  2. Mate that is seriously impressive! Well done you are fully committed. Gee we take our coastline for granted - so many opportunities that we don’t have to go to such lengths to catch a fish. You’re techniques would clean up here!
  3. Not the best name for people to feel comfortable giving you their spots. Also out are “Sharefarmer” “Potraider” and “Fishkilla”.
  4. Well done Kat! That’s a brown sweetlip Plectorhincus gibbosus. Also known as (one of many) mother in law fish. The story goes they are not the best eating so you give them to your mother in law https://fishesofaustralia.net.au/home/species/455
  5. Wow @Ed. Is the medical issue your wife’s toe implanted somewhere sensitive? Ie from a big boot up the backside for buying such a sexy reel?
  6. Mate it’s only a recent change (2019) and primarily from fishing pressure - people harvesting them constantly as well as in existing no take zones depleting stocks. Just shows what humans are capable of
  7. I also have the app. If you zoom in and select the creek above the lake it says no fishing
  8. https://www.publications.qld.gov.au/dataset/recreational-boating-and-fishing here’s a link to the rec fishing guide
  9. https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/business-priorities/fisheries/recreational/recreational-fishing-rules/closed-seasons-waters/waters-tidal updated September 2020. The lake is a Fisheries Closure as well as a MBMP green zone. They are two separate things that both prohibit fishing. The creek upstream from the lake does not appear to be a green zone but is closed to fishing under the Fisheries Act. You can fish downstream of the lake in Coombabah Creek. I would always trust the website/most recent rec fishing guide over the app.
  10. You can go look at them but not take them home from Moreton Bay
  11. Downstream of the lake is ok. Just watch out for the closed waters as per Fisheries Qld website
  12. Have you got your boat back yet Greg? Curious to see how the upgrades went
  13. Missing At Sea is a good Aussie company but I don’t think any of their rods are made in Australia. Edit: Just looked at their site and they don’t stock rods anymore... If you are thinking going custom try giving Peter Flor from Florless Rods a call. He’s down near Jacobs Well and a good bloke to boot
  14. And the spangleds taste good from the Cape? Have had some awful ones from the southern GBR
  15. No mate I struggle to throw a 6ft cast net in my back yard let alone from my tinny in between a marauding pack of boats. Wild caught medium mooloolaba kings at my bbq!
  16. Went down to my favourite river in Logan this morning with my mate who is a baker. He is also a bait fisho so was sceptical when I said we would be fishing with lures only. Well the sparrows hadn’t even digested their dinner when he arrived and we scooted off on a glassy calm river out to the mouth for a look. There were one or two boats hassling the prawns as the sun was rising so we let them be and cast 13 000 times for multiple snags, one hit and a big fat donut! there was bait and the odd fish on the sounder but the only action we saw was above the surface with 40+ boats collecting their Australia Day prawns for the bbq. Must’ve been a few around cos even my trusty prawn imitation was getting no love. needless to say my baker mate is now a convert to lure fishing
  17. Mate if your solution involves keeping the Lowrance then go for it. I’ve thought about upgrading my sounder to one with sidescan but I think I’d put my money towards a minn Kota with spot lock before I upgraded. I reckon you should be able to get close to $1k for your lowrance package. Similar stuff is around that mark from my quick look
  18. Great success @benno573!! extra points for sure
  19. You’ve got me stumped Brian!
  20. I reckon keeping the Lowrance as the sounder and navigating by a big screen portable tablet with your choice of app is the way to go @GregOug just spend some money on a good RAM mount for the tablet.
  21. Thanks Greg just let me know when it goes up for sale
  22. @GregOug how old is the HDS7 and how much do you want for it? I could probably find it a home At the very least I would like a chance of rehoming the transducer
  23. Good review bro. I’m looking to replace a 13 year old a Shimano Seido 2500 with an FL Stradic.
  24. Identifying juvenile mullet is really difficult. In Qld, only two species are regulated (ie have a size limit). They are sea mullet and diamond scale mullet, and the size limit is 30cm. https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fish-identification-information/fish-species-guide/fish-species-id-info/profile?fish-id=sea-mullet-freshwater-and-tidal https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fish-identification-information/fish-species-guide/fish-species-id-info/profile?fish-id=diamondscale-mullet this looks like a flicker mullet to me - Paramugil georgii. They do not have a minimum size but do have an in possession limit of 20. https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Valamugil-georgii.html they make excellent live bait and the bigger ones are quite tasty. for those who have Grants Guide to Fishes, the mullet section has great pictures to help with ID
