isolator when turned on, you need to check any buss bar connections, circuit breakers and fuses on the main power feed cables.
Also look for any burnt wiring that may have shorted from the water.

Still being vertical at the end of the year would be pretty special but If I can catch half the amount as i did this year, that would be great.
I think this year I am keen to go and catch a few Snakeheads in Lake Temenggor.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.
Be safe and catch heaps.

Holding bottom while travelling is still not as good as I would like it to be but maybe it is the boat hull that is making it hard. I know the general rule of thumb is to run a straight edge along the bottom of the hull and have that line dissect the transducer, then kick it up a notch. Using that system I lose bottom readings at 10 knots. Dropping it deeper is better and I still have a reasonable picture up to 18 knots which is probably ok, but I have seen better on other boats.
Tilting the transducer up will make it lose bottom at low speeds.
Set the transducer with the spirit level like you did and then push the rear of the transducer down 1 click.
I would also set it as deep as it will go and then slowly lift it up until just before you start losing the image.

We got them off 1770/Yeppoon area.
They are all sizes and we just get them on bottom bashing rigs chasing reef fish.
Some days out there they can be a nuisance on the bottom, especially when they nip off our rigs.

If you ever catch a decent mac down deep, say bottom bashing they are usualy a stuffed fish, eating whatever they can.. ie small coral and reef fish. hence building up cigatera.
A pro fisho gave me the heads up on that and said looking closely at them they look ragged. You can tell there not healthy.
The more active fish that eat fusileers and bait species dont build up the coral poison, ciga as much. It is an accumulation of poison over time.
up north i fish pretty shallow < 20 mtrs. and nowhere near the reef. i still let anything over 20 go. Even then i reckon you may roll the dice eating between 15-20kg fish. But no issues so far.
There was a Hamish and Andy true story episode where some guys caught a big 20 - 30 kg job off south west rocks. They gave it out to a few people and they all met up in hospital that night.
So its not restricted to right up north as they travel, To be on the safe side 15kg and below i reckon your safe so long as its not a deep water caught fish. like u got it on the bottom while fishing for reds.
Clear as mud?
I totally disagree with your theory of Spanish that are caught on the bottom being ragged looking and ciga carriers.
We constantly catch Spanish on the bottom between 100m and 150m deep and they are beautiful conditioned fish and have never seen or heard an incidence of ciga from them.

I am not sure what it is @kmcrosby78 but it does resemble some type of Jobfish

That will be a sad day when she sells Brad.
Don't forget to copy to sd card and then delete the gps marks before you let it go.

Sounds great.
There is a new release in October at www.boatnrod.com.au for crab pot timers. Check it out.
These are illegal in QLD and probably most other states so i hope you are going to warn your customers to check their states legislation before they purchase these.

Leccy reel will do that too. Only need one hand to turn knobs and push buttons but I'd feel a bit sorry for the poor old Bass, lol

Families can have the same name on their taps and pots Dino but they must be on the boat to take them in and set them.
They must also live at the same address as written on the trap.
If you already have your 4 traps set, technically you cannot take another 4 in and set them, they must do that themselves.

I don't really agree with you @benno573 on your Bass limits, Bass are bred and released by the millions so I think that a bag of 5 is good.
Stocked impoundments are based on a put and take system and the old limit of 2 Bass was ridiculous, especially when you see some lakes so full of small Bass due to the lack of food.
I do agree on the new crab limits as open slather of Sandies was just insane and 7 muddies if still enough for a feed. The boat limit on muddies is not good though, especially when camping with a group of mates you can have 7 each but when you hop into the boat to go back to the ramp, you can only have 14 muddies in the boat.
The new trap tagging rules are good too. Now the tags need to be labeled for the fisherman and not the owner of the traps. This should stop people using large numbers of traps as every person can now only have 4 traps in the water with their name and address on them and that person only must pull them.
I also think a fishing licence should be bought in as long as the funds are quarantined to fisheries related usage only and not going into general revenues for the government of the day to waste on what ever.
I do not agree with these new boat limits as they penalize groups of people fishing together and I do not agree with charter boats not having boat limits because at the end of the day, they are only rec fishos too.

Wanted Storm Wee Wart Lure
in Classifieds

I'd hate to guess how many Wee Warts and Wiggle Warts I bought and lost back in the early 80's.
They were an awesome lure in their day.
