One week before l head to WA for the big Kimberley trip. It has been a busy time taking over the Gobblers business, doing some orders, flying to Melbourne for work and getting gear ready to pack. In the process of doing this l had my worst hook in the finger moment and I wasn’t even fishing. I had a hand full of lures and while trying to pick up my jig bag full of heavy jigs. It slipped and one of the lures got caught in it and then as it dropped the hooks pulled into the finger.

Lucky they were small hooks. Kids cut it off for me and it pulled out easy.
We have extended our 10% off sale till the end of month if anyone wants any. Use the code MYS19 at checkout. www.gobblers.com.au
I want my wife to be busy making them while I’m off enjoying myself. 😂

I have a 4.2m Quintrex Renegade and recently self installed a Minn Kota Riptide I Pilot with spot lock.
It was under 2K complete with a 120ah battery.
I have never used the anchor since.
The advantages of using it when fishing or even exploring are mind blowing , lash out and spend the extra coin.....
Actually i would go as far to say that it would be more important to me, if i was on a budget, to spend the coin on an Ipilot,
instead of spending more on a flash tinny and a flash motor
It's like i've been born again... and i"m an atheist lol
gives me a boner every time i go out and deploy the electric ......

About 15 years ago i used to fish the bay islands regularly with my sons and one close mate, but then some life changes got in the way and my close mate unfortunately passed away 😢
Back then i was a regular to Ausfish and met some great blokes, and had some great fishing adventures.
I sold the 5.2m Formosa 10 years ago or so, but have recently rekindled my passion for the bay again and have bought a 4.2m Renegade with the desire to fish the bay again with my two sons 😊
Well, the glorious bay is still there all these years later and i am thoroughly enjoying re-living the good old days!
What a beautiful place we have right at our back door!
Luckily i kept some gps marks from all those years ago which are still producing some great fish.
These are from just 5-6m of water.

I am heading to Moreton on Friday back Sunday. It will mostly be a social trip that I go on each year with a bunch of South African Australians.
Lots of Beers and laughs. I am the camp cook for our little group so packing the camp oven for a bit of fun.
I hope to get into a few Tailor at high tide in the holes and perhaps get some whiting in the gutters at low tide.
    Wish me luck.
Report to come about this time next week.

An interesting piece from Ern Grant -

    Grant's Guide to Fishes
    1 hr ·  GRANT'S FISHY TAILS - #214 - DISGRUNTLED ANGLERS
In the 1870s (Yes, I said EIGHTEEN-seventies) an authoritative book came out: Fishing in Moreton Bay. It set out a situation beyond argument: angling in Moreton Bay (Sth Qld.) was buggerupfinish.
    Reason? – those “tinkers-dam netfishermen”.
Hold hard a minute. Their nets were tarred cotton; bulky, inefficient, and targeted mainly on Mullet. How do I know of these shortcomings? In around 1940 I used a tarred net – to the well-expressed disgust of fellow-anglers.
But the book gave me a couple of specks of gold. Reproving his fellow-anglers, the author tells us: "Your Bream average just under a pound (500g), and your Whiting run five-to-the-pound." (about 100g each!)
Well, wonders will never quit ceasing. That comes awful close to our catches, made after 145 years!
Anglers have always needed to find excuses for poor catches.
When the French were exploding atomic bombs at Muraroa Atoll, way out in the Pacific, my desk was protesting under the weight of bottles of seawater, to be tested by the Gummint Analyst for radio-activity that fouled-up fishing. Radioactivity? - not a chance.
In the southern Bay and the Broadwater - a favoured resort for the well-off - anglers' success rates were so poor that, annually, fiery protests and complaints came to my Minister and myself. And these people, too, blamed netfishermen. So in the 1960s, my Senior Biologist tried placating them by cancelling ALL net-fishing in the whole of the region.
Did catches improve? - not a chance. And about the only adverse influence? - rampaging speedboats.
Its cure is ever-present: practice, practice, practice. How the devil do you think I've been able to write and illustrate a book of 880 pages on fish unless I'd caught most of them for myself? - Go thou and do likewise.

I have been out before with Tom the bass whistler and his dad and yesterday was no exeption . It is a great joy to see how much Tom enjoys life despite his difficulties.
The redclaw were very good in some of our pots and probably also were good for the sharefarmer who had raided a few of the pots.
Fishwise I thought we were in for a donut with not a scale till around 10.30 when we found some really good sized fish about 2/3 or the way to the far marker in around 30 feet of water.
Tom had a real blast with his first fish being 50cm and tagged to boot. He had problems with a lot of the fish that he caught as he was not strong enough so Jason supported the rod whilst he played it.
We finished up with 56 bass and a ute load of redclaw. ( Jason did not have anything to put them in so we just tipped them in the tray of his hilux.
I am looking forward to next trip with Tom in the next school holidays in September.
    Cheers
    Ray

After some negotiation with the owner of Gobblers Lures, my wife and I have purchased the small business.
We will be taking it over in early July and manufacturing from home. (Just in time for me to make a few lures for the Kimberly trip coming up in end of July). 🙂
It will take a few months to find our feet and then hopefully we can start making some small changes to improve the Gobbler experience.
Predominantly my Julie will be manufacturing the lures while I be doing marketing, development etc.
I'm sure there will a special for AFO members when we are sorted.😉
This is why I have been quite on the forum for a little while.

I’m just sharing a step by step instructional video I created on the basics of bream fishing. I think many will find this helpful. In this instance, we are using live scrub worms to catch bream. We guide you through tackle and gear selection, rig setup, bait presentation then me and my kids catch a few bream on the Maribyrnong river. It’s a great video for beginners, or those looking for a few tips or those looking to take their kids fishing, especially during the school holidays.

This same guide can be used for all different types of fish species such as trout, redfin, carp, bream, mullet, bass, perch, whiting and much more. It’s very simple and very effective all you need is a rod, reel, line, ball sinker, swivel, and hook and your all set.

Make sure you sub the channel if you enjoy the video
