  1. do whatever you are most confident doing i reel my light finesse stuff left handed and my offshore stuff right handed! i inherited a 6 wt fly rod from my father in law and it is a left hand wind so that is how i use it - i could never cast a fly rod left handed! i love the feeling of this combination and that is what i am most comfortable with after a few years. interestingly i kick the footy right foot but my drop kicks and torps are much better with my left foot
  2. G'day Watty! I prefer to wear shoes as i have very soft and sensitive feet, would i be able to join your club? Thanks in advance Andrew
  3. It’s a new month tomoro Nog! I reckon the Terez is a bit stiff for slow jigging if that helps
  4. Abu is called the Revo saltwater I think. How much line do you need? Have a look at the quantum smoke inshore reels too As a guide, the heavier the weight of the reel the bigger it is and the more line it will take. Look for reels that say the are for saltwater use too. They tend to quote heavier breaking strain lines on bigger models too. In my opinion you cant go wrong with Shimano And their 10 year warranty.
  5. 3.85m sea jay nomad or similar the problem is, I’ve already upgraded many of these rods already! It’s just way too easy to hang onto them as “spares”...
  6. Hi guys and gals, i am upgrading some gear and offloading some stuff that doesnt get used enough so I have some rods and a reel for sale, all will be advertised elsewhere in the coming days. Thought i'd let AFOers in first! Prices are fair and firm but i am willing to knock a bit off if anyone wants to buy more than 1. Pickup from Tarragindi (unless your name is Brian) Rods Shimano Terez TZC66HPW - 6'6 40-80lb overhead white - old series original metallic silver binding. Good used condition, there are some stains under the epoxy on bindings (See pic) due to dissimilar metals (which is why the later models had black binding) but hasnt affected performance $100 Gary Howard Interceptor overhead 5'2 8kg (similar to the Game On 8kg model) - was 5'6 but i had the tip cut down by a rod maker to fit in my mates cabin. Lightly used, excellent condition Sold Andrew
  7. Robbie you would be surprised what a smaller, good quality setup will pull. The most important thing to remember if you are planning on using it as your main rig for 5 days is to keep the weight comfortable so you actually want to hang onto it all day and not put it down for a lighter setup. Those Talica 12s have 18kg of drag which is enough to pull a horse backwards and in truth i've never even go to sunset on my Tyrnos reels with 15kg of drag even on big sharks. Before you buy something, put an existing reel on a heavy rod, set your drag to 9kg (measure using a set of pull down scales) and see how hard it is for someone to pull line off it while you are holding it. Then think about how hard it would be to pull line off by doubling it! I think Tugger uses Talicas, he might be able to do this test with you. Put a quality 80lb braid on it, 100lb leader of at least 10m of mono and balance it to a good quality rod (you dont have to spend $500 - $150-$300 is heaps) and you will have a set up that will handle almost everything and you will use lots more than a big, heavy gamefishing reel on a broomstick.
  8. I saw a couple of The old Style white 40-100 lb ones For $150 at Everton park BCF about a month ago. Might be worth ringing around To see whose got One
  9. Drop bear mate there’s not much that tyrnos 20 with 70lb braid won’t stop. Just need a decent rod to put it on. The old series Terez rods can take a beating are relatively cheap if you can find one. The 40-100lb 6’6 OH is a weapon. I’ve got the 40-80lb and it has stopped reds, big cobes And has enough tip to land tuskies and rte too. Welcome to come have a look if you want Mate.
  10. all the best Robbie you will be back in no time
  11. G'day Hamish, I would say the small-eyed gudgeons are uncommon (rather than rare). There are many better options for crab bait in my opinion, let the gudgeons go! Thanks for your reports, keep up the great work
  12. Gday Drop Bear, i think Luvit posted a picture of a map of the Bay with some generic marks in one of his many HB posts - might be worth a search on here. Enjoy!
  13. Don’t get grease all over her handbag Brian!
  14. Congrats Brian she looks even better in the flesh!
  15. That is a quality filleting table shot! Great going guys I bet they will taste as good as it was catching them
  16. I'm not starting anything mate - all my posts are to inform. My job is to ID fish and teach people (including rec fishers) about fish ID. I have provided information from fisheries website to assist. Happy to chat about it, you have my mobile number
  17. Not grey, cos greys dont have spots, and not school, cos schoolies dont have stripes. The question is, would you feel confident with your ID when boating patrol were about to look in your esky?
  18. They look like small Spanish to me. Grey macks are known as broad barred mackerel as the gap between the bars is greater than Spanish (aka narrow barred mackerel). Grey macks have different proportioned heads and dorsal/anal fins. MLS 60cm bag 5. Schoolies Have large, indistinct spots larger than their eye but do not have any stripes at all, ever. MLS 50cm bag 10. Spotties have lots of small spots smaller than the eye - mls 60cm bag 5. Minimum legal size is 75cm for Spanish with a bag of 3 and new boat limit of 6 Here is some info from Fisheries Qld webpage. https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fish-identification-information/fish-species-guide/fish-species-id-info/profile?fish-id=spanish-mackerel
  19. Sinker moulds gone, thanks Brian!
