Mate had similar issues due to the computer being fried - shop couldn’t replicate or diagnose it. Replaced the computer and it fixed the problem. He got a reconditioned computer for $300 they were asking for $1500 for a new one

Could it be a fuel issue Brian?
  3. Let’s agree to disagree and move on fellas.
  4. I guess if you haven’t got it you don’t miss it but if you have it you use it and don’t know what it’s like without it
  5. In theory, without the second gps locator /heading sensor you can swing the boat 360 degrees and the electric can stay in the same gps position. But not with the two talking to each other as they keep the angle/heading between the two the same. in practice I think that with the heading sensor the motor adjusts its position sooner and with less movement therefore you maintain your orientation better. is this worth $400? Up to you Steve
  6. Might need @GregOug to draw a picture of what I mean
  7. One thing I have read that it does is hold your orientation on spot lock position in windy/strong current conditions. That being the gps in your electric is a single point so you can be oriented any way but if you have the second gps position it knows where the electric is and tries to keep the line between the two constant. Having never had an electric before this I don’t know if this has improved my spotlock beyond yours Steve but my spotlock is unreel
  8. Most likely targeting tailor at this time of year. Mullet on the ocean beach is pretty much done by August (peak season is June, July). Both mullet and tailor are classed as sustainable; are monitored for sustainability (since 1999) have recent stock assessments and strict regulations including the same size limit as recreational fishers (30cm sea mullet, 35cm for tailor). The commercial fishers have restrictions on the length, drop and mesh size of their nets too, as well as total allowable catches for their region. Plus they have vessel monitoring on each of their vessels and have to pre-report their catch to a registered landing location. So very tightly managed compared to rec fishers. Whether you agree or not commercial fishing plays an important role in our society; it employs and supports local communities and provides fish to people that cannot catch it themselves. FYI. I am a fisheries scientist and also a keen rec angler that mainly fishes in SEQld. Happy to answer any questions you may have regarding commercial fishing and sustainability. DM me if you like! 9. +1 Steve is a legend and so is Glen from Stones Corner Marine
  10. i wired the heading sensor direct to the front (electric) 130ah agm battery. It recommended a 1amp fuse but i didnt bother. i have an inline 60amp circuit breaker to the electric which i break when charging the battery. i just use a supercheap 12v/16amp charger after a days fishing. charging doesnt seem to affect the heading sensor and it is not "on" (i.e. blue light not flashing) when the electric isnt on (but it still has power to it). my electric battery is separated from my house battery (loop charged by my pull start 25) which runs my sounder, bilge, nav and anchor lights. i'm no sparky but so far this seems to be working for me. 13 ft tinny with ~40kg of batteries!
  11. Maybe have a look at the big US forums. They have area specific reports they might mention a lodge or two. I don’t think I can link you to one but the forum I’m thinking of rhymes with muddywrecks
  12. Go into your local tackle store, put the reel on a few and see what feels nice
  13. I’ll save you some $$ Brian Circuit breaker my eBay special works a treat ill save you another $127.50: just rock in to your local and pick it up! Minn Kota if $$ is an issue you could save another $500 on AGM over lithium I looked and a comparable LiFe battery was only 30% lighter. Given you are only using the one battery you should consider this
  14. It’s a power in numbers thing Hweebe. There’s way more sub 70cm female flatties in the breeding population so their egg production far outweighs the 70cm+. The paper also suggests that of the 75cm+ fish captured at the pin during the study, ~half had parasitic infections or atretic ovaries (ie not working). Some would argue that this doesn’t matter as half do not have parasitic infections and do have working ovaries but that’s just my opinion. I have a few problems with this study. The author has openly called for the upper size limit for flathead in Qld to be removed; he was/is also a reviewer and editor of the journal this was published in; and the sampling was focussed on one area of the flathead population using line fishing methods only. For an accurate investigation you would need to sample the population over the entire Qld coast over many years by methods independent of the recreational fishery. So overall in my opinion this is an interesting study on flathead at the Pin whose results cannot be applied over the greater Qld area. Slot limits may be used to protect certain parts of fish population (ie big Barra) biologically but may also be a reflection of fisher behaviour (eg fishers considering big flathead too precious to keep/kill). I think in this case the slot limit does both, but maybe reflects existing/changing attitudes around keeping big fish.
  15. Why the lithium for Ellicatch? A well maintained set of AGMs will do the job for many years (that’s what everyone used before lithium) and are much cheaper. I would go max power on the electric and max battery size in Gel/AGM so you never have to worry about running out of spotlocking power. The more powerful electric will use less power to keep you on the spot in current and drain your batteries slower
  16. Rain hail or shine at my house Brian that’s why I have so many kids
  17. Lift assist is just a spring on the shaft that works in a mechanical way. All newer models have them it just lessens the weight of the propellor end when you are stowing and deploying. brian you will be able to do the install and wiring. I’m hopeless and I managed to do it on my boat. No problems yet touch wood! But I’ve been touching wood more than I’ve been fishing so maybe that’s why the electric hasn’t caused any problems?
  18. If this is not the most wholesome thread on this whole damn site I dunno what is! (Hamish’s posts have definitely gone downhill with all the swearing and nudity!). well done Brian and Darren! You guys are the reason for my wet dreams!
  19. Classic post Brian! If I were to do something similar my report would be a heck of a lot shorter. Something like: “I asked the Mrs if I could take the boat out Thursday for a crack at a 70cm Bay Snapper. She said no. Quest over!” good luck offshore mate
  20. Mate sent me some pics of his boy blooding his rod on a tiny bream and a nice whiting from the beach. I’m more stoked with the tiny bream cos if the rod is sensitive enough to hook that look out half decent fish!
  21. 20lb mono and a 1/0 baitholder off the rocks 20lb braid 30lb leader and jigheads 1/2 to 3/4oz offshore
